chapter forty four - live aid

wow! I'm sorry this took so long to update.... I've had a rough few weeks! thank y'all for being so patient.

this chapter is super long, so prepare yourselves. I'm sorryyy lol hope y'all enjoy it!

IT WAS JULY 13th, the day of Live Aid, and the Deacon household was uncharacteristically silent in the early hours of the morning, as it normally was before the baby woke everyone up, or before Eddie came into the room demanding that his parents wake up to make breakfast.

Valerie was just surprised Michael wasn't up yet. Of course, she wasn't complaining. Michael was a fairly heavy sleeper, which he always proved when Eddie barreled into the room and made lots of noise. Michael slept through it all.

Valerie and John took advantage of this foreign peacefulness. Especially with John having been on tour, amongst loud music for months, the silence was welcomed between them.

"You really should go get ready," Valerie whispered between the slow kisses she and John were sharing.

"Later," John replied, kissing along Valerie's jawline and down her neck, making her shiver lightly.

"You know I have nothing against that but-" Valerie broke off her sentence, losing her train of thought as John gave the particularly sensitive part of her neck a light bite. "You really should get ready," she said, slightly breathless.

"Darling, it's 6:30 in the morning," John said while he propped his head on his hand after leaving a mark on her neck, gazing down at Valerie. "I'd be too early if I got ready right now. I'm never in a rush to hurry away from you, even if we're on tour and I can't see you, my love will travel miles,"

"And even with all the time in the world right in my hands, I can't waste one second not loving you," Valerie concluded, finishing the vows that John had said on his wedding day. He brushed a strand of her hair from her face, drowsiness still lingering in his expression while Valerie reached up to mess with a strand of his hair.

Valerie remembered the - now, quite trivial - argument that she and John had gotten into when he'd come home with his hair permed. Looking back,  she saw how stupid it had been.

But she also attributed the idiotic fight to the fact that their relationship, at that time, had not been in a good place. After they'd gotten married and Valerie got pregnant again, there were some issues with finances,  as well as between Valerie and John. But they'd worked them out within the year, and John very often told Roger that their relationship was stronger than ever.

Valerie opened her mouth to speak, but the door to their bedroom suddenly flew open. She immediately ducked back under the covers and pretended to be asleep. John gave her a look, and she giggled.

"Just play along. And make sure he stays quiet," she whispered, not wanting Michael to wake up, though knowing he inevitably would. John shook his head at his wife, smiling, while Eddie ran loudly into the room.

"Eddie, your brother is sleep- oof!" John said, laughing as Eddie had hopped onto the bed and attacked John with a hug. John laughed quietly, ruffling his son's brown hair.

"Why are you always awake so early, Ed?" John asked, adjusting himself so that Eddie could sit comfortably in his arms.

Eddie ignored his dad and wriggled out of his arms, jumping on the bed over to Valerie. "Mamá, I know you're not asleep." He said, falling on top of his mother, his weight falling atop her causing her to laugh, blowing the cover that she had been asleep.

"Ay, eres muy terco con despiertandome a las seis y media." Valerie said, sitting up from under the covers and making a grab for her son.

He shrieked with laughter, and she hurriedly shushed him, pushing the messy hair from her face as Michael started to cry.

"Sorry," Eddie said, watching as Valerie got out of bed and hurried over to her youngest son, picking him up from the crib and cradling him, speaking to him softly in Spanish.

"It's okay, Eddie. I knew he'd wake up soon," Valerie said,  though didn't hide her exasperated sigh as she headed to one of the drawers to search for a clean diapers so she could change Michael.

Truthfully, she was used to Eddie waking Michael up early in the morning. She knew John wasn't though, but it wasn't as if they hadn't already been awake.

"Is Lenny awake yet?" John asked Eddie, referring to their nearly ten year old daughter, Elena.

"No, she told me to wake you up instead." Eddie said shyly, his rosy toddler cheeks forming a smile when John laughed while Eddie flopped backwards onto the rumpled comforter.

John eventually told Eddie to go watch TV while Valerie finished changing Michael. "Go on, you get ready, too. I have to feed Michael," Valerie said, nudging John with her hip while she cradled Michael in her arms.

"Oh, I know, babe,  I know your hungry," Valerie said while she sat in her black, soft chair by the window - it was practically an heirloom at that point, as John had gotten it for her back when she had been pregnant with Elena. It seemed so long ago.

