𝖝. Human Life

𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐄𝐍:
Human Life

"CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR HUMAN LIFE?" Alice asks while leaning on the railing of the balcony in her hotel room, with an amazing view of the sunset.

Cordelia smiles gleefully as she recalls and tells Alice about her human life from the memories that are slowly fading every decade.

She recalls how her mother always baked pastries with fresh fruits grown in their backyard, how her little sister and brother quarreled all the time, with her father educating her and teaching her how to read and write.

Since women at that time were meant to serve their obnoxious husbands and tend to their children at home, and her father didn't want that for her. He wanted her to be an educated and accomplished woman that could break the patriarchy, a woman that could live without a man.

It was a nice summer day when her human life ended. Now, how her human life ended was not like the others, where it came from tragedy or accident. Her human life ended because of hatred.

A merchant her father worked with was furious with her father, how the man got all the glory, luck, and especially money entering his life. It seemed that it was jealousy that struck such a gruesome thought that made him do his selfish actions.

Her father's friend decided that Cordelia's father needed something horrible to happen in his lifetime, an act of revenge, so to speak.

With a pistol at hand, he approached the young woman who was carrying a basket, walking alone on an empty road, off to the market to buy ingredients for her mother's homemade stew.

"I'm sorry," With that said, he pulled the trigger, shooting her right in the abdomen. Cordelia's cause of death was blood loss. Nobody ever did find her, well, except Mansion. Her now father figure was the one who saved her life.

And that was all she could remember of the last moments in her human life, how she opened her crimson red eyes that replaced her innocent hazel brown eyes. With Mansion, explaining in detail what happened and what she is.

How he broke the news that she isn't allowed to see her beloved family anymore because of her sudden temptation of human blood, how her humanity slipped away from her grasp, from then and now, it wasn't the same, it never is.

"I was sentimental when I was human and still am. I think that's why I have memory manipulation as my ability," Cordelia informs Alice with a pleasant smile.

"Do you still think of what will happen to you if you're still human?" Alice asks.

Cordelia hums and tilts her head to the side while looking at her fingers. "No. I rather not indulge what has not happened."

Alice then sighs, her eyes glaze, and Cordelia observes her quietly. The pixie shakes her head in disappointment and says, "Edward is torturing himself. And Bella is depressed."

"They are in the same situation, don't you think?"

"They are. Edward is stubborn. I told him not to leave," Alice tells her, and Cordelia nods and says, "Leaving your mate behind for selfish reasons is quite an act of stupidity."

"Bella tried to send me an email. I saw it. She's been trying to gain contact with every member of the family."

"It's hard to forget, is it not? Such a pleasant experience with you lot is unforgettable if I say so myself," Cordelia tells her. The Cullens treated Bella Swan as family.

It is awfully hard to forget the people who treated you as one of them. The memories of love and laughter soon turned into agony and longing for their presence.

Who could forget that? Nonetheless, how could one forget a family of vampires?

"Bella will move on, and Edward has to deal with the consequences of his actions," Cordelia adds, and Alice just nods in agreement.

Bella will find someone and continue with her human life, someone with a beating heart and warm presence.

Then Edward will watch her in the shadows with regret in his decision of leaving the woman that he loved without a thought.

"My family is enjoying their time alone. Thalia and Carlisle are in New Jersey with Jasper. Speaking of Jasper, he's been improving his thirst. It has been two months since the disaster," Alice babbles. Happily, the thought of Jasper learning control of his thirst makes her proud, yet she just couldn't help but think.

If Jasper just sticks to the human blood diet, he would've had better control. His ability needed more, with having to feel every member of the family's thirst for Bella's blood. Nonetheless, feeling Edward's hunger and craving for Bella's blood is harsh even for her.

"Jasper should have just had the human blood diet," Cordelia thoughtfully says.

The human blood diet will indeed help Jasper grasp and use his ability better than the animal blood diet. It'll help him control far better.

"Why not let Carlisle offer him some blood bags from the hospital? I'm sure that blood isn't needed," Cordelia curiously asks.

She is sure that with a small town and small population, accidents don't occur often.

She is certain that many of the people in that town donate their blood, why not offer it to a vampire with a problem switching diets?

"Carlisle offered to Jasper that he should just stay with the human blood diet and give him blood bags. We wouldn't mind. We wouldn't treat him any less. Jasper just doesn't want to."

"Interesting. Can I ask why?"

"Jasper promised his fiancée that he'll find a proper way to feed. Now that he found what he was looking for, he was ready to switch himself," Alice explained while Cordelia listened intently to every word.

Cordelia knew the constant brutal battles in the South for territories that Jasper and his fiancée took part in.

Cordelia just couldn't imagine the pain they injured during battles. It wasn't humans vs. vampires. It was worse, newborn vampires vs. vampires.

Those newborns are ruthless, merciless, and wild. They have no control over their thirst. They are willing to kill anyone who gets in their way for blood, or in Jasper's perspective, to win a battle.

"I admire his persistence," Cordelia genuinely says. She could tell that Jasper loves his fiancée with every fiber of his being if he's willing to perfect his diet for her.

"I guess that's what love does to a person."

"I guess it does."
