5 - Date Night

You people!

You people!

Guess what?

My baby, Tunde showed up at my place today, not just one ordinary show-up o, he came with a fancy rose flower with wine. I still couldn't believe my man flew from Lagos to here in Abuja just so we could go on a date. Such a romantic fine man.

Iya Yeside went to her shop, she had people who wanted bespoke orders for their clothes. Fiyin, Jola, and Okiki weren't home either, just the perfect private time I needed. I wouldn't want to have all of them here while Tunde came.

"How about we go on a date?" I suggested whilst grinning from ear to ear with both my hands wrapped around his neck. Tunde held my waist and shook his head vehemently. "What? It's been a while since we spent time together, I miss us."

To be honest, it has really been a while since I felt the connection we both had for each other, and suggesting a date night wasn't a bad decision. Hear me out... I love Tunde but I think he has been drifting away from our relationship lately, like him frequently asking for the money we were both saving for London don't get me wrong, our plan dey kampe but it has always been about money and I want more for this relationship. I love him.

He chuckled lightly and held me closer to his chest. "You this woman, you wan dey toast me."

"Before no," I wrapped my hands around the back of his neck and looked at him passionately. "I want more for us, Tunde."

"We are here."

"So... our date, let's say by seven?"

"Sure, baby."

Seven pm came by so fast, after so much scolding and lecturing Iya Yeside gave me about dating Tunde, I paid no mind to her words. They can all go to hell for all I care sha, I have no time to waste, and having a date with Tunde was all I had in mind.

The restaurant I chose wasn't that much of the fancy five-star restaurants my friends and I usually went to whenever we needed a place to chill and laugh off our problems at. Just so you people know, I am not the one paying o. Anyway, I had booked a table at one restaurant like that, it wasn't that much of a "big deal" restaurant, just a budget for food under  10k.

I waved toward Tunde who walked down to our table with a bouquet in his hand. My lips curved into a delightful smile as soon as he handed them to me.

"Oh, Tunde, you shouldn't have," I tapped his arm lightly as I chuckled.

"Anything for my woman."

"Go jor!"

We settled in both our seats, a waiter approached us with a notepad and a pen in his hands. "Good evening, ma'am and Sir, we are delighted to have you at the Haven restaurant, is there anything you would both like to order?"

"Thanks, I will have your special noodles with prawns and fried egg in them, please," I announced with my face glued on the menu, suddenly I felt Tunde place his hand on mine.

"Baby, not this food. I read it makes one fat," he whispered to me.

"It's just food, babes." I felt embarrassed. Why did he have to do this in front of a waiter?

Tunde has never ceased to remind me of how health-crazed he was about food. Always go on and on about eating healthy and doing that mostly in public.

"I will have jollof rice," Tunde said to the waiter.

"And I will be having my special noodles," I uttered as I maintained a smile at the waiter. The waiter nodded as he jotted our orders down.

"Any drinks?"

"Just water will do for me both of us," Tunde responded before I was able to talk.

Hian!

"Tunde... I am the one paying, we have a lot to eat here."

"Yeside stop exaggerating, it's not that serious. We are both having water."

"Okay, water will do," I said finally surrendering to Tunde's suggestion as I didn't want to cause a scene in front of the waiter who headed away from us to get our orders. I kuku get mouth but that wouldn't be tonight, tonight was all about us.

"I am glad we finally get to spend time tonight," Tunde uttered with a joyful look on his face as if he didn't imply I was fat in front of a waiter. "Let's talk about our plans for London—"

"Baby, it has always been about London, let's talk about something different this time," I replied as I cut him off.

"We always have to plan ahead, honey."

"Not on our date."

He sighed and rubbed his temple lightly, I could sense that was a sign of frustration. It was a habit Tunde did often whenever he was clueless or frustrated.

"Okay, how is work?"

"Hard. I have a boss who can't stand her employees. Any news about your new investment?"

I forgot to mention, Tunde was an investor. Always putting money in all kinds of businesses, especially tech and all that. I remembered vividly how he was desperate to start up a tech company and he mentioned investing in it first, Tunde told me he had someone he knew who would put him through investing for the preparations, unfortunately, he fell for a ponzi scheme. All his hard-earned money including the money I lent him was gone. I believe in him because we all know how everyone works hard in a hell-hole country.

"Well... there's this new business I'm looking into. A poultry business."

"Not bad, how is that going?"

"I need to gather more money, I sabi one guy like that wey fit to do the business."

"Is the person trustworthy?"

"You don't trust me to find anyone trustworthy for the business?" He switched to yoruba.

"I do, I don't want it like last time na. You won't fail in this one."

Minutes after our little awkward chit-chat, the waiter brought our food and water to the table. At this point, I lost my appetite. We ate our food in quietness, throwing each other short glances whilst we ate.

"What?" I asked him with a small smile as I noticed him staring at me.

"Nothing, I'm just happy you chose water."

Great! We are still about the food I eat.

"Are you enjoying yours?" I asked, feigning a smile. Tonight wasn't the time to pay attention to what food I ate so I had to change the topic.

"Yes, sweetheart. Maybe you could order some salad I read it was—"

Fuck it! Dazzit!

"Tunde," I reached my hand to hold him tightly and looked straight into his eyes as I grinned at him but he wouldn't budge. He rambled on and on about how he doesn't want me to be fat. "Enough, we are here for a good time."

"Are you going to finish all that—"

"Jesus fucking christ, Tunde!" I yelled aloud enough to catch everyone's attention. I didn't know what to say to him so I grabbed my purse and left.

To hell with him at this point!