The rest of the morning seemed to go by in a blur; within the next two hours Elena and Mary June had woken up, John had nearly burnt the french toast he'd made for the kids, and Michael had gotten sick all over John.

"Oh, darling, does it really matter what shirt you wear?" Valerie said, leaning against the closet doorframe while John dig through his collection of shirts. Downstairs, Elena was watching Michael before Julie arrived to babysit, and the other kids were running about the living room.

"As long as it doesn't have throw up on it, I suppose not." John said while he pulled a pink shirt with - what looked like - a comic strip printed all about it from the rack, inspecting it before he pulled the sleeves on.

"When did you get that?" Valerie asked, as she hadn't seen the shirt before in John's rotation. She attributed it to him finally coming out of his monochromatic phase and mixing in more decorative clothing.

"I went shopping with Roger when we were in America. He thought I'd like it. He's got more of an eye for fashion than Freddie,  y'know." John said while he buttoned the buttons on the shirt, fumbling a bit.

"Don't you let him hear you say that," Valerie said, her red converse tapping on their wooden floors while she headed over to John so she might help him button his shirt.

She did so in silence, locking eyes with him only when she reached the top button. "Are you nervous?" She asked, letting her hands slide around his waist as she pulled him closer to her. He smiled slightly, a soft laugh escaping his lips while he let his hands rest on Valerie's hips.

       "Just a bit,"

"Should just be like a normal concert though, yeah?" Valerie asked.

"Except now it's got to be extra perfect because we're raising money for a famine in Ethiopia. But other than that, yeah, just like normal," John said, sarcastically shrugging his shoulders, bursting out in laughter when Valerie gave him a light push.

"Yes, it's just like a normal concert. Freddie's been told by his doctor not to sing, though, so I don't know how well that's going to fare." John admitted with a sigh.

"Mum! Eddie pulled my braids out!" Mary June shrieked from downstairs.

"Ai, Eddie is a little heathen sometimes. I was hoping he would behave more since you've been around." Valerie said with a sigh. Whenever the band had taken a break,  when their father was around, the kids were little angels. When he went on tour again,  they were reckless.

John gave her a sympathetic smile. "Well, if we take them out for ice cream later, maybe they'll behave a bit better,"

"Oh? Maybe that's why they like you so much," Valerie giggled while she and John headed back into the bedroom.

"I'm not anti sugar like you are,"

"Hey, I'm not anti sugar. I'd just like to be able to put them to sleep at night." Valerie said while she began to gather her things, checking how she looked in the mirror one last time. For the occasion, she put her hair into loose curls, and she was wearing black faux leather pants that Freddie had given her.

She figured she had to wear them as good luck for him. For Freddie. He said he didn't need it when she'd told him her outfit plan, but he encouraged her to wear the pants anyway because 'You have hips now, darling, flaunt them!'

She wasn't even offended because it was true.

But that was about as dressed up as she got: curling her hair and leather pants. She wore a red Bucees t shirt that John had gotten her years ago in Texas, and red sneakers to match.

"You look wonderful, Val. More colour coordinated than I am for sure. And the kids are more dressed up than you, so don't worry."

"That's true. Mary June insisted on wearing that poofy dress she loves. And Eddie stole another one of Mary's skirts," Valerie said, and John gave her an amused smile.

Freddie often encouraged the three year old Eddie in his ventures to wearing more feminine clothing. "Anything is androgynous if you don't give a fuck!" He'd said to Eddie, who was too young to know what 'androgynous' and 'fuck' meant,  but he loved going through Roger and Freddie's old outfits and photos, and he loved wearing anything he wanted to.

"Of course he did. You ought to buy him some of his own. Juney's starting to get mad at him." John said.

There was another shriek of anger from downstairs,  and Valerie and John shared a look. "It's going to be a very long day, isn't it?" Valerie questioned, and John gave a breathless laugh.

"Yes, I think so." He replied. Just then the doorbell rang. "That'll be Julie," John said, hurrying downstairs to open the door for his sister. Valerie followed after him, though she made a quick stop to give Eddie a little talk before she said hello to Julie.

She and Julie set aside their differences, and they were now very close friends. Julie loved to take care of Valerie's kids because she couldn't have any of her own. And so when Valerie asked her to look after little Michael the day of Live Aid, Julie jumped at the opportunity.

