Chapter 4
The two soon continued to walk back to the village, they had chosen to come up with a cover story of how Sasuke ended up outside the village in the first place stating that Orochimaru had kidnapped him and had threaten to kill him if a team of Shinobi had shown up for him, which is why Itachi left unauthorized outside the village.
There walk was actually quit pleasant, the weather was nice, and the sun shine brightly, and the shade from the trees caused just enough blockage from the sun that they didn't get over heated during there walk.
Once they reached the village Kakashi had greeted them at the gates, he didn't seem pleased at all, his one visible eye glaring at them both, he knew there was no way Sasuke was kidnapped due to Sasuke telling him he was allegedly sick the day he had gone missing. Tho he was willing to keep the secret as long as the story was good enough of an excuse on Itachi behalf.
Kakashi took both of the Uchiha brothers to his house so they could have a conversation without others potentially overhearing, considering his house was kinda away from other house they could talk about whatever unauthorized mission Itachi had gone on.
Kakashi had asked Sasuke to help him in making some tea as Itachi sat at the table and waited as Kakashi joined him as Sasuke finished up the tea to give the two a moment to speak without the younger boy there.
Kakashi sat across from Itachi lending causally on the table with one elbow perched on his knee. The table sat low to the floor just enough from legs to slid under and pillow like cushion sat around the small table in a circle, Itachi sat a lot more proper his ankles tucked under him neatly and his hands folded in his lap.
"So." Kakashi started, breaking the ice was never his forte but he was trying to figure out what exactly had happened to cause Sasuke to leave and Itachi to go after him. "Do you wanna tell the story, or should I start asking questions?"
Itachi took a deep inhale, thinking simple things could be so much if anybody else had meet them at the gate, Kakashi had always taken things easy on him no matter how much trouble he should be getting in, the worst Kakashi had ever done to him was a simple slap on the wrist, a literately slap on his wrist, which to be honest had kinda stung.
Itachi slowly glanced up at Kakashi, his eyes are calm yet also sending little shivers down his spine, how could one look so endearing yet terrifying at the same time, Itachi pondered on that thought instead of actually answering Kakashi's question.
"Look, just...nothing was Sasuke's fault...if anything, blame me." Itachi stuttered out and Kakashi was quick to speak to stop Itachi from trying to take all the blame.
"Okay woah there now, I know this isn't you're fault, so stop blaming yourself." Kakashi reached over the small table placing a hand on Itachi shoulder, he could tell the younger boy was about to have a full on panic attack if he didn't calm him soon.
"Itachi, just tell me exactly what happened, no need to tell me lies or made up stories, I want the truth and you don't need to think about any consequences that may come from the words you say, just think about you, me, and Sasuke." There it was, one word that Kakashi knew would get Itachi to think straight and talk with some scene. 'Sasuke'.
Kakashi watched as Itachi's face shifted from panic to a bit of calmness, he could tell he made Itachi feel comfortable enough to tell the truth and start speaking. "Sasuke was trying to run away, I don't know exactly way, but I thought I could catch him in time before he was labeled as a miss-nin, so I took off after him."
Itachi stayed looking down at his own hands, which where folded neatly on the table. "So you have no clue why he just ran off?" Kakashi asked.
"Well, I know he went to Orochimaru, so nothing good I can assume."
Kakashi's calm demeanor dropped the second Itachi uttered the name Orochimaru, they both knew he was nothing to be trusted of. Sasuke walked back into the room, he took the liberality of finding the teacups himself and carried the pot of tea to the small round table.
He took a sit on one of the small cushion and then set down the pot of tea, and the three stacked teacups one by one, he kept his head down not waiting the see the deadly glare his sensei was probably giving him for lying and leaving.
He sat silently for a second then Kakashi took the teapot and started pour some tea he watched as Sasuke moved ever so slightly closer to Itachi, which was a bit of an odd sight to Kakashi seeing how recently the boy had been distancing himself from his older brother.
"Sasuke-" Kakashi started to speak as he passed a now filled cup over towards Sasuke but to his surprise Sasuke quickly bowed his head low, pressing his forehead against the wood of the table. "I'm sorry..." He mumbled quickly, his voice shacky, and on the edge of breaking.
