Chapter 4 - Lionwing
Β Β Β Bright sunlight flickered into the warriors den, causing Lionwing to blink open his eyes sleepily.
He sighed and got up from his warm nest, lined with soft feathers.
Lionwing trotted outside the warriors den, trying to shield his amber gaze from the blinding sun.
"Good morning, Lionwing," a voice purred.
The tom jumped at the mew and turned around to face Flowertail.
"Oh uh h-hi Flowertail," he said anxiously.
"How are you?" she asked sweetly.
A/NΒ
Just letting u guys know Flowertail is NOT sweet at all. She's putting up a show for Lionwing but her real personality is snappy, cold, and sarcastic.
Ok sry about that! U may continue reading :3
"Fine," he lied.Β
He was never completely fine.
"Well, alright. So I was wondering if you wanna go hunting with me. The fresh-kill pile is dwindling," the tan and red she blinked, drawing slightly closer.
Lionwing took a step back, thinking about the offer.
I never liked her when we were apprentices but we are full grown warriors now! I'm sure she changed, his mind said determinedly.
"Sure...I am pretty hungry for breakfast," Lionwing mewed, nodding.
"Great, lets head out then."
The golden tom could hear a purr rumbling in her throat and he tried his best to ignore it.
I don't like her that way. Period.Β
Lionwing glanced at Flowertail, who was padding towards the fern tunnel, and she was beckoning him to follow in almost a friendly way.
But would it be so bad if I did?
The leaves crumbled beneath his paws as he treaded through ThunderClan territory with Flowertail.
Flowertail was chatting with him and Lionwing was surprisingly having a good time.
Then they both perked their ears to a caw of a crow that was in a nearby tree.
"You can get it! We both know you're the best tree climber," she said in a tone almost too nice.
"Alright," he meowed, focusing on the black feathered bird.
Lionwing dug his long claws into the bark of the oak tree and made his up up to the branch the crow was perched on.
He then stalked the crow on the branch and pounced, killing it with a squeeze of his jaws.
"Nice one!" Flowertail called up to him.
"Thanks!" he responded back.
Later Flowertail caught a mouse and they were heading back.
The two cats padded through the entrance to camp and dropped their prey into the fresh-kill pile.
"Thank you for hunting with me, Lionwing. I'd love to do this again sometime," the red pawed she smiled.
"Uh..yeah" he stuttered.
"See ya later then," Flowertail mewed before walking off.
Lionwing gazed after her then shook his head.
No I definitely don't like her.Β
I-I think.
It was sunhigh already and he noticed Fawnpelt sprinting up to him, happiness and affection filling her amber gaze.
"Lionwing! You'll never guess what happened!" she beamed.
"What?" he asked curiosity bubbling up inside him.
"Hawksong is my mate!" she cried joyfully.
"Wait what?! Really? Thats amazing, sis! I'm so happy for you!" Lionwing grinned, leaping up.
"I still can't believe it! It's crazy! I have a mate!" Fawnpelt mewed.
"And it's Hawksong!" he laughed, still shocked that Hawksong and his sister worked out.
Fawnpelt and Lionwing picked up some prey and starting sharing tongues.
"So what have you been doing today, bro?" she asked him, tearing off a piece of her thrush.
"Oh nothing really. Flowertail and I went hunting and-"
Fawnpelt choked on a feather. "You went hunting with Flowertail!"
"Well...yeah she invited me and I was hungry so..." Lionwing said, flattening his ears slightly.
"Lionwing! What have I told you about her! She's a bad apple!" Fawnpelt exclaimed.
"You still have issues with her? Fawnpelt we were apprentices!" he argued.
"But she hasn't changed! She's still a snob and she still has eyes only for you!"
Lionwing sighed. "I thought she was different."
"Look, brother, I just don't want you hanging out with her. I don want her to influence or hurt you," the brown she with white spots looked at him sadly.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled.
"Don't apologize. I just want you to stay you. The kind, funny, brave brother I know. Just be careful, ok?" she stood up and went over to Hawksong.
Lionwing thought long and hard about what his sister just explained to him.
I really thought Flowertail was different. But maybe she's the same rude apprentice on the inside. And maybe I'm just too foolish to see.