The three of them talked in the living for a bit, discussing the schedule for the day before Valerie gave Julie and her baby a kiss before she turned to John.

"Okay, shall we leave now? There'll probably be a lot of traffic going in,  even though it doesn't start for a while," John said while he checked his outfit in the mirror by the front door.

"Have you got your bag with everything you need? Extra clothes, your jacket?" Valerie asked while she started out the door, pulling her purse over her head and across her chest so that it rest against her hip.

"Yes, mum, I do." John said jokingly while he wrapped an arm around Valerie's shoulders, nuzzling his nose against her cheek while she tried to squirm away from him laughing.

"I'm just making sure," she said with a smile, nudging him with her hip before turning to Julie again.

"Thank you again for watching the kids, Jules. I'm sorry you can't go to the concert."

"It's no worries, Valerie, you know I love to look after the kids," Julie said while she lightly moved a stray strand of dark brown hair from Michael's face. "Besides, I'm not a crowds person. I'd much prefer to watch the concert here." She concluded with a smile.

"I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures for you, okay? Or if I don't, the press certainly will." John said while he gave his sister a kiss on the cheek, rubbing her shoulder while he hoisted his bag on his shoulder.

"Thank you, Johnny, but don't worry about it. Good luck, and have fun. Say goodbye to daddy and mummy, Michael." Julie said while she waved one of Michael's hands at his parents who both gave him kisses before corralling their remaining three children and heading out the door.

"Eddie, quit pulling your sister's hair, or there'll be no ice cream for you later." Valerie warned, prompting Eddie to immediately stop tugging Mary June's braids.

"Oh, mummmm, you can't do that," Eddie whined, grabbing onto Valerie's hand while John picked up Michael in his car seat.

"I'm your mom, of course I can."

"This is why I like dad better," Eddie mumbled, and John stifled a laugh while the family made their way outside to the car.

Valerie shot John a look, looking behind her at Elena, who was giggling.

"Is dad your favourite too, Elena?" She asked her daughter while John made tried to get his two younger children into the car.

"You get in the car, too, Juney. And Eddie, please quit throwing the rocks." John begged his son while Eddie stomped into the car.

"I'll never admit it," Elena said while Mary June buckled her seatbelt.

"Unbelievable. I'm here with you all the time, how can you not like me?" Valerie asked while she made sure Eddie was strapped in. He was being rather stubborn that morning.

"Well, that's why, because you're with then all the time." John replied, laughing with Valerie flicked his hand, making Eddie and Mary June laugh loudly.

"No ice cream for you either," Valerie teased John, the two of them sharing a smile while they finished strapping their kids and sitting in the seat.
*****

"My mini Elton!" Elton John exclaimed, ignoring the cameras snapping pictures while he scooped up his honorary niece Elena in his arms.

He often called her 'Elton' as a poke of fun towards Valerie and John who - for whatever reason - didn't name their daughter after him.

"How've you been? Lord, you're getting too heavy for my unfit self," Elton told Elena, while he gave her rounded cheeks affectionate kisses before setting the nine year old down.

"I'm not that heavy, Uncle Elton!" Elena giggled seemingly either unaware or used to the cameras that Elton tried desperately to shoo away.

"Have you been enjoying the show? Excited to see your dad play?" Elton asked while Valerie brushed back Elena's bright red hair from her face.

"I see him play all the time. I'm excited to see you play." Elena said, and Elton gave a loud laugh while he ruffled her hair, making her laugh as well.

"Good girl! There's a little surprise for you when I'm performing that I'm sure you'll like." Elton said while he greeted Valerie with a tight hug.

"Where's the other ones?" He asked while Elena waltzed into his trailer to greet Bernie.

"We left Michael at home,  but Eddie and Mary June are with the band. Mary June wanted to stay with Roger because she has a crush on Felix." Valerie said with a laugh while she watched Elena play one of her schoolgirl handclap games with Bernie.

"It's been too long, Valerie. I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever,"

"We talked on the phone the other day!"

"Oh, I know, but it's been ages since we've gone out. I miss you. Reckon you're rather busy with work and the kids, though," Elton admitted while he and Valerie sat in the chairs that sat outside his trailer.

