The Truth

"EVELYN..." A VOICE whispered. "Evelyn..."

Evelyn slowly opened her eyes and came face to face with familiar green ones. She instantly recoiled, then realizing she was in his treehouse. "What do you want?" she hissed.

Pan looked hurt but didn't push her. Suddenly, words came out in a rush. "I want to explain. The shadow told me you would be my downfall. It told me of a prophecy and told me to rid of you and I couldn't. You've done so much for me and the boys and I couldn't bring myself to rid of you. So I made you think I didn't care about you. I looked for a spell to end the shadow and I found it! The boys and I killed the shadow."

Evelyn looked skeptically. She shook her head. "How you I know you're telling the truth?"

Pan turned from her and then looked to the door. "Alex!"

The little red-headed boy entered the room and he ran over to Evelyn, wrapping his small arms around her neck. Evelyn smiled lightly and hugged him back. Alex pulled back and looked at her with excitement. "It's true mommy! The shadow's gone!"

"But if the shadow is gone—" Evelyn started.

"That means I'm no longer tied to the island. I know," Pan finished.
