Third Person's POV
A Rainy Day, Kiyose City, Tokyo, Japan
It's Monsoon time in Kiyose. How far your eyes can see are dark clouds surrounding all over the sky.
Grey clouds make the blue sky to hide it's face, sometimes it's starts drizzling or sometimes heavy rain.
It's kinda feels gloomy everywhere in Kiyose. But it's among the mankind, If you look at the nature around you, besides gloomy and feeling grey, you'll find the nature showing it's wide arms of greenery.
Everywhere in among the city the water droplets of rain on above the tree leaves making it looked like little diamonds.
As busy city of Tokyo metropolitan, Kiyose citizens also doing their usual stuffs, people are going to offices, schools and attending their own works...
Markets, Malls, little and huge all available stores are open. Along with the sounds of the two, four and six wheeled vehicles here's many types of umbrella will catch your eyes in the main road carried by the people.
Like there's many colours are showing their forms in the gloomy grey mood to make it colourful...
Here our two little children already grew to attend their primary school of Kiyose.
Yuri and Kanade both are in 4th grade and 9 years old. Both are in same class and studying together.
*******
"Ok bye Mama The rain has stopped", Yuri shouted while tying up her school shoe laces.
"Honey don't forget to take umbrella with you!", Mr Mahiru warned her daughter.
"Ya I've already done,", Yuri picked up her favourite red umbrella and showing it to her mother.
"Ok, but I wish if today was my piano class, we could go together", Mrs Aoi exclaimed.
"Aww Mama don't worry I'm already 9 years old *feels proud* and in our school we don't learn piano everyday so take it easy", Yuri winked at her mother saying 'Oh com'on I'm not a child anymore' . Mr Aoi just sighed at this.
"Ok Yuri whatever you want just stay safe while crossing road and be careful", Mrs Mahiru warned Yuri and went back inside of the apartment room to do her works.
"Ok Mama I'm out", saying this Yuri finished tieing up her shoe laces and about to put the red umbrella in her school bag but some voices came to her ears.
"Meow~", a little white kitten with blue eyes caught her attention. "Huh?", hearing the sound Yuri looked behind to notice that she'd left her apartment door half open before leaving the apartment as she was talking with her mother.
"Oh! How forgetful am I?", She stood up picking her school bag and placing it on her shoulder but forgot about the umbrella, it stayed on the floor untouched.
"Aww hello kitty", she closed the apartment door carefully behind her then come outside and kneeled down to pet the adorable white kitten. "Cute kitty", she awed.
"Nyan~", the kitten enjoying the petting. "Aw sorry kitty but I've to go, I've school, see ya~", Yuri bid goodbye to the kitten and climbed down the apartment stairs then left the apartment area.
Meanwhile the white kitten meow and went somewhere who knows where to mind on it's own business.
While at the road Yuri noticed that though the raining had stopped but the sky is still gloomy.
"I wonder when I'll able to see the sun", she shrugged her shoulder then took the path to her school, Kiyose City Primary School.
(Just think it's gloomy rainy day)
After reaching to her school she went to her respective room and took her seat.
"Where's Kana? Don't tell me she'll not come today also! She's not coming school from the previous weeks. I hope Grandma is doing fine...", She trailed off.
Her seat was right beside the window, the classroom was in 1st floor.
Yuri was lost in her thoughts but suddenly the school bell rang and broke her daydream.
"*Cring~* *Ding dong ding~*", it was the first warning bell before closing school gate to start the school schedule.
"Oh no it's already 8:30, she's late, please at least come today please", Yuri started praying for her best friend to come to school cause it'd been two week.
Ya Kanade was awkwardly absent for 4 days in previous week and after more 2 days Yuri told her parents about it then they talked with Kanade's parents and found out that Kosaka residence wasn't so in good condition.
Old lady Mamiko aka Kanade's grandmother was ill with some unknown disease that's being critical day by day.
Even the doctors couldn't find out exactly the cause of this and that's making her grandma more weak and lifeless.
Kanade was totally heartbroken cause the only one who was her treasure, her grandmother her favorite person in the world is in serious situation between life and death then how could be she happy!
She was staying with her all day and praying everything would be fine.
Yuri said about staying there and look after grandma along with the Kanade's family but Mr and Mrs Kosaka didn't want that, they said not to worry about it they'll manage everything with their own. So Yuri dropped the topic.