Every artist and band that was playing had their own trailer, and so they were mingling with one another - drinking and talking and having their pictures taken or interviews done. Valerie had never seen so many musicians in one place acting so amicably. She thought there'd be a lot of conflict with egos,  like John had said there would,  but that wasn't the case at all.

"I am, but now that John's home, and it's the summer, I've got more time on my hands," Valerie said, ignoring the camera flash that blinded her momentarily.

"But please do call me up if you ever want to go out. I need a night away every once in a while," Valerie said, and Elton gave her a knowing nod.

"I know how tiresome kids can be. You're doing a good job,  though. You're a great mother," Elton complimented, to which Valerie gave a soft smile.

      "Thank you," she said modestly.

"Honestly you are," Elton said while he took a sip from the water that had been resting on the arm of his chair. "Do you want to have more?"

"More kids?" Valerie asked, and Elton snorted with laughter.

"No, love, more elephants. Well of course more kids!"  Elton exclaimed, chuckling while Valerie nudged his arm.

"I don't know. I think four is quite enough. John and I are both very happy. I didn't think I could ever love anyone so much in my life, but then my kids came along." Valerie said with a smile while Elena came back out of the trailer, beaming.

"The Dire Straits have just started," she said, and Valerie checked her watch.

"Queen is going on soon, yeah?"  Elton asked while he stood, offering his hand to Valerie so that she could get up with more ease.

Excitedly, Elena practically had to be held back by Valerie as the two of them and Elton walked to Queen's trailer.

"Has she met George yet?" Elton asked, most likely referring to George Michael.

"Not yet. I didn't think it was polite to stop by Wham!'s trailer and ask to take a picture."

"Oh nonsense. David was telling me how so many other artists or their wives have stopped by to ask for autographs. Don't feel embarrassed." Elton said with a grin while they weaved through many reporters and PAs.

"What about you? Lots of people?" Valerie asked, and Elton nodded, apologizing to one of the reporters he ran in to.

"Valerie!" A small, familiar voice shouted. It was the five year old Felix Taylor bumbling through the crowd towards them.

"Felix, hi babe!  Where's your dad, are you out here all alone?" Valerie asked while she picked up little Felix Taylor, looking through the crowd that was now starting to disperse.

Out from the crowd came a very distressed looking Roger in a white shirt. He sighed with relief when he spotted Valerie.

"Felix, mummy and I asked you not to run off," Roger said while he ruffled his son's hair, a smile spreading on his face. "Hello, Val. Fancy seeing you," Roger said while he planted a kiss on Valerie's cheek.

"Where've you been all day? I stopped by earlier to say hi to you and Brian, but you weren't here." Valerie said while Roger greeted Elton.

"We were sitting with Princess Diana and a few other artists. Freddie, John, Payton, and Dom have been watching the kids." Roger said while he took Felix from Valerie's arms and bounced him around.

"You met Princess Di?" Valerie asked, her eyes widening.

She admired Princess Diana and her style; everyone who knew Valerie knew how much she loved Princess Diana.

"I got a picture for you. And I put a good word in. Don't worry, Val,  I've got your back." Roger said with a wink, and Valerie's face broke into a grin.

Elton, Roger, and Valerie stood around talking for a while longer before Roger decided to take Felix back to the trailer so that he and the band could have their last minute pep talk before the show started.

"Did John meet her,  too?" Valerie asked referring to Princess Diana. Roger shook his head.

"He said he would be too nervous. He didn't want to embarrass himself."  Roger said, setting Felix down as they came up to the trailer where Payton and Dominique were sitting outside with the kids alongside Mary and David,  and Freddie with a man whom Valerie had never seen before.

"Ah, Valerie, there you are!" Freddie said, as if he hadn't seen her just two hours before when she'd watched Sting and Phil Collins perform. Before Eddie had woken up from his nap.

"Hello, Freddie," Valerie said warmly while she allowed Freddie to wrap an arm around her waist and plant a kiss on the top of her head. "Who's this?" She asked, startling slightly when Eddie came over and clung to her leg.

"Valerie, this is my boyfriend Jim. Jim, this is my best friend, Valerie." Freddie said, and the man called Jim extended his hand to Valerie, who shook it, giving him a huge grin.

"I thought I was your best friend," John said while he came out of the trailer with Mary June in his arms.

