Dead silence. That's it. Nothing but dead silence. Oh, and me sobbing on the floor.

"Josie, baby, what happened? Why are you so upset?" Stephanie asked.

"I'll tell you what happened! My girlfriend cheated on me!" I screamed, storming away.

"EXCUSE ME?" Brandon said. Stephanie grabbed his arm to try to hold him back, but Brandon was mad.

"Who hurt my little sister and why?" Anthony questioned. I rolled my eyes and said, "Amethyst. My I guess now ex-girlfriend. She cheated on me with...I don't even know who."

"Oh my God. Someone, go out and get Josie some ice cream. She needs it." Andrew said. Betsy raised her hand and ran out of the theater.

"Guys, I just got a text from my friend Harper from school. Do you mind if she comes over?" I asked. Stephanie said, "Sure, baby. Is Harper nice? We haven't met her yet."

"She's kinda annoying, but yeah, she's nice." I said. "She'll be here in five minutes."

I sunk to my knees and started crying again. "Why? Why me?" I whispered to no one in particular.

"I don't know, baby. But you don't deserve this, especially when you're supposed to be celebrating your birthday." Stephanie said. "Heartbreak sucks, but let me tell you this. The pain doesn't last forever."

"Are you sure?" I asked. Stephanie kissed my head and said, "I'm sure, baby. I love you."

"I love you too, Mama."

And that's when Harper Cambridge walked in the room.

With Amethyst right behind her.

"Harper, what is she doing here?" I asked. Amethyst gasped and said, "I can explain."

"This the cheater?" Christian asked. I nodded and Brandon and Andrew stormed towards her. Stephanie grabbed Brandon's arm and held him back and Tracie grabbed Andrew's.

"There's nothing to explain. You hurt my daughter." Stephanie said.

"Wow, someone's standing up to Amethyst. That's never happened." Harper said.

"Shut up, Cambridge. You wanted in on this." Amethyst said.

"What are you talking about?" Harper asked. "I never agreed to hurt Josie."

"EXCUSE ME? WHAT?" Brandon asked, getting in Amethyst's face. "What did you do to Josie?"

"I simply asked Harper to be my girlfriend." Amethyst said.

Amethyst cheated on me with Harper. Why was I getting so upset by this? It's not like Harper was my best friend or anything, we were just simply friends from school and theatre, even if Harper had a massive crush on me and sometimes got on my nerves.

I know why. Cause I had been in love with Amethyst since the day we met and now she broke my heart.

I didn't even notice Stephanie break away from the group and get in Amethyst's face until she loudly cleared her throat.

"Did you cheat on my daughter?" Stephanie asked.

"Well-" Amethyst responded.

"Did you cheat on my daughter?" Stephanie asked one more time, a lot more sternly this time.

"She cheated first."

"No she didn't."

"She deserved it anyway. With her made-up gender and crap."

This got Stephanie mad. "EXCUSE ME?" she snapped.

"Genderqueer isn't a thing?" Amethyst asked.

"Yes it is. I'm done with you. Get away from me and get away from Josie. She's too good for you." Stephanie said.

And suddenly, Amethyst got quiet. My family and I all blinked and looked to each other. The silence could either be good or very, very bad.

And then Amethyst left.

"Thank God." Stephanie said. I squealed and jumped in Stephanie's arms. "Mama, you did it!"

"Josie, you seriously should've dumped her anyways. You don't deserve a transphobic crap like her." Betsy said.

"To be fair, I didn't know she was transphobic, a liar, or a cheater until today." I said, leaning into Brandon and slightly crying. Brandon kissed my head and said, "Come on, Jo-Jo. Let's go home."

About two weeks later, I had been hanging out with Harper a lot more than I would've normally. And in those two weeks, I found that Harper was a lot less annoying than I thought she was.

I was playing Jenga with Harper and Andrew when Stephanie walked up to us.

"Oh, hello, Harper. How are you too."

"I'm good, how are you?" Harper responded before Andrew shushed her. "Harper, I'm trying to concentrate." Andrew slowly pulled a block out and then the tower came tumbling down right on my lap.

"Haha, Uncle Andy, you lose!" I said. Andrew pouted and then I looked at Harper, realizing that she was actually kinda cute. Scratch that, really cute.

Brandon tapped me on the shoulder and said, "You've been staring at your little friend Harper there for a while. Something you wanna tell me?"

"I may or may not have a slight crush on her." I said.

"Ask her out! It looks like she's into you. Your moms gonna flip, but it can't hurt to try!" Brandon said.

"It's pretty obvious Harper's into me. She literally once gave me a necklace at rehearsal." I said.

I could see Harper blush and when I did, I fell more in love with her and dramatically sighed.

"OOOH SOMEONE'S IN LOVE!" Betsy said. "Who with? Who with? Who with?"

"Shut up!" I said. I whispered in Betsy's ear "She's in this room and you're staring right at her."

"You like..."

"Harper. Yeah."

"What about me?" Harper said softly.

"Tell her. You got this." Brandon said.

"Um...Harper...I like you. Like-like you." I said. Harper bit her lip (which made me blush a little) and said, "I like-like you too...if that wasn't obvious enough by the way I've acted around you these past few months."

"Will you date me?" I blurted out.

My entire family stared at Harper in anticipation.

"Are you kidding me? Josephine Block, of course!" Harper said, throwing her arms around me and giggling.

And then came the ecstatic cheering from my family.

And then came my first kiss. Harper quickly kissed me and I gasped.

"WHY IS IT SO LOUD IN HERE?" Stephanie asked, coming back in.

"JOSIE'S NO LONGER SINGLE!" Christian cheered.

"AND SHE GOT HER FIRST KISS!" Brandon squealed.

"I'm sorry, what was that last part?" Stephanie said. Harper giggled a bit and said, "Sorry, ma'am."

"It's okay, Harper. Just be good to Josie for me, okay?"

"I will." Harper said, giggling and skipping over to take my hand.

This was truly the greatest day of my entire life.