The Aoi family kept in contact with them through phone. But it's been 5 days they didn't responded Yuri's family so she's worried and anxious about what happened with them.
Yuri's POV
"~*Ding dong ding~*", *sounds of the school bell* "Oh No now the last bell also declared the starting of school hours. God please I'm very worried about Kana!", I bit my bottom lip.
The raining started heavily and I was about to close the classroom window beside me then I saw her coming to the school, but she looked different.
"Whoa Kana!?", I whispered and waited for her to come to the classroom.
Gladly our teacher wasn't come still yet, probably for this heavy rain. Kana had everything same but she'd cut off her beautiful long black hair and she's not looking so natural like she always does.
"Hey Kana! What happened? You never comes late in school?", I asked out but she didn't replied.
She quietly sat on her desk placing her school bag beside it and taking out her books.
"Hey why-", *classroom doors opened teacher entered* I was about to ask her more questions but cut out by our class teacher coming in.
"Good Morning Ma'am", we all greeted her standing up but though Kana stood up she didn't say anything that made me more worry.
"Good Morning students. Sorry for late actually I was stuck for the heavy rain and the train delayed the journey", our class teacher explained us the reason for her coming late.
"Ok so let's start today's lesson!", our teacher exclaimed. After that we all started our school hours with our respective classes and studies.
But I was eagerly waiting for the lunch time cause Kana wasn't even replying me and completely ignoring me for some reason behaving like I'm an unknown so it's better not to make a mess between classes and wait for the lunch time to see what the matter was.
~*At Lunch Time*~
School playground had covered with mud and felt damp so none of the students went there for playing around.
The heavy rainfall made all dull and bored so some of the students gathered around to play indoor or chatting with each other minding their own business.
"I feel so bored", I sighed after finishing up my meal and looked around the classroom to see half of students were in corridor and some of them in classroom eating.
Kana stayed silent while eating and didn't responded anyone who ever tried calling her. I finally got a chance.
"Hey Kana what happened to you? Why you're ignoring me in the whole school time and even responding anyone? Please tell me what are you going through? I'm so worried for you! And what about Grandma? Is she alright?", My last words might be surprised her cause she closed her eyes while trying to speak out but nothing came out from her mouth.
Then I saw her hands were clutching her desk tightly. "Uh! Please excuse me", she made her way to leave her desk and went out of the classroom left me speechless.
"WHAT?", I was totally shocked and about to ran after her but the bell rang declaring end of lunch time.
"Oh God why?", I gritted my teeth and stamped my feet on the floor. Ghaa why it was so hard?
Later I hardly managed to focus on my studies and when the school ended I became out of control, I looked outside seeing the heavy rainfall inviting us with pride and that also made me furious cause I'm so irritated by Kana's weird behaviour.
"Just some more time then you've to be caught up by me Kana! Take it", I muttered and exited the classroom as she already left before me, leaving me alone.
... Outside of the classroom at the school ends...
It's already afternoon and this gloomy weather and Kana both made me feeling sick.
"AHHH!! Please God help me", I shouted unexpectedly and the other students and teachers giving me weird looks that I totally ignored then left the corridor to find Kana who was standing like a lifeless doll. "HEY?", I grabbed both of her shoulders and started shouting at her.
"Kosaka Kanade! What is your problem with me? I really wanna know? What in the world I've done to you that you're giving me that look like talking with unknown?", I called her full name and shouted.
"Please leave me alone", she freed herself from my grasp and gave me a dull look, this thing broke my heart.
"Is this really you Kana?", Tears started rolling from the corner of my eyes and I hardly managed to stop sobbing around her.
"Why just why are you doing this? Am I not your friend? Am I unknown to you? What have I done? Please if you don't say anything how can I understand what's my fault? Com'on speak up? Are... We not Friends... Anymore?", I broke down crying.
"Huh!", This time she responded fully. "Look Yuri the matter is...", she started.
"What Yuri? You're the one who are ignoring me and anyway who am I to you? *Sob* Just your best friend? Are you forget what best friend really means?", I started crying loudly. Now Kana fully backed to herself she grabbed my hands.
"I'm... Sorry... I didn't want to ignore you but... But I just can't take it that... *Sob* that she's not with me anymore..", Kana managed to say while sobbing quietly.