"You thought wrong, John," said Freddie, and Jim gave a laugh.

"Freddie's actually talked a lot about you. I feel like I know you already." Jim said in his brusque Irish accent.

"You'd be surprised how many times I've heard that since I've known Freddie." Valerie said with a laugh, and Jim shook his head, laughing with her. Freddie, who was now sitting down with Felix and Dominique, nodded.

"Are you Irish, too? I might be mistaken," Jim said, and Valerie nodded.

"I am. My father was Irish. My mother is Mexican, and we lived in South America for a while,  so my accent is kinda muddled. As you can tell." Valerie replied,  and Jim nodded, smiling as he tucked his hands into his pockets.

Valerie and Jim bonded over their shared Irish roots for the next few minutes before it was just about time to perform. Freddie urged Mary, David,  and Jim to go ahead and get some spots in the wings.

"Should we got with Aunt Payton?" Mary June asked, her big gray eyes gazing up at Valerie as she took the seat that Payton had been sitting in.

"No, love, I just want to wish your dad good luck and then we can go watch the show." Valerie said while Mary June sat in her mom's lap, her head of brown hair resting on Valerie's chest.

"You're waiting for Rog?" Valerie asked Dominique who was playing Rock Paper Scissors with Felix.

"Yes, he probably doesn't need it, but I wanted Felix to wish him good luck,"

       "What about you?"

"I just said he didn't need it," Dominique replied sarcastically, the two women laughing while the door to the trailer swung open.

Out came Freddie first with Brian, followed by Roger, who headed over to Dominique and Felix once he spotted them, a smile spreading on his face.

John came out last, fluffing up his hair even more as Eddie ran over to give him a hug.

"You're still here?" John asked with a smile while Valerie passed along Mary June to him. Eddie, who was bouncing excitedly on the ground,  fell over. Luckily,  he wasn't a crier, and simply giggled as Valerie picked him up.

"Well, of course, love. Couldn't leave without wishing you good luck," Valerie said while John gave his daughter a kiss on the cheek.

"Oh, course not. Are you excited to see me and the band play, Juney?" John asked, and Mary shook her head, hiding her face behind her hands. John laughed.

"No?!" He exclaimed, tickling Mary June with the hand that wasn't holding her,  making his daughter shriek with laughter.

"I see you play all the time!" Mary exclaimed through her raucous giggles. Valerie was smiling fondly.

"Ah, not like this. And maybe later, when everyone is singing that Christmas song you like, mum and I will take you onstage." John said while Mary June gave excited claps.

"Really?"

"Well, yeah. Are you excited now?" John asked, and Mary gave an exclamation that John took to mean yes.

"Hey, can I go too?" Eddie whined from Valerie's arms, thrashing slightly and causing Valerie to almost lose her grip of the stubborn toddler.

"You can't go if you have a head injury, Eddie. Ya paralé con eso." Valerie said while she held the back of Eddie's head with her hand as he tossed around again.

"He's like the girl from the Exorcist," John said while Freddie came over and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"It's time to go, we're about to go on," he said, and John nodded. "Elena, kiss for good luck?" Freddie asked while kneeling down to Elena's height.

It was a tradition that had been formed when Elena was two and was taken to her first Queen concert. She didn't remember it, but any concert she went to, Freddie always asked for a kiss on the cheek. He claimed it made him sing better, but he did that for Elena's sake.

And so Elena obliged with the kiss, making Freddie smile his adorable toothy grin. "Thank you, darling. Now tell your dad to hurry up, we go on in four minutes," Freddie said while glancing between John and Valerie, who was still struggling to control Eddie.

"Alright, behave for mummy, please, Eddie. I'll blow you a kiss onstage, how's that?" John said while he placed a hand on Eddie's back to stop him from moving around.

"Dance for me, too. Like you dance at home with mummy!" Eddie exclaimed, and John laughed.

"Okay," he said, ruffling Eddie's brown hair. "For you, I will. But behave," John said, not noticing how Eddie had reacted because he'd now turned all of his attention towards Valerie, shifting Mary June in his arms so he could give his wife a proper kiss.

"You're going to do great, I promise. And you heard Eddie," Valerie said, and John rolled his eyes while Valerie patted his chest. "Dance for me too." She said with a grin, kissing his cheek and ruffling his hair.

