Chapter 6 - Silverpaw
Β Β Β Β Silverpaw woke at the crack of dawn, when the sunlight poured into the cavernous chamber.
She eased herself out of the nest made of feathers and almost instantly fell.
Silverpaw glared at her right foreleg that was covered with cobwebs.
It was extremely sore and she tried not to yelp when she put pressure on it.
The white and silver she looked back at Moon, who was in a deep sleep.
She's done so much for me...When I find a way out I'll go get her, Silverpaw promised herself as she limped down from the ledge and journeyed into the array of tunnels.
The tunnel she chose was wide and tall and she liked how spacious it was.
It was slightly darker than the area Silverpaw was just in.
She treaded through the dust and her foreleg ached so badly that she needed to stop a couple times.
"I need to exercise this," Silverpaw mumbled to herself, looking around to find anything useful.
She then looked up and noticed a small tuft of grass dangling from the ceiling.
"Ok I can jump that high. I can tear that plant right out!" she paused and then meowed, "Why am I talking to myself?"
The tabby took a deep breath and leapt as high as she could.
Her claws barely touched the bit of grass and she came crashing down.
When she hit the ground and let out a cry of pain.
Her shoulder was on fire!
The black striped apprentice heard rushing paw steps and Moon appeared.
"Silverpaw are you ok?!" Moon gasped as she dashed over to the she-cat.
"I'm fine, Moon. I was just trying to stretch out my foreleg," the teal eyed cat tried to reassure her friend.
"Well you're not doing a very good job!" Moon snorted.
The vixen paused and then said, "Why did you go out in the tunnels alone? You can lost easily down here."
"I was trying to find a way out. I'm sorry Moon. I was going to come get you if I found a way-" Silverpaw tried to explain but Moon interrupted.
"Silverpaw there's no way out! I tried for three seasons!" the fox cried to the apprentice.
"Well maybe you just weren't looking hard enough," meowed Silverpaw, stubbornly refusing to give up.
Moon sighed. "C'mon I can give you a tour later. Right now let's go back to our nest and I'll catch us breakfast."
Silverpaw was about to protest when she heard a rumbling sound.
Moon heard it as well, for she perked her ears towards the strange noise.
At first, the tabby thought it was some sort of monster.
But as it grew louder, Silverpaw realized that was no type of monster at all.
It was water.
A huge wave of stream water crashed down threw the tunnel, reaching almost to the top.
"Oh just fantastic..." Moon said sarcastically, her eyes filled with terror.
The apprentice's screams were drowned out by the roaring flood.
"RUN!" Moon yelled but Silverpaw was already several steps ahead, sprinting for her life.
The fox dashed up besides her and without warning, picked Silverpaw up by her scruff and tossed the she-cat onto her back.
The swirling rapids were catching up to them and Moon yelled, "Hold your breath!"
"Huh?" Silverpaw began but then was instantly doused in water.
She still held on tightly to the vixen's back as Moon paddled to the surface.
Both of their heads emerged and they gasped for air the water still sweeping them away.
Moon then swam as hard as she could and grasp her claws onto a small ledge.
Silverpaw had an idea and crawled from Moon's back to the ledge.
After, she helped the red furred fox up and they both collapsed, panting heavily.
"I...hate...water," Moon gasped and Silverpaw was face down in the muck, too overwhelmed to nod.