"She?", I stopped crying and leaded her to the school garden and we both sat on the bench then I asked again,"Uh! She?..."
"Gr... Grandma... Is no more...", Kana hugged me tightly and started crying and believe me it was the first time I was seeing her crying this way.
The Kana I knew was so strong and bold personality that no-one had the opportunity to deceive her. This Kana was totally broken.
"Shh! I'm sorry for shouting at you this way. I'm really sorry for your loss", that time I was really out of words my lips were shaking to hear this horrible news. I hugged back and patted her head trying to make her calm.
Kanade's POV
A horrible incident for me pushed me hard to see the world with a new view without the side of my loved one.
4 days ago I lost my most favourite person in my life, my Grandma.
The one whom I loved, respected and relied on the most. The thing was she was old so leaving us normally would be normal or different but she died in a unknown disease. That's the thing I couldn't get in my mind.
Was our treatment wasn't enough? Was some other things existing without we noticed them. Could we want more improvement?
Could I do anything for it? Grandma wanted me to be the one who could make world a better place. What she really meant? Could I do it for her anyway?
I still remember the day she called us one by one to say something important to each of us.
But the thing she said me made me confused about the actual meaning of her statements. Ya I was lost in thought in front of my best friend.
"I really don't have any idea about that, I know it's not the right time for asking but it's making me feel horrible, please explain what happened in the past 2 weeks", I saw Yuri managed to say.
"Ya it'd been long days Grandma was ill. We were so worried about that so we called the doctor...", I continued while she gave me a assuring nod. I took a deep breath.
"...He said that he couldn't find the exact cause of her being ill that's strange and then he suggested us to take her to the hospital. We did and she stayed for one week but no use so they discharged her and said we all left to nothing but praying for her cause only the God knows what's in the future. We prayed day-night and took care of her everyday but 4 days ago... She passed away leaving us heartbroken", somehow I managed not to cry, Yuri patted my shoulder I felt a bit relaxing.
"But this thing only giving me one clue that Grandma had known that her time was coming to an end so the day before she left the world she called me alone in the previous night. She also called Dad and Mom privately while I was waiting outside. After they come outside they gave me a look to enter and I went running and hugged her tightly, she patted my head and gave a weak smile and said..."
"... She said, 'Kana the only thing I want to see you happy, stay strong my girl and take care of your mom-dad and Yuri. Said Yuri I've sent blessings for her. Kana one thing I should say to satisfy yourself you can do one thing in purpose "Make this world a better place to live and survive by giving a new life to the one who deserves it'. She smiled"...
"I asked,"Grandma what do you exactly mean by 'Make this world a better place to live and survive by giving a new life to the one who deserves it' ? Uh this I can't understand", I asked her..."...
"...She replied me,"When you'll find your purpose for living this beautiful life you'll understand". "I'll surely do Grandma!", I nodded and saw she closed her eyes for resting"...
I noticed that she wanted me to leave so I was turning back but she called me for one more time "Ya one last time"... "then you can go"..."Always protect the one whom you love, don't forget whatever it takes. And if someone left you don't worry cause everything happens for a reason to give you someone better than the one whom you love before so 'Treasure the special one who loves and cares about you the most' cause the only person who does will never leave you", she said... I nodded in agreement and left her room..." ...
"So Grandma tried to say many things that you are finding answers right? But I guess she was right you'll find the answers in right time. Don't worry I'm with you whenever you needs me okay", Yuri gave me a genuine smile.
While flashback of Grandma's words came to my head 'Treasure the special one who loves and cares about you the most'... Did she meant?...
"Whoa look at those", Yuri's sudden outburst broke my thoughts, I blinked and noticed her.
She found a big leaf who knows from where uh... Probably the school garden and playing with the water while shading herself under the garden big trees. Gosh it's still raining the wild girl could get sick! "Yuri!", I called her.
"HEY! Silly girl come back here it's still raining!", I shouted but who cares, like she's lost in her fantasy world and I was the reader reading the book of her adventure.
"Kana come here", she pulled me towards her oh gosh I was also got soaked for this little crazy girl.
"Naa Yuri I'll inform to Aunt Aoi if you don't listen me", then as you know me I started giving lectures.
"Whooo~", but nothing went to her ears. "It's so amazing!", She cheered and splash the big leaf into another tree and the droplets scattered into the ground looking little pieces of diamond and I was fascinated by the scenery.
