True Happiness
"HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT?" Thalia asks Carlisle with a packed lunch by Esme in hand. They are currently on their way to a covered park.
It's a gloomy day, the sun covered by the grayish cloud, not the usual breezy and warm Manhattan.
"Thought about what?" Carlisle asks while looking to his side to face Thalia. The blond doctor knew exactly what she was implying.
It's been an unspoken topic between the two ever since they started seeing each other as more than friends.
"Us," Thalia answers as they arrive at a clean table. Putting down her things as she sits at the opposite side of Carlisle's, she sighs and continues, "This-" as she points at herself and him, "What are we, Carlisle?"
Carlisle purses his lips and takes hold of her left hand, and says, "Whatever you want it to be, Thalia, I'll never force you to be with me, even if I want to, but being with me can be dangerous."
"Isn't being with me dangerous too?" Thalia muses quickly as she squeezes his cold hand, "I can feel people who die in the next hour and minute, and those deaths have different causes."
"What if I lose control? What if I did something that could cause your demise? What if-" Carlisle babbles as Thalia cuts him off by placing her pointing finger on his lips. "Too many what if's. We can't answer those doubts without trying and without risking, Carlisle."
Carlisle places a peck on her finger and takes hold of her hand. "I'll always be with you, Thalia, with your side if that's what you want."
Thalia smiles at him and takes a deep breath, and sighs. "I've been through what people thought they could only see in movies-" she shakes her head and releases a light laugh, and continues, "At the age of 12, I lost my parents due to a car crash. I've witnessed death multiple times at a young age. I've experienced being a rebellious teenager who questions, 'Why me? Why not somebody else?' then I accepted the fact that I wouldn't have a normal human life when I thought everything was going to be better. I got myself into an unhealthy relationship," Thalia stops and looks at Carlisle.
They have talked about this. She told him everything when she was ready and how she is still grateful until this day that Carlisle never treated her differently and respected her boundaries.
"And I-" Thalia releases a deep sigh as she feels herself tearing up and looks at Carlisle, who nods in encouragement. "I just want to be happy, I want to feel what true happiness is, Carlisle, and I feel that with you, with your family, and I'm grateful for my grandmother. She's my everything, but when I'm with you, I feel complete, I feel contented...I feel loved, and this is all-" she says frantically, her hands making these sorts of movements of trying to prove a point, while Carlisle chuckles and says, "Slow down, Love."
Thalia laughs lightly and evens her breathing, and continues, "This is all new to me, you, being so kind, understanding, and patient, and I know this is what is supposed to be, and being out of such a toxic relationship, I thought I'll never find anyone again, and then I bumped into you, literally," She laughs. Carlisle smiles at the sight. This is what he wants to hear and see every day for the rest of his immortality.
"You asked me if I want this, and I do. I want us to happen. I'm a twenty-six-year-old woman with a tragic life background. I'm one hundred percent sure that I deserve to find my happiness," Thalia ends with a beaming smile on her face as she expectantly looks at Carlisle for his answer and the blonde puts a hand on the back of her head and gently pulls her towards him and places a kiss on Thalia's plump lips as Thalia is startled for a moment and returns the kiss nonetheless and smiles as they pull away from each other, their foreheads touching, eyes closed.
Carlisle says, "I'm three hundred and sixty-five years old frozen in the age of 26, I've been alone for centuries, looking for someone to fill the emptiness in my heart, I'm 100 percent sure that I deserve to find my happiness."
They both laugh as they pull away from each other, sitting beside each other, Thalia placing her head on Carlisle's shoulder as the man wraps his arm around her small waist, "After all of that, I think I deserve a cup of coffee."
Carlisle places a peck on her forehead as Thalia stands up and takes her wallet and phone out of her bag, and Carlisle asks, "Do you want me to come with you?" Thalia shakes her head and says, "My go-to coffee shop is just right down the street. I'll be quick" The man hesitantly nods. He knows that Thalia needs some space after the talk that they had. "I'll be here when you get back."
She smiles at him and, places a kiss on his lips, and walks towards the sidewalk, heading towards her local coffee shop.
As she opens the door walking towards the counter. As the person on the counter is facing back from Thalia, she clears her throat and politely says, "I would like to order, please."
The person turns around with a devilish smirk on their lips and taunts, "It's been quite a long time, is it not?"
