Seventeen years later...
Geko sighed and rolled over in his bed. "Mrrrr. I don't want to get up."
"Wakey wakey, Mom's cooking breakfast," Amethyst grunted, poking Geko again.ย
Now Geko was interested. His ears pricked and he cracked open one eye, glaring at his older sister. "Which one?" He asked. The last time Dewdrop made breakfast, they were celebrating Chamomile's engagement and her fiancรฉe had to pour a bucket of water over the stove to stop the entire house from burning down.ย
Both Geko and Amethyst had laughed so hard that Amethyst had been worried she would crack a rib. "Dawn's cooking breakfast. I don't think Cyan will be letting Dewdrop cook for a long time."
Geko rolled onto his back and stretched. He yawned loudly and opened his eyes, wincing at the sunlight pouring in through the open window. Dawn was allowed to cook way more often than Dewdrop because she was actually good at it. She put lots of thought into every meal she made, and the food always turned out delicious.ย
"Am I the last one awake?" He groaned, sitting up and rubbing his head.
"I think so," Amethyst said. "But Pomegranate did mention having to 'go and get up the girls'."
Geko laughed. He could imagine that it would be painful waking up Orange and Empathy every morning. Both sisters had fiery personalities and were practically inseparable. He couldn't even imagine the chaos that would happen when Dove stopped sleeping in Pomegranate and Flutterwings' room.
He could barely tolerate them as cousins, and couldn't imagine being their parents. He got up and stood next to his sister. "Then let's go."ย
They walked down the stairs, and the smell coming from the kitchen was absolutely heavenly. He walked up to where he saw one of his mothers, Dawn, hard at work. "What're you making?" He asked.ย
She raised an eyebrow. "Morning cakes," she replied.ย
"Morning cakes, are those just, like, pancakes?" Geko asked.ย
"No, they're called Morning Cakes. They were Papaya's recipe," Dawn explained. At Geko's blank face, she sighed. "My mother. We just found out that Flutterwing had been keeping it for years without realizing what it was. So I offered to test it."ย
"Because you're the best cook I know," Geko's other mother, Dewdrop, walked into the room from the open patio door. She walked up to Dawn and brushed some flour off of her cheek before kissing her.ย
Dawn's snout became lightly pink and Geko gagged. Dewdrop just winked at him and said "Looks like our sleepy one has finally awoken."ย
"I'm not the sleepy one! Just look at Dove," whined Geko.
"Honey, Dove is a three-year-old dragonet," Dewdrop pointed out.ย
"Hhmph," Geko said, lacking a better argument.
Dawn laughed. "Go outside. Your cousins will be outside soon."ย
Geko hurried outside. Cyan and Panda were already out there, sitting at the table with a serene expressions. Flutterwing was at the corner of the patio helping Dove climb up the play structure of the dragonet corner.ย
When Dove reached the top, she rolled onto her back and wiggled. Flutterwing laughed and scooped her up, just as Pomegranate stepped outside, followed by Orange and Empathy.ย
Orange had bright orange scales and four bat-shaped wings. Her secondary wings were slightly smaller than the average SilkWing, but that was expected, given that she was a hybrid. She had both antennae and ruffs behind her ears but only possessed venom.ย
Empathy had the exact same body as her sister and was almost exactly a year younger than her. Her scales were pale green with a white stomach. Her ruff was yellow, and her wings sails were the same yellow that faded to orange at the tips. She had silk, although it was weak and thin, often ripping almost instantly or barely forming.ย
The two looked so different and yet the exact same. Their younger sister, Dove, was a little different. She had white scales and a pale blue stomach. Her body was the same as her sisters except a lot smaller. Her ruffs were golden and her eyes were a sort of orange-gold color. She had a prehensile tail and ruffs, but no antenna. She still had four wings, however.
Dove was the only dragonet who had inherited Flutterwing's Flamesilk, in a way. Her wrists would often overheat, and although she hadn't started producing silk yet, her wrists would often secrete a boiling hot liquid.
Usually, Dove would wear wristbands around her wrists that would cool them, and today was no exception. Pomegranate smiled at Dove and said, "You're growing so big."ย
Dove giggled and reached toward her other mother, and Pomegranate took her from Flutterwing's arms. Geko turned toward his cousins. "Where are Chamomile and Mango?" he asked.
"I know Chamomile is with her husband," Orange said helpfully, sitting down at the table.ย
Empathy sat down next to her. "And Mango said she was going to be staying at her boyfriend's for a while."ย
"Ah," grunted Geko, sitting down as well. His sister, Amethyst, sat down next to him as the rest of the family filled the table.
Finally, Dawn stepped outside holding a tray laden with what appeared to be small white cakes. She put it on the table and disappeared inside for a moment before coming out holding two jars of jam. "Dig in," she said.ย
Geko took one of the cakes and examined it. It was small and looked like a sponge cake. He took a bite and his eyes widened. It tasted like vanilla and milk. The center was filled with a sweet jam. He glanced around and saw that he wasn't the only one enjoying his meal.ย
This was his favorite part of the day when everyone had just gathered to enjoy their meals before they disappeared to do their stuff. He loved his mothers with their sweet yet contrasting personalities that somehow managed to fit together perfectly.ย
He loved his sister and cousins, who while being a little annoying, were still his family. Dove was super cute, even though she had issues. And his only wanted this happy little moment to last foreverย

Make sure you stick around to read the acknowledgments, but yeah. This is it! Over a year of writing and here we are! Honestly, when I started this, it was a weird ass roleplay I was doing with my friends that I wanted to write down.
Now, over a year later, my writing style has improved so much, and I was able to write so much in this book! It will be edited, don't worry. The first few chapters are kind of shit, and so is the description.ย
If you were confused, don't worry. I'll also be doing a Q&A in the acknowledgments to answer any of your questions about this book. Yes, there will be a book two, I'm not sure when it will be coming out though.
I cannot thank you enough for all of your support on this book. All comments reads, and votes. (save my weird roleplay withย @takatakayasss)ย
Please vote, it helps me more than you think! :D
