Third person's POV
"Anu, you okay?" Came her sweet voice, like always.
"No, I'm not, why did you leave me, why Mishka why?" his voice held an unknown fear. Fear of losing someone precisely 'her' - Mishka.
"Anu, I'm sorry, I never wanted to leave you but--"
Suddenly a man came and held her waist, "Situations were like that Anurag, you got her love, but you both weren't made for a 'Forever', she was mine from always, forget her. Find someone else, or wait - maybe you aren't made for anyone," the man laughed evilly and took Mishka with him, far away from Anurag's eyes . . .
He woke up suddenly with sweat beads forming on his forehead. Heavily breathing – panting slightly - was his usual state at mostly every night. He poured some water in a glass, and gulped it in one go and glanced at the clock. There was still time, like always. 3 am.
Sighing, he stood up from his king-sized bed. The son of a millionaire - Anurag Basu. People usually anticipated, "His life is all about fun and love!" But alas, their assumptions were all wrong!
He didn't have a 'perfect' life, like the usual 'billionaires' in books have. He had luxuries - but misusing them wasn't his work. He stood in his balcony and gazed at the moon - as it shined. That serene peace; as he gazed at the moon made him feel content.
"I'm still stuck at you, Mish. I wished I should have never given all my love to you; how easy my life would have been then. No worries, easy move on, a better life. This life feels like a cage, I'm caged with those memories of you and me! I want to get rid of them."
"The worst feeling in the world is... when you can’t love anyone else... because your heart still belongs to the one who broke it."
He found it too relatable - if not this much love for Mishka, he could have found any other girl till now. But he can't, just can't! As simple as that, complicated when looked into.
He groaned in frustration - how much he hated himself for loving Mishka.
Shutting his eyes tightly, he went back in those old memories.
"Anurag, you know I feel that I am the happiest girl in this whole world, you know why?" Mishka chirped in happiness.
Anurag nodded negatively, timidly, and gestured to her to continue.
"Because I have you!" she giggled and continued, "Every girl is jealous of me, 'cause they don't have you. You love me so much! I wish to settle down with you, just you and me and our world. I'm so excited!!"
Seeing her laugh and all happy, Anurag hugged her tightly, close to his heart.
She never had any idea - that her one smile can make his whole day better.
She was an addiction to me - good or bad, time already told.
"I love you, Mish, never leave me please," Anurag said in his husky voice, which made Mishka's heart flutter in joy.
"How ironic na, Mish? You planned for a 'Forever' and then you only left me," Anurag chuckled darkly, yet again.
He tried his best not to go back to that dreadful day, but his mind, every night, took him to show him this bitter reality.
Her words stung his heart, how easily she just left him and their promise of 'Forever' as if nothing ever happened!
He gulped his saliva and remembered that day...
"Anurag, Anurag where are you?" Mishka came running to his room, not finding him at his usual place - his study room.
"Chill baba, I'm here only, shifting some books to the study room. You want to talk?"
She was scared, how will she tell him - that she is leaving him forever. His smile was making her lose - her confidence, but she was determined. She had to end this.
As Anurag settled the books from his hands to the bed, Mishka prepared herself.
He came to her and asked, "Say, Mish."
That smile lingering on his lips - was distracting her.
She composed herself and finally started, "Anurag, we need to end this. Don't react - first listen to me properly. I don't know if you love me or not, but I don't love you, I don't. That dream of having a 'Forever' with you, that was all my childish dreams. I realized today something - I don't love you, I doubt if I ever loved you. I had always loved Vikrant - but he was busy with someone else - so I chose you.
I doubt if I ever liked anything about you - I'm sorry but you and I don't belong to each other. We can't have any 'Forever', just forget those moments we spend together. Not saying you deserve someone better - but I deserve someone better – and that’s Vikrant. Bye."
She finally ended and looked into Anurag's eyes - which were red now. Tears were brimming down his cheeks continuously.
"How could you Mish? Oh sorry - How could you Mishka? I gave all my love to you and you-"
"Simple as that, Anurag, love can't be forced."
"Yeah right, you are right - just get out of my life - years of togetherness - those fun-loving moments - everything, you are leaving everything as nothing happened. Just- move before I do something to you," he shouted; Mishka flinched in horror and ran out of the room. Seeing no tears in her eyes made Anurag cry more.
