Chapter 2
Trina. Katie. Kat. Kay. Sometimes, just simply Katrina. I never knew her long enough to ask what nickname she preferred, so I used a lot of them.
Katrina Harford, my sister who I've never met, died yesterday. And I'm not even sure where she lived. I'm not even sure where she's buried. Or if she's buried yet.
I'm walking around a random cemetery, hoping that, by some luck, I'll find Katrina's grave here. It's about five or six blocks away from where that Stephanie lady found me, and I'm hoping she didn't follow me here.
After about twenty minutes, I gave up, and sat down with my back against a tree.
"Josie, there you are!" I heard someone say.
Samantha? Did Samantha change her mind or something? Deep down in my heart, I was praying that she did. But part of me knew that in Samantha's mind, college is more important than her own niece.
But I turned around, and it was certainly not Samantha heading towards me. It was that Stephanie lady that now knew my entire life story for some odd reason.
And played a character sharing the same name as my dead sister.
"Josie, I was looking all over for you! Why did you run away like that?" Stephanie asked, kneeling down next to me. It then seemed to click in her brain what I was doing as she looked around at the collection of headstones.
"Looking for your sister?" Stephanie asked. I nodded. "I've never met her. We were separated when I was one. She was four. Once I was old enough to know, I made it my life's goal to find her again. Guess that's out the window. Also, I'm sorry for running away like that."
"Hey, it's okay. Also, I want you to meet the people I work with. They're all really nice." Stephanie said. I nodded and we stood up, both brushing the dirt off of our clothes.
_________
Stephanie and I walked into a theater. There were about 6 other people in there. 5 adults, and a kid that looked a little older than me. I suddenly felt a little socially awkward.
"Everyone, this is Josie! Josie, say a little bit about yourself. For everyone else's sake, and mine." Stephanie said. I sighed, I did not expect this to turn into a get-to-know-me interview.
"Uh...hi. My name is Josephine Harford, call me Josie, I'm 9 years old, I play cello, I dance hip hop, and I had a sister who recently passed away." I said. Shoot. Why did I mention Katrina?
Stephanie nodded and motioned towards the rest of the group.
"Josie, this is Andrew, Christian, Brandon, Betsy, Tracie, and Anthony." Stephanie said. I shyly waved and then another girl who looked to be in her early teens came up. "And this is Andrew's daughter, Lily!"
Lily smiled at me and said, "Another one." I smiled at her and sat down next to her. Lily nudged my shoulder and said, "I might be getting a little sister. That's cool."
I nodded to Lily, she actually seemed to be a pretty nice girl. Though it hurt a little to see Lily wedging her way into my life as a sister, considering I lost the sister I've never met before in my life.
I saw Stephanie whisper something into Andrew's ear as Lily and I were talking about our lives. Andrew came up to us and sat in between Lily and I.
"So. Josie." Andrew said, drumming his fingers on his leg. "You seem cool. Where do you go to school?"
I sighed and said, "A public school where I got bullied relentlessly and had zero friends and sat alone at lunch constantly and was the geeky girl in string ensemble."
I heard Stephanie gasp from behind me and I internally rolled my eyes. I did not appreciate her eavesdropping on my private conversation.
"Well, um, maybe you can change schools?" Andrew asked. He turned towards Lily and said, "Go hang out with Anthony or someone for a bit, I need to talk to Josie."
Lily did as she was told and disappeared out of sight. Once Andrew was sure Lily wasn't listening, he said, "So, what happened at your old school?"
"They call me names. Like the basic ones. 'Loser,' 'idiot,' 'stupid,' you get what I mean. They tease me about being a cello player, well, they tease the entire string ensemble, but they target me the most. No one wants to be my friend." I said.
"I'll be your friend!" Anthony piped up from the corner.
"Anthony, this is a private conversation." Andrew said.
"Well, let me talk to Stephanie, because she's the one planning on taking you in for a while from what I've heard, but we can switch your school? Also, I heard there's a little strings camp this weekend somewhere, we could let you do that while we do shows. Maybe it'll be fun and you can make some friends." Andrew said.
I nodded. "I'd like that."
Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought.
AN: The crossovers have begun. Lily is @ConfusedShifterMars OC from their Adopted by Falsettos, and Josie will appear in that book as well! Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
