𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄:
Weeny the house elf
(1971)

AT TEN YEARS OLD. Viviane is already having problems with her identity. She doesn't know who she really is because of all the things her Father has forced her to do. She doesn't know what she really wants, she's confused. And with that in mind, it saddens her to no end.

Because she might never know who she truly is.

For the rest of her life, she'll always be known as the Hawthorne Heiress that was never meant to be a girl.

A mistake.

The biggest scandal in wizarding history.

Merlin, why was she given the heaviest burden to carry? With a huge responsibility to abide? A bloodline to live up to? And expectations to exceed? Why was it all so difficult?

Why was being Viviane Blair Hawthorne so difficult?

Others might not think the way she does. They all know that Viviane is living a life of royalty because of their aristocracy, power, perfection, wealth, and pureblood status.

Everyone wants to live the life of Viviane Blair Hawthorne. Merlin, if only they had seen what it is really like, what hides inside the supposed picture of perfection in the House of Hawthorne. They would scurry away—hide as fast as they could.

It isn't easy as everyone makes it up to be.

Viviane sighs as she stares at her bedroom ceiling. She couldn't sleep. Sometimes her thoughts consumed her so much that she did not sleep—so many worries at ten years old. She removes the duvet blankets that were wrapped around her. Sitting up with a heavy sigh.

She opens her bedside table lamp, the light illuminated timidly. Shadows danced along the walls, swirling and swaying to the rhythm of the lamp's glow. Previously shrouded in darkness, the furniture emerged from obscurity, their contours subtly highlighted.

"Weeny," Viviane calls out softly. Viviane purses her lips, feeling guilty. She doesn't want to disturb the poor creature in the middle of the night. But she just doesn't want to be alone.

A loud crack erupted. Weeny apparated a distance in front of her with a worried look. "Weeny is being summoned by Mistress Viviane in the middle of the night, and Weeny is worried." Weeny looks up at her, taking slow steps, grabbing her large ears, and grasping and twisting them.

Viviane frowns, hopping down her bed as she crouches, taking Weeny's hand in hers, stopping the upcoming anxiety from the house elf. "I'm sorry, Weeny. I didn't mean to worry you. I just couldn't sleep and can't bear to be alone."

Weeny's eyes morph into a sad-like state. "Does Weeny have permission to speak about her concerns?"

"Yes, Weeny. Remember that you can always speak freely to me." Viviane assures with a soft smile. The house-elf returns her smile, concern filling Weeny's expression. "Weeny would like to know why Mistress Viviane can't sleep?"

Viviane sits back down on her bed, patting the empty space beside her. Weeny climbs up to her bed, sitting beside her, both of their short legs dangling at the edge of the bed, with Weeny looking at her expectantly. "I–I also don't know. I guess I'm just bothered."

"Bothered about what, Mistress Viviane?"

"Everything. Mostly about my father."

"Is Weeny still able to speak freely?" Weeny asks again as she fiddles with her long slim fingers. Viviane giggles in response as she nods.

"Yes, Weeny, you may," Viviane assures again as she scooches towards the headboard of her bed. Leaning on the soft material as she hugs a pillow to her chest. Weeny then sits in the middle of the bed, rocking back and forth softly.

"Weeny thinks that Master Daniel is a vile, cruel man," Weeny whispers, but Viviane hears it. She chuckles, tilting her head. It is true. Her father is what Weeny described to be.

"Why do you think so, Weeny?" Viviane asks as she signals for Weeny to speak out.

"Weeny has witnessed it. When you were born. Oh, Mistress is so happy to have a girl, but then Master Daniel is very angry at Mistress. He made Mistress cry." Weeny tells her with a frown.

"And Weeny helps Mistress charm her scars."

Viviane sighs. She looks at Weeny with a grateful gaze, "Thank you for helping, mama. Weeny."

Weeny waves her hand in dismissal, "Mistress Viviane does not need to thank Weeny for serving Mistress. Weeny serves the Wise House of Cruz and its members, especially Mistress and you, Mistress Viviane." The house-elf boasts with a proud smile.

Ever so curious, Viviane asks, "Do you serve Father, Weeny?"

Weeny huffs, "Only because Weeny is obligated to do so because he is Mistress's husband."

Viviane laughs softly, and Weeny joins in.

"Weeny, do you know if my grandparents are well?" Viviane asks, and Weeny nods. "Mistress Maria and Master Robert are well and are in London for the summer." Weeny informs her, and Viviane nods thoughtfully.

"Do they hate us, Weeny?"

Weeny looked at her appalled and began waving her hand. "No!" Weeny exclaims in a petrified tone. Weeny scoots forward, "Mistress Maria and Master Robert misses you, Mistress Viviane and Mistress dearly."

"Why don't they ever visit?"

Weeny looks at her hesitantly, "Tell me, Weeny." Viviane insisted.

"Only because Master Daniel forbade it."

Viviane rolls her eyes, a scuff escaping her lips. "Not surprising at all."

"Mistress misses them so. Very much." Weeny tells her. "Weeny belonged to Master Robert, then Mistress wanted me to join her in this household. Of course, Weeny happily obliged."

"Weeny, can I ask you a question?"

"Of course, Mistress Viviane can ask Weeny a question."

"I noticed mama gave you clothes all the time, but clothes are given to house-elves to be freed. Why aren't you a free house elf?" Viviane asks the house-elf, scanning the creature that wore neat clothing given by her mother.

"Weeny is a free house elf. Ever since Weeny served the Wise House of Cruz, it is more than clothes, Mistress Viviane. Weeny chooses to serve the Wise House of Cruz and Mistress. Weeny will forever be grateful for how Weeny is treated. Weeny will always be loyal to Mistress and you, Mistress Viviane." Weeny answers confidently as she sits beside Viviane, as Viviane tucks her in.

"I'm very glad, Weeny. I'm very happy that you keep me company." Viviane smiles at the house elf, and Weeny bashfully smiles.

"Weeny is sure that when Mistress Viviane receives her Hogwarts letter, Mistress Viviane's friends will keep her company."

"They won't understand me like you do, Weeny."

Weeny's eyes began to water, "Mistress Viviane is too kind to trust Weeny."

"I trust you with my life Weeny." Viviane grabs her face as she wipes Weeny's tears with her thumb.

"Weeny is honored, Mistress Viviane, truly," Weeny responds with a hiccup.

Viviane giggles, "Speaking of Hogwarts. Do you know how to read and write, Weeny? So I can send you letters while I'm at Hogwarts."

Weeny's eyes soften at the thought of Mistress Viviane writing her letters, "Weeny knows only a tiny bit how to read, but Weeny does not know how to write."

Viviane's eyes brighten, "Would you like me to teach you, Weeny? So you could respond to my letters?"

Weeny sat up excitedly, the duvet blanket falling off her small figure, "Weeny would like to write to Mistress Viviane when she's at Hogwarts."

"I'll be glad to teach you, Weeny. When would you like to start?"

Weeny hums, looking thoughtfully. "Whenever Mistress Viviane is free from her own sessions and tutors."

"Saturday night then?"

"Weeny is alright with that." Weeny nods in agreement, then remembers, "It is very late, Mistress Viviane. You have your ballet session, Latin tutor, and potions with Master Daniel in the morning."

Viviane pouts, expression turning sour as she crosses her arms to her chest, as a huff escapes her lips, "Oh, right."

Weeny pats her knee as she hops down the bed. "Weeny will bring Mistress a nice glass of warm milk." Weeny announces, and Viviane smiles, "That would be nice Weeny. Thank you."

The house elf nodded, sporting the same smile, and disapparated from her room with a loud crack.