"I don't want an apologize Sasuke, I just want to ask you a question." Kakashi placed his hand on the younger Uchiha's head, ruffling his hair a little in a way to try and cheer him up and make him feel less in trouble, Kakashi knew he was too much like his brother, and when put in a place where you're in trouble for something, you start to panic, Kakashi dealt with this too much with Itachi and he was starting to wonder if it had something to do with how they were treated back home. But he could ask Itachi that later, at the moment, he needed to know why Sasuke had tried to leave.
Sasuke lifted his head, his eyes red, looking like he was holding back tears, he made a single sniffle sound, and cleared his throat to let Kakashi know he was ready for his questions. "Why did you leave?" was all Kakashi asked, in a calm voice, knowing anything else would surely break the poor boy.
"...I wanted to be noticed..."Sasuke breathed out, Itachi's heart breaking as he heard his little brother speak, he always noticed his brother, and he was sure his teammate noticed him, and Kakashi, and Shisui, but Sasuke's need to be noticed to seek someone who wants him someone to depend on, over looked those people.
"And you didn't get enough of the here?" Kakashi asked, raising his brow at younger boy. Sasuke quickly looked shocked, he paused for a second, as if trying to think over his answer or think of any answer.
"It's not quit like that...it's...hard to explain...I'm sorry."
"Do you want to try and explain, I won't judge you, and I won't scold you, I want to help you, and to help you I need to better understand the situation."
Kakashi placed his hand on Sasuke's shoulder rubbing his thumb lightly to try and make Sasuke feel more comfortable sharing his feelings.
Sasuke wasn't so use to someone just being there, wanting to listen to him, but knowing some of this problems at the moment involved Itachi, and Itachi sitting right next to him, he didn't want to say anything.
Kakashi's eyes scanned the twelve year old boy, not use to seeing such hardship in ones eyes like this since Itachi, something deep was going on inside him, and a simple conversation and a cup of tea wasn't going to get it all out, him simply saying he wanted to be noticed by someone was probably already enough for his mind to tell someone, so he needed some time before more questions could be asked.
"You know what, how about next time, Itachi why don't you take Sasuke home for the day and meet up with me in two days, I have a mission with Naruto and Sakura and I'll tell Lord 3rd Sasuke is still sick." Kakashi stood up and was followed by Itachi and Sasuke.
He walked them to the door and Sasuke was the first to walk out, he didn't even say goodbye, his mind already shutting off for the night. Kakashi quickly stopped Itachi.
"He needs help, and I suggest you try and find out whats wrong with you're brother before things get to bad in his mind, his mind will destroy it'self and I can't see that happen to another kid, not after you."
"Sasuke won't end up like me, I promise, I would never let our father push him that far nor in the same way as me." Itachi spoke quietly, making sure Sasuke wouldn't be able to overheard him.
"I just...I'm worried about him." Itachi could heard the sound of a concerned father in Kakashi's voice whenever he spoke about Sasuke.
"You really care about him don't you?" Itachi asked.
"Of course I do, his like my family now, and it's not just me who cares about him, when I'm alone with Naruto, Sasuke is all he talks about, much like you do yourself." Kakashi chuckled smiling at the memory.
"Take care of him for me when I'm gone on missions." Itachi smiled at Kakashi.
"I always do, he just always acts differently when you're gone, kinda like you acted during those very dark days I saved you from."
Itachi's smile dropped remember then, and then thinking Sasuke's been acting the same, it scares him, "How do I save him Kakashi?" Itachi looked up at Kakashi with pleading eyes.
"I don't know, but I promise we will find a way." Kakashi lend down to Itachi, slightly sliding his mask down placing a small gently kiss on his lips. Itachi kissed back, then quickly pulled. "Kashi!" He whispered yelled, looking back in Sasuke detraction, to find the boy smirking looking at them.
Itachi went flushed quickly, he lightly punched Kakashi's arm and started to walk off to Sasuke. "Come on lets get you home." He said, looking back to see Kakashi still leaning on the door frame of his house smiling at them.
"You know, I can't say I'm surprise." Sasuke said, and Itachi looked down to him, "hm?"
"It's kinda always been noticeable with the way you two act around each other, it's kinda cute actually." Sasuke smiled at the thought as they continued there walk home.
