A Sister Picnic
Chapter 1
Princess Joey ran through the halls of the Loveland Castle. The castle was so beautiful with its stone walls and marble stone floor. She wished she could live her herself, but she was visiting her sister Princess Michelle. Joey always kind of envied Michelle a little. She was the older sister and the first to be married to Prince Nathan. Once Nathan's father dies, Nathan and Michelle would become the King and Queen of Loveland.
Joey was excited. Her and Michelle had the whole day planned. They were going to take a walk through the castle gardens, and eat on a blanket beside the river bed. It had been ages it seemed like since her and her sister had any time together. She missed Michelle being with her. She missed Michelle tucking her in at night, the fresh cookies she would make in the kitchen. Joey was glad that the two of them got this day for themselves, to be sisters once more.
Joey and Michelle saddled up and, with the aid of a servant, set off for the river. Once they got there, Joey and Michelle strode up gracefully to the river while the servant set up their lunch.
Joey took off one of her shoes, raised the hem of her dress, and stepped into the water. She smiled at the water in between her toes, and the breeze blowing against her waist long, brown, curly hair. With a smile still on her face, she turned around towards her sister, and gestured for her to join.
"Come on, Michelle," she said, waving her in.
Michelle smiled and rolled her eyes. She was a splitting image of her younger sister with the long, brown hair, but instead of brown eyes, she had crystal blue. She slowly took off her shoes, and followed Joey in. Michelle sighed as she stared at the glorious blue water. "It's been so long since we've had a day for ourselves," she stated.
Joey shook her head. "It has. Two years to be exact." Both girls giggled. "I've missed you."
Michelle's smile vanished. "I've missed you to, little sis," she said, not bothering to look at Joey. "I've thought about you every day since I left."
Joey looked over at her sister. She couldn't think of anything to say.
Michelle turned her glance towards Joey. She saw how her sister looked as if she was studying her. Trying to figure something out. Michelle smiled, and gestured towards their picnic. "Shall we eat?" she asked.
Joey nodded. Both of the young ladies stepped out of the water and, with their shoes still off, sat down on the ground to eat their lunch. Neither spoke for a while.
Joey was the first to speak when she heard Michelle chuckling slightly. "What?" she asked, with a curious look. Michelle kept smiling, but shook her head. Joey placed her hands on her hips. "Michelle, you better tell me before I'm forced to become unladylike with you."
Michelle laughed at the comment. "It's nothing, Joey." Michelle placed her plate down on the blanket. "I was just thinking."
"About?" Joey pushed.
Michelle stopped eating, and looked at her sister. There was so much kindness in her eyes. "Joey, you are nineteen years old."
Joey lowered her gaze. She already knew were this was going. "Yes?" she asked anyway.
"When are you going to start searching for your future husband?" Joey didn't want to answer. Love wasn't really her thing. Michelle continued on. "You know me, Joey. When I was nineteen I had already become engaged."
Joey rolled her eyes. "I know," she said with a heavy breath.
"Do you at least have someone in mind?" Michelle continued to ask.
Joey nodded slowly. "I have. I've been seeing Prince Alex. Only a few times though." Michelle got that exciting look in her eyes. Joey got all defensive. "Whoa, whoa slow down. Don't get to excited. We are just starting to know each other."
Michelle was basically about to freak out. "I want to know every thing! All the details. What's he like? Where did you go? Is he good looking? How-"
Joey raised her hand to stop her sister. "I said we just started getting to know each other." They both stopped there, and began to stare at the rivers rushing waters. Michelle could see a big smile forming in Joey's face. "But yes," she began. "He is very good looking. He's tall, has blonde hair as shining as the sun, the most perfect teeth, handsome hazel eyes." Joey sighed. "He is the perfect prince."
Michelle began laughing. "Sounds like he's the perfect man for you."
Joey's smile disappeared. "Almost," she said.
Michelle cocked her head. "What is it? You sounded like he was the one you wanted."
"Thats just it," Joey replied with a shrug. "He's not the one I want. He's the one father wants me to be with. I want a man that I can choose. Not someone who is given to me."
Michelle nodded her head. "I understand. Unfortunately, that didn't happen between Nathan and I. Father is the one he chose for me, and Nathan is the one I married." Michelle stood up from off the ground. "But, in time, I learned to love him." She paused. "And I love him more then life."
Joey stood to her feet. "Well maybe, sister, one day I can find love just as you did."
Michelle wrapper her arms around her little sister. "Maybe."
The two of them took off back towards their horses. They slipped their shoes on, and mounted, getting ready for the ride home.