"Kana!", I looked at Yuri seeing her calling my name. "Yes?", I asked.
"Do you remember this?", She showed her right hand and I recognised the both bracelets. One was her own creation and the other one was gifted from Grandma.
"This two! How can I forget?", I showed her my two bracelets also. We two made them touching each others and in the rain they were shinning.
"Though I hadn't any connection of blood with Grandma but she always made me feel like home and I felt I was spending time with my Grandpa and I felt so safe with her.
One thing common in them they wanted to see us happy so that's why I always smile to keep their word which I respect", Yuri looked directly at me with her beautiful sparkling sapphire blue eyes filled in enthusiasm and determination.
Then she took a deep breath and started humming some rhythm uhh it sounded familiar oh I remembered what she was humming.
It's a song we loved to sing together in rainy days with our favourite umbrellas. Yup me and Yuri both had similar red umbrellas.
She started singingβ
"From the sky drops the rain
Do you think it can subdue the pain?
From beneath that red umbrella
Will the sound of the droplets tell you?
That I'm here...
Just right here..."
I joined her also-
"It can't be what have I done?
After it all this game wasn't very fun
It's my mistake and I'm really sorry
But it's alright you don't have to worry
About me...
It's okay..."
We both-
(I'm using bold italic for both. Kanade- free , Yuri- in bracket)
"When you see me again (When you say me once again) (Don't think that I'm a friend) (It's me without a soul)
I give you one request (The me that caused it all)
Please don't think I'm a friend (Forget me and Forget us) (Forget what ever was) (Be with those who give you love)
That's my only request (And just stop thinking of)
All the pain, all the wounds I've caused you (Me...)
All the small happy memories with you (Me...)
Let them be washed away (But always keep in your heart) (That even though we're apart) (You'll always be my best friend)
By small droplets of rain (In every time and end)..."
After we finished singing we smiled at each other and I felt bad for ignoring her earlier.
"I know, I'm sorry for behaving like that in earlier actually I just can't take all the things that happened in these previous days. But now I'm feeling fine. Thank you so much. Grandma was right about you, you're precious please don't ever let yourself change for anyone cause I love you as you really are", I didn't know if she understood everything but she grinned happily to answer my statement. "Sure", she smiled.
"A promise of a life time... Together you and I will always be friends for life"...
Third Person's POV
After that Kanade was feeling so relaxed cause the things bothering her were vanished how she didn't know but the clouds were cleared up from her head.
Suddenly Yuri looked panicked and shouted,"Uhh I forgot to took my umbrella! Oh God now how I'm gonna return home? If Mama see me returning back while soaked in rain fully, she'll scold me". "Haha classic Yuri", Kanade softly smiled at Yuri's clumsiness.
"Rain rain go away come some another day, rain rain go away come some another day", Yuri started muttering those like rain would shoo away hearing her, she pouted finding out it's not working anymore.
"Aww it's still raining but don't worry I've my umbrella what about I give you a lift?", Kanade winked at her showing her red umbrella. Yes it's Kanade who never forgets anything.
"Thanks Kana", Yuri thanked. "Whoa that's fantastic Yuri look!", Kanade caught her attention. "Whoa!", She noticed.
"So beautiful!", They both muttered in awe. They saw there was a beautiful rainbow created at the riverside far away from their school actually the road towards their houses.
The riverside clouds had cleared up a little bit so there raining had already stopped but here, Ya it was still raining but just a light drizzle but then Kanade thought to open the umbrella
"Kana you remember our promise which we'd made 2 years ago in your home in the Christmas party?", Yuri asked. "Yes of course", Kanade said recalling that beautiful speech.
"A promise of a lifetime... Together you and I will always be friends for life~", they exclaimed together.
"Let's go Yuri to the rainbow", Kanade offered her hand and which Yuri took with pleasure and they both enjoyed the view together while heading to their home holding each others hands enjoying the peaceful moment.
And the rainbow also shined in it's 7 colours giving company to the lonely blue sky filling with it's colours and embracing the beauty.
Like the sky and the rainbow also smiled at each other enjoying each others company...
What does a rainbow mean to you? A rainbow is often a sign of hope, the beauty after the storm, a pot of gold and good fortune at the rainbow's end.
For many, a rainbow carries a personal symbolic meaning- representing inclusivity and diversity, an all embracing image of love and friendship...
