EIGHTEEN: Out In The Open
Cooper showed Jake the room beside his and Jake was putting his stuff away. Cooper had to talk to his uncle. He pulled Sebastian aside.
"Please don't make any jokes. Jake has no idea that I told you guys about the uh...you know. His parents aren't cool. He is a football star..."
Sebastian nodded. "Got it. No jokes. I will let your mom know too. I would never hurt you like that, Cooper." Sebastian stopped and smiled. "Football, hot!" He winked. "Quarterback?"
Cooper smiled and couldn't help it. "Yes."
"Hot!"
Cooper laughed. "I know!" They both laughed.
Cooper was grateful for his uncle. His dad would never have been cool. He would have disowned him. He was glad that his mom was cool like his uncle. He still hadn't talk to her.
"So you really like him, huh?" Sebastian knew that.
Cooper smiled. "Yes! But shut up. We are friends and I don't want to ruin that."
"Does he feel the same way?" Sebastian had to ask.
Cooper shrugged. "I don't know. We kissed and never talked about it. He kissed me first though and I don't know what to do. I haven't thought of anything else since. It's awful! It's not like I can ask, you know! Jake isn't used to talking about stuff."
He had no idea how to approach it. He was going to ask at school but Jake never acted different so he let it go.
"Maybe we should address it. Get it out in the open?"
Cooper shrugged. "I don't know. His family, they don't talk about feelings, ever. They are nothing like this family."
Sebastian smiled. "It's cool. I got this. I'm famous and can get away with things normal people can't. Let's go talk." He pulled Cooper to the living room and called for Jake.
Jake walked down the stairs. "Uh, what did I do? Am I in trouble?"
Sebastian smiled. "No. No trouble." He sat in a chair and tried a less threatening position. "Sit."
"Okay?" Jake sat by Cooper.
Cooper was nervous. "Maybe I shouldn't..." He watched his uncle. "My uncle is a jerk."
"I am. I have some questions before Ivy finds us! Guy talk. Just know that things said in my house, stay here. I won't tell a soul. I know how to keep a secret. You have my word." He smiled and looked at Cooper.
"He is good with secrets." Cooper smiled at his vampire uncle.
"Okay?" Jake was nervous now.
Sebastian cleared his throat. He was trying for delicate. "I never judge. I am having sex with Ivy. A lot." He smiled at Jake's expression. "Okay. Where is this going with you two?"
Jake froze. "What?"
Cooper sighed and looked down. "I told them about the kiss! I'm so sorry, Jake. I had to talk to someone! My mom is cool and Uncle Sebastian is...cool."
"I am." He smiled bigger. "I'm also nosy. I know about the kiss. More than that one time?"
"I hate you!" Cooper turned red.
Sebastian sighed. "I don't mean anything by it, Jake. Cooper didn't either. We were all having a weird night. I had sex with Ivy and you two kissed. I wanted to know where it was going. I just hate secrets like that and they aren't fair to you."
Jake looked down. "I'm not sure what to do and I don't have anyone to talk to. I'm expected to be a certain way. I'm not. I don't fit in the mold that my parents made for me." He covered his face and sighed. He never said that out loud.
"I don't judge anyone and I have no preconceived ideas about you, Jake, and I love Cooper no matter what. If you make him happy then I would be happy." Sebastian watched Cooper.
Cooper nodded. "Hey, it's fine." He told Jake then turned to his uncle. "His parents aren't very accepting."
"At all." Jake uncovered his face.
Cooper sighed. "We are friends and I'm good with that. Really. Jake. Can we talk...alone?" He looked at Sebastian.
"I'm going. I want to know all of the details!" He winked at the boys. He waited for Jake to look at him. "It's safe here, Jake."
"Out!" Cooper yelled. Sebastian chuckled and walked out of the living room. Jake shook his head. Cooper was worried. "Please, don't be mad. I had to talk to someone!"
Jake took a breath. "I'm not, Cooper. I'm surprised. You know my family. They will hate me!" He was worried all the time.
Cooper smiled. "Move in with mine. They don't care! I knew my mom would support me. She knows too." He wanted to be honest. "I was worried because we never talked about it. I know it was nothing but..."
Jake interrupted. "Cooper, you are my best friend. I don't want to lose that with you or be a girl about it. I'm not sure what to do. I wasn't expecting to do that! It was nice, huh?"
Cooper laughed. "Yes. I was shocked."
"Me too. I'm...glad you have people that are okay with you being you. I'm happy to be here with you." Jake smiled.
"Me too." Cooper was nervous. "I don't want to do anything to jeopardize us."
Jake agreed but he was ready to take a chance. Jake took Cooper's hand and laced them together. "I just wanted to see what it felt like." He whispered it. Jake sighed and held his hand tighter.
Cooper took a breath. "Feels nice." They sat in silence for a while just holding hands. "Jake. I have a huge crush on you." Cooper sighed. He shouldn't have said it. When Jake didn't say anything, Cooper was worried. He let go of his hand and stood up. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
Jake stood up. He was nervous but this was Cooper. He smiled. "Really?"
Cooper nodded. "I..."
Jake stepped forward and grabbed Cooper's face and kissed him softly. He was taking a chance and he was scared. He didn't want to ruin anything but he wanted to kiss his friend. Cooper had already risked everything anyway.
"I have a huge crush on you too, Cooper!" Jake watched him as he pressed his mouth to Cooper's mouth again. He wanted to kiss him again.
Ivy walked in to tell the boys dinner was ready. She froze. Jake and Cooper were wrapped together, kissing. Cooper's hands were in Jake's hair and his cap was on the floor. Jake's arms were around Cooper's waist pulling him closer.
Ivy sighed. "Love."
Sebastian wrapped his arms around her and he sighed.
Cooper had that feeling that someone was watching. "Mom!" He backed away from Jake.
"Sorry. Dinner is ready. Sorry, Honey!" She smiled.
Sebastian chuckled and pulled Ivy around and into him. "Let's show them how it's done." He smiled and kissed Ivy hard. She sighed and melted.
"Gross!" Cooper teased.
Jake was staring. He was expecting them to start yelling and throwing his clothes out of the house. Instead, Ivy and Sebastian were kissing. Jake just smiled and couldn't stop it. His parents never kissed like that. Cooper took Jake's hand and led him to the dining room. He was hungry.
