Chapter 73

Harrison returned home to find the shed demolished and smoldering. "What the hell is this" he said aloud as he walked around the yard. He called for Marge as he entered the house, no response. He checked everywhere finally entering the bedroom, finding all her belongings gone.  Nothing left behind, not even a note.

Bobby immediately recognized the man as the collector at Caroline's exhibit. "Amazing indeed" he replied "are these from a resident artist."

"Not yet, however I believe she will be joining our prestigious community very soon" he boasted.

Bobby introduced himself with a fictious name but one that was known in the art circles. The man stated he was Alan Bernarducci, collector and owner of the gallery. Bobby spoke of other works in the gallery, to throw off any suspicion however would gradually introduce more questions about Caroline's.

"I would be most interested in meeting this talented individual, perhaps commission her for a private exhibition. You would be compensated, of course, for making such an arrangement" Bobby stated.

Bernarducci continued to boast about his finding her, his protege, having already commissioned her for his own gallery. However assured him that they indeed could come to terms that would benefit each of them.

"I must ask, what seems to be the delay of her taking up residency here" he stated while walking over to the image of Tim.

"The subject in that painting" Bernarducci replied.

Three hours after Marge had met with Inv. Gordon he was making arrangements for her to be taken to a safe house. She had provided vital information for the case and had become their key witness for the trial. She had expressed the fear of Harrison finding out, no longer trusting him since he too had been diagnosed with PTSD and had moments of irrational behavior. Assuring her she would be safe, he escorted her to a residence near Houston where she would have 24 hour police protection. Once back at the station he began the process of presenting the evidence for the DAs office. His phone alerted him to an incoming text message. 'Productive trip, returning in the morning, will provide further then...Bobby' . Gordon acknowledged the message stating he too had obtained pertinent information as well.

Bobby was back at the office around 10 am. He took out his phone, transferring the recording of the conversation he had with Bernarducci  to his computer. Feeling more confident now that he could connect the professor and the collector in working together to get Caroline to New York. The next step would be determining the plan devised between her father and Boden. He was sickened by Harrison's complacency with the assault. 'How can someone accept such deviant behavior towards their own child'  he thought to himself just as Gordon walked in.

He tossed a notebook on the desk in front of Bobby. "What's this" he asked picking it up.

"More evidence on Boden than we could ever possibly hoped for" he stated while pouring a cup of coffee.

Bobby leafed through a few pages "holy shit, where did you get this from" he exclaimed.

"Her mother, Caroline's mother" he stated stirring the cream in his coffee. She called me yesterday asking to meet privately, three hours later I had this and placed her in a safe house in Houston. She's our number one witness to nail this bastard for life".

"She'll testify against her own brother" Bobby asked.

"He's not her brother. Her mom remarried after her dad passed away. Boden was the man's son. I'll show you the recorded interview with her, she explains everything. Then handed me this notebook, she documented everything. Bobby, this bastard has sexually assaulted hundreds over the years" Gordon explained.

"How did you make out in New York" Gordon asked.

"I found the collector that had been at the university. You'll need to listen to the phone recording I made. The connection between him and the professor is definite. Linking Harrison and Boden to those two is the next step" Bobby replied.

Harrison sat on the front porch drinking from a bottle of whiskey.  He had attempted several times to contact Marge with no response. Boden's laughter and words played over and over in his mind. 'Just what tbe hell did he mean about ask Marge' he thought as he continued drinking the whiskey.

Marge felt uneasy sitting in the living room of the safe house. She knew she'd done the right thing as far as Caroline was concerned, she kept her safe as long as she could. But the others and her involvement, what did the future hold for her now that she revealed all.