John set Mary June down, and she was immediately right at her mother's hip. "Alright, kids, let's go sit with Aunt Payton and Dom." Valerie said as she wished everyone else good luck and began to walk off with the kids.

"Dancing? So that doesn't just happen when you're drunk onstage?"

"Shut up, Rog." John muttered, blushing.

"What? I think it's cute," Roger said with a smile as he nudged John while he and the rest of the band started to walk through the crowd of people backstage towards the main stage where they would be performing in just a few minutes.

Valerie had arrived just in time to see the band appear from the curtains. They had been announced the moment she took her spot by Payton, smiling as Freddie trotted out from the curtains.

"Excited to watch them?" Valerie asked Jim, who happened to be right next to her, smiling down at Mary June who had bumped into his legs.

"Oh, yes, I am. You know, this is my first time seeing them perform live?" Jim said while Freddie sat at the piano and played a few chords.

"Really?" Valerie asked, and Jim nodded while Valerie adjusted Eddie in her arms. She and John shared a look before he turned back to the crowd before him. "Well,  Jim, you are in for a treat."

And at that moment, Freddie started the first few notes of Bohemian Rhapsody. The crowd went insane.

It was unlike any crowd that Valerie had ever heard before. The noise, though, didn't cut through the power of Freddie's voice. Instead, they joined in to sing Bohemian Rhapsody.

Glancing down the row of people in the wings, Valerie could see Mary tear up. She knew exactly why. Mary had been with Freddie since the beginning; since before his dream of being a legend had come true.

And now this performance alone would leave Freddie the legacy he'd always wanted.

"Mama, ooh. Didn't mean to make you cry..." Freddie sang into the microphone, glancing out at the crowd of people momentarily before turning back to the piano.

The crowd didn't overpower Freddie, they in fact added to the singing. And when Brian's guitar solo came on, the audience's voices dissolved into cheers once again.

Valerie turned to Payton, who was standing next to her, and two of them shared smiles as their kids were dancing together.

The end of the guitar solo segued into Radio Gaga, and Valerie could hardly contain her excitement. She loved the song possibly even more than Felix did.

"Val, look," Payton said, nudging Valerie and pointing out to the crowd. Valerie had been so distracted by singing along and watching Brian and John that she hadn't looked out at the audience.

In the sea of people, every single person had their hands raised and they were clapping their hands along to the song.

"Freddie looks so proud."  Payton noted while she absently clapped her hands along to the song. She'd heard it so much it was practically engraved in her brain.

"He does," Valerie replied, still nodding her head to the beat while Freddie began to prance onstage again.

"You've had your time, you've had the power. You've yet to have your finest hour. Radio!" Valerie and Payton sang to each other, laughing at the horridness of their singing that was thankfully covered up by Freddie and the crowd.

As the song came to a close, Freddie made his way to the front of the stage, planting himself directly in front of the crowd.

"Ay-oh!" He called out to the crowd. There was hardly a moment's hesitation before the crowd responded. Valerie felt a smile growing on her face as she sang along with the crowd.

As Freddie sustained one of his Ay-Oh's, beside Valerie, Jim's jaw dropped, and Mary was laughing, wiping away tears from her eyes.

As the crowd sang back to him, John shook his head in disbelief, his mouth barely moving as he sang along with the people. He was in awe.

        "All right!" Freddie shouted, smiling.

"All right!" The crowd repeated in unison, and Freddie wasted no time in starting the next song.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Hammer to Fall!" He exclaimed, and Elena jumped around excitedly while  Brian began to play the famous opening chords of the song.

Elena, who had previously been too embarrassed to dance around backstage because of all of the crew members around, let go of her worries and jumped around to the song, singing breathlessly along with Freddie.

"Are you glad you came, now?" Valerie asked, glancing at Jim who was grinning from ear to ear.

"Oh, definitely. I knew they were good, but not this good." Jim replied while Hammer to Fall came to a close, and the rest of the band ended up around the drum risers.

Next thing Valerie knew, Freddie was getting a guitar.  He rarely played it, so beside her, Payton was looking surprised.

"Not everyday that Fred plays guitar," she commented while she settled Jimmy on her hip, bouncing him lightly while she wiped a light sheen of sweat from her face. She'd been dancing with Jimmy to Hammer to Fall.