And from that day he became a mess! He had a completely messed up life, which nobody wants.
A few days later, Anurag came to know a big amount of money from his bank account was withdrawn by Mishka. The day before she left him forever. And that's when he came to know - it was all fake. Mishka never loved him or was with him for his love - this togetherness for years was just for money.
Anurag hated himself to love her.
It was like,
"I hate you, I love you, I hate that I love you."
One hour passed soon thinking of that day, he got ready in his jogging suit after freshening up. It was now four in the early morning, shades of red, orange, and yellow were about to grace the sky with their presence.
"Vikrant, don't leave me please, I'll die without you- Please don't do this to me, I love you Vikrant!" Prerna begged in front of that man who didn't care about her feelings anymore.
She cried many times in front of him - but he - just continued walking out of the room and her life.
She regretted falling in love with him. She sniffed in disappointment and reminisced those moments with him.
Those happy moments with him are now only memories, he won't come back and she won't let him come back.
She has moved on but she tries to find someone like Vikrant.
"I may pretend, I'm strong and stuff but whenever this monthly nightmare comes, I can't control myself from crying. How much love I gave you Vikrant, then also you chose that Mishka.
If you loved her, then why did you come to me saying - I Love You Prerna - when one day you had to say it was all fake - forget it. What fun you had making me cry every single freaking month!!" she screamed in her topmost voice.
Before she could realize it, sleep embraced her as she sat on her balcony.
Her anxiety attacks were daily every night for a month, whenever she thought of her past, then they became monthly. Vikrant had no idea how much Prerna loved him. She was mad for him! She had to change her place because of her anxiety attacks. There was no night when her mother didn't wake up for her, this hurted her.
Her mother's health was already deteriorating badly and in addition to her problems were oddly affecting her. So, moving away from her felt a good idea to her.
And here she is! In Mussoorie, far away from everyone - just her and her loneliness.
Still after remembering those days, spent with Vikrant makes her cry miserably. If only Vikrant could value her love, she would have been the happiest - but life doesn't work like that. Happiness and sadness both work side by side.
Vikrant came inside her home, very silently, like it was a normal day, he hugged Prerna - for the last time and took her to her flower garden on her terrace.
That was Prerna's favourite place in the whole house, and years later, the place she hates the most.
"Yes say Vikrant," Prerna chirped in happiness. She wished Vikrant would marry her soon.
"Prerna, I don't love you--"
As soon as the words escaped from Vikrant's mouth, Prerna looked at him - all shattered.
"This is a joke, right? You're making a fool of me, right?" she asked; voice cracking.
He didn't dare to look into her eyes because of her intense and heart-breaking gaze.
"It's not a joke, I love Mishka - she's my life. I don't want to waste mine and your time by a long para. Goodbye."
Saying so, he was about to leave the place; when Prerna held his hand and begged in front of him, "Vikrant, don't leave me please, I'll die without you- Please don't do this to me, I love you Vikrant!"
"It's all over Prerna, forget me and move on. You’ve got a life, I have one too, maybe we are not meant for Forever, so just forget that we ever met."
Prerna woke up as she felt the land under her, cold. She walked slowly towards her bed table, opened a drawer, and took out a box.
"You took everything away Vikrant, but I saved this, cause this is the only thing I have from you. This bracelet will always be special to me."
"You want her, you need her
And I'll never be her."
Sid walked inside Anurag's room and found him all ready for the office.
"Again at 3 am?" he asked; Anurag looked up at him, shocked.
"How do you know?"
"I'm your best friend, Anu. I know you very well. Let’s leave this stuff, and go for some fresh air, how about Mussoorie?"
"But why?"
"Idiot, I hate repeating my words but saying again last time. For some refreshment and move on."
"Move on? Sid yaar, I can't do that!"
"So you would choose to be stuck in your past? C'mon you moron!! For how long will this continue? I'm not listening to anything, pack your bags, we are leaving tomorrow. I have already informed Moloy uncle and Nivi. Yes, that idiot--"
Before he could complete it, Anupam gave a tight smack on his head.
"Ow, what was that for-"
"For calling me an idiot, yes Anu I'm also coming!!"
Anurag left a heavy sigh and there went a big debate.
