The second her name was on the paper Bilbo was already dragging her out the door, contract in one hand and the other one clasped tightly around her wrist, both of them running down the hills, avoiding the paths that would surely lead them away from their destination, crossing people's small gardens and farms, being entirely rude.
When they were almost at the exit of the shire, someone called out "Here, Baggins, where are you off to?" Bella dared peer over her shoulder momentarily before turning back ahead, thanking whatever Deitie was looking after her for not having faceplanted on the ground. "Can't stop, We're already late!" Bilbo shouted in return, the arm that was holding the contract waving hysterically.
"Late for what?" the same person called out once more, "We're going on an adventure!" Bilbo replied enthusiastically. Bella wondered what on Earth had happened after she blacked out the previous night, she only remembered getting angry at the honey-haired dwarf for holding one of her drawings before she was awoken by her brother.
"Bilbo I'm going to fall if you don't let me go!" Bella hissed at her brother, knowing fully well that she would indeed fall if he continued to drag her while he ran as if he were chasing a fugitive goat. Bilbo ignore her, knowing his sister was sure to say things to have him let go of her so she could walk back to the house, something he wasn't going to risk her doing.
"You always draw things that are important." Bilbo told her, making a hard right to avoid running into a boulder, "And you drew us with those dwarves and Gandalf." Bella trapped her lip between her teeth as she processed her brother's words.
There was no lie in them, all her drawing and paintings had been of important events in the history of Middle Earth and she did indeed draw the two of them with the company, but she had also drawn the dragon, something that made her uneasy. "Mother wouldn't approve of us going on this adventure." she countered.
Bilbo rolled his eyes at her words, a breathy scoff leaving his lips, truth be told he was amused that she had brought their dear mother into the conversation, using her as a ploy to divert him from his objective, something that in any other case would've worked, any other case that wasn't this.
"Mother would want us to live." Bilbo retaliated, "We're going to die." his younger sister crooned, gripping her backpack with her free hand and feeling as if she were about to lose feeling in the hand that her brother was holding. "We're not going to die. We're going on an adventure." he corrected, hearing her scoff in return.
Bella wasn't always like this, much like her brother she always dreamed of running away from home and going on adventures, but she knew that she could not, she knew that she had to grow and learn how to be a housewife for her future husband, she knew that she had to find a husband and marry and thus those childish dreams and hopes were shut off in a deep corner of her mind.
It was her duty to marry and continue her husband's family line and although she did not agree that women were born to marry and breed children, she knew that she could not change her future, she knew that she was destined for that. However, her talent for drawing great and important events had all but scared men away, fearing that she was a loony, thus staggering her process of fulfilling her duty as a woman.
Bilbo, much like his sister, had shut down the dreams and hopes of exploring Middle Earth after their parents death, fearing that Bella was not strong enough to survive on her own, and he was right, she had been quite young when they passed, at least in Hobbit years, and in a way that's what prevented him from seeking a wife to continue the Baggins family name, his sister needing him.
Of course that over the years Bella proved to him that she was more than capable of taking care of herself and that she was ready to marry, Bilbo didn't see her as a capable and strong woman, he still saw her as a young Hobbitess aged 21, when their father passed, and 29 when their mother passed, with big wide blue eyes that were filled with tears as she was told the news of their deaths.
