Prizes and Winners
"MY TURN, SHORTY."
Edward teases with a laugh as he waits for Eloise in the middle of the clearing, cracking both of his muscles and stretching his legs.
"Look at that; the broods-a-lot has a personality after all." Christopher jokes as Emmett laughs out loud along with Cordelia.
As the rest of the family tries to contain their laughter, Edward rolls his eyes playfully.
"Let's see who has the last laugh after this," Eloise smirks with a tilt of her head. "What's the winner's prize?"
"If I win. I want your most prized possession of an Audrey Hepburn signed item." Edward initiates rather confidently, with a grin on his face.
Eloise ponders as she thinks about the things that her beloved friend Audrey gave her, a vinyl disc of her song 'moon river' with a personalized note.
"That. I want that." Edward agrees as Eloise allows him to read her mind. She again closes her mind's barrier once again, and with a nod, she agrees.
The family's and the shape-shifter's eyes shifted to Edward and Eloise's back and forth.
"If I win. I want the trumpet that I saw in the music room that I know you own but was previously owned by Louis Armstrong. It has his signature on it." Eloise tells him she saw the trumpet encased in a glass box.
An instrument like that shouldn't be displayed. It should be played, and enjoy the music that it creates.
"Fine."
"Give me your best shot, Edtwat." Eloise teased as she walked toward the middle of the clearing with her hands shoved into the pocket of her pants.
"Kick some sense into his dumb ass!" Rosalie shouts with a phone in hand; on the other line watching the scene unfold, is Rosalie's wife. "I bet on Eloise winning!" She shouts as Christopher replies as he collects their bets, "On it!"
Edward runs towards Eloise as she moves towards him. Edward leaps, thinking he'll have her in his grasp, but Eloise slides towards the ground between his legs, successfully avoiding him.
Edward turns around, frustrated that he couldn't read her mind, and he runs towards her again.
The moves Eloise used were unfamiliar to him. They came at each other again and again
They moved so fast that Bella couldn't keep up.
Edward has been throwing punches, with Eloise blocking every attack.
Eloise grabs hold of his right arm, twisting it as she swings her leg, making contact with Edward and throwing him towards the trees.
Eloise grins as she opens her mind, thinking of how she should continue with her first move.
Edward smiles triumphantly.
Eloise's thoughts slipped through her barriers.
Edward moves toward Eloise, and he grabs her arm, thinking that he'll win, yet thought wrong when Eloise swings herself to his back as both of her hands hold his head, tilting his head forcefully and displaying his neck. Eloise bared her teeth as she made a sound of cracking.
"Fuck."
"Always expect the unexpected," Eloise whispers to his ears as she removes her hold on Edward, her feet back to the ground.
As the family cheered aloud, she continued, "I'll surely be enjoying that trumpet."
"Edward just got humbled!" Emmett yells out as he claps loudly as Christopher hands him a 20$ bill.
Alice skips toward Bella, who stood on the sidelines, amazed. She knew Edward would lose, and she didn't realize how Eloise would beat him.
"She's amazing, huh?" Alice asks Bella, and Bella nods in agreement as she wonders if she can talk to Eloise after training.
Everyone took turns, Carlisle, then Rosalie, Esme, and Emmett again. Bella squinted through her lashes, cringing as Jasper attacked Esme. That one was the hardest to watch. Then he slowed down, still not quite enough for Bella to understand his emotions, and gave more instruction.
While Eloise watched their moves, giving out instructions here and there.
"You see what I'm doing here?" he would ask.
"Yes, just like that," he encouraged.
"Concentrate on the sides. Don't forget where their target will be. Keep moving."
"We're about to finish." Eloise hears Edward whisper to Bella.
Jasper confirmed that, turning toward the wolves for the first time, his expression uncomfortable again. "We'll be doing this tomorrow. Please feel welcome to observe again." as he walks towards Eloise, taking her hand in his and giving her a peck on the forehead.
"Yes," Edward answered in Sam's calm voice. "We'll be here."
Then Edward sighed, patted Bella's arm, and stepped away from her. He turned to his family.
"The pack thinks it would be helpful to be familiar with each of our scents - so they don't make mistakes later. If we could hold very still, it would make it easier for them."
"Certainly," Carlisle said to Sam. "Whatever you need."
The rest of the family looked displeased a natural reaction.
There was a gloomy, throaty grumble from the wolf pack as they all rose to their feet.
Sam was in the lead, of course. Unbelievably huge, black as midnight.
As the rest of the pack soon followed his lead.
While the Cullens lined themselves.
Sam approached Carlisle and Thalia, where they stood in the front, the vast pack right on his tail.
Jasper stiffened as Eloise squeezed his hand for comfort, but Emmett, on the other side of Carlisle, was grinning and relaxed.
Sam sniffed at Carlisle, seeming to wince slightly as he did. Then he moved on to Thalia, whose scent seemed to differ from Carlisle's.
"Thalia's half-banshee. I'm sure you know." Edward answered Sam's question in his mind. Sam seemed satisfied with the answer. He moved towards Jasper and did the same.
Eloise then purposely made her scent ten times stronger than the rest, and a growl of frustration was released from Sam.
Edward snickered.
As the rest of the shapeshifters familiarized themselves with the Cullen's scent, wold with reddish-brown fur and longer than the others, shaggy in comparison, stopped in front of Bella. Bella was laughing as the shapeshifter licked her hand.
The Cullens were watching them oddly with a mix of disgust.
Eloise rolls her eyes. Bella plays with them now. When she turns into a vampire, she wouldn't even stand near those shapeshifters anymore because of their...odor.
The other shapeshifters were backing away now, not taking their eyes off the Cullens as they departed. But the shifter beside Bella stayed.
Jasper led her towards the forest. He looks down his shoulder as Eloise lifts her gaze towards him. "Hunt with me for a while? Carlisle has blood bags stocked for you in the house."
"I like the sound of that."