The moment that Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Valerie and John shared a look. This was the song Eddie had been talking about; the one that Valerie and John always danced to around the house.

Valerie raised her eyebrows at him, and he rolled his eyes, containing his laughter while he and Brian glanced at each other before the music took a pause before starting again, so many people in the crowd clapping along.

John did not disappoint with the dance moves. Throughout the whole song, he was bopping around and spinning onstage so much so that he'd made Roger burst out in laughter. Lucky for Roger, no one could see him behind the drums.

"Your husband's quite the dancer." Jim commented once the song had finished and John had given Valerie another look. He was laughing, not even trying to hide it anymore.

"And he's sober. Normally he doesn't dance like that until he's had a couple of drinks."  Valerie replied, and Jim laughed.

"Aye, I'm the same way. Absolutely rubbish at dancing until I've got a few drinks in. And even then,  I'm still rubbish." Jim said with a shrug.

It then seemed like the whole stadium shook with the 'stomp, stomp, claps' of the crowd as We Will Rock You began to play.

It seemed to go by in a blur; Valerie didn't even realize how fast the concert had gone by until Freddie was back at the piano.

"Awww, done already?" Mary June whined. She'd been having the time of her life; she was sweating up a storm, and she was flushed a deep red from having sung and danced so much.

"No, they're singing one more song, see?" Valerie said, pointing to Freddie who was poised to start playing the piano.

No sooner had Valerie spoken, Freddie launched into the signature intro to We Are The Champions.

There was an odd sense of melancholy while Freddie began to sing the song, Valerie and Payton had their arms wrapped around each other while they sang along, belting the chorus as loud as they dared.

Valerie didn't even notice the tears in her eyes until one made its way down her cheek. Hurriedly,  she wiped it away.

She was simply so proud of the band and all they had accomplished. And now, Wembley stadium,  singing not just to these people but to thousands around the world. Truly, they were legends.

"....Of the world!" Freddie finished, sustaining the note as long as his breath would allow him while he took a bow before the people.

The cheering of the crowd was deafening as the rest of the band went up to join Freddie in their bows. All four of them were smiling widely as they wrapped their arms around each other's shoulders and waved to the crowd.

"So long and goodbye," Freddie said, pausing as he waved to the crowd. "We love you!" He shouted, the four band members walking off to the shouts and cheers of the thousands of people in Wembley.

"Go on, that way. Let's go say hi to dad," Valerie whispered, wiping away at her face again while she ushered her kids in the direction in which the band would be coming off the stage.

"Daddy!"  Eddie shouted while he ran up to John, who was one of the first to come off the stage, hot and smiling.

"Eddie, hello! Did you enjoy the show?"  John asked while he picked up his son, moving out of the way as the rest of the band came off stage.

Everyone started to walk back towards the trailer, getting out of the way of the crew who would begin setting up for the next band.

"You danced for me," Eddie said, and John laughed.

"Yes, I did. Just for you," he said, glancing at Valerie. He wasn't able to talk to her until the finally reached the trailer and they were out of everyone's way.

       "Were you crying?"

       "No,"

"That's a big lie. She was. Sobbing." Payton said, patting Valerie's shoulder as she and Brian passed,  hand in hand,  heading into the trailer.

"Payton's the one lying. She can't be trusted." Valerie said while she set Mary June down and allowed her and Eddie to run around with the rest of the kids on the little turf of land the trailer occupied.

"No, I think you were crying. Why, Val?" John asked while he wrapped an arm around her waist.

"Because the performance was amazing. And because my somebody to love danced onstage. Just for me and Eddie."  Valerie said while she lightly caressed John's cheek.

"Oh, love, no need to get emotional about that. It's no big deal."  John said shyly, blushing slightly while Freddie and Roger passed by, beers in hand.

"It is a big deal, though. All four of you are legends."

"I don't know about the rest of them," Freddie said, catching Valerie and John's attention. He was practically beaming.  "But I am a bloody legend, darling."  Freddie said,  toasting John and Valerie with a cheeky grin.

John rolled his eyes,  him and Freddie sharing a laugh before he turned back to Valerie, leaning down to give her a hug and whisper in her ear.

"Now, he may be a legend," John said, kissing Valerie's cheek as he stood up straight and began to lead her into the trailer. "But I'll always be your somebody to love."
