Interview 45

Where are you from?

India

How old are you?

22

What and who inspired you into reading and/or writing?

My life, and introvertedness.

What was the first book that you read that started your love for reading?

Nancy drew in middle school, leading to Dan Brown in high school.

What was the turning point in your life that you decided to take your writing seriously?

That phase, where I locked myself in my house, due to depression, and unconsciously and unintentionally started seeking happiness in my thoughts, leading to writing anything that came to my mind.

What is the inspiration for your stories?

My life and the people I am surrounded by

Do you outline your stories or write whatever comes to mind?

I write whatever comes to my mind. It feels like 'me being me' because I lowkey afraid of losing myself if I try to meet other people's expectations.

What is your method of beginning to writing a book?

If some idea comes up in my head, I try to think about it, and add a little touch here and there if my own imagination. And when I am writing, I don't try to judge my thoughts. I usually write what comes to my mind, and the scenes I have day-dreamed about.

Do you ever get attached to the characters in your story? If so, what part of their personality or quirks do you find relatable?

Yes, I do get attached to the characters in my story, to an extent, that I don't feel like to end the book.

I usually find strong female characters very relatable.

Do you base your characters on people in your personal life, imagination, or both?

Both

What is the best part of writing a story?

That stage, when you have daydreamed about that scene for so long, and the novel has reached that scene now, and you just let your fingers dance with your thoughts and feelings. That feeling is an other-worldly feeling.

How do you deal with writer's block?

I go through that too sometimes, but I try not to stress myself out. I would usually watch a movie during that time, and unconsciously learn from the scenes, or sit alone in my room meditating. This helps me quite a lot. Other times, I would just do usual things and not think too much about the story, and I think after some time, I am again filled with ideas, and they are usually brainstorming me. I think, during that period we should all do something which would make us feel happy, like baking a cake or working on something creative, or anything that we like.

Would you want to see your story or stories be adapted? If so, who would you want to play your characters?

I haven't felt like that for my other books, but the one which I am currently writing feels like it should be adapted.

I have this amazing strong female character, which I designed with some of my traits. I would love to play her.

What kind of advice would you give to an aspiring writer?

I don't think we should ever judge what comes to our mind. Just put it out there, and if it feels good, then go for it. The key is to feel unique and feeling yourself in the process of writing.

Writing should be like a sacred space, where you let the fingers dance with your mind, while sipping on some matcha latte, and feeling calm and aesthetic.

Are you working on a new story?

Yes, I am.
