Queen Visenya spoke nothing about the incident in Driftmark. It scared the king. Aegon her eldest had been betrothed to his twin. It had been their request. The night his brother lost his eye was the day he swore he would take the crown to keep his family safe from the claws of his elder sister. Helaena was betrothed to Cregan Stark. Her sister Rhaella was betrothed to Qoren Martell as her mother flew to Dorne to form an alliance herself. Maegor had been betrothed to Arianna Tyrell. Aemond had been betrothed to Cassana Baratheon. Daeron was betrothed to Tessa Greyjoy, oddly enough the two made a fine pair. His twin was betrothed to Henry Tully. Visenya had made her allies all over the Realm without anyone else knowing. Rhaenyra had only two houses by her side. House Velaryon and House Arryn from her mother's side.
Six years had passed. As Visenya predicted, Laenor was "killed" the next day but the queen had her little birdies that told her everything. Like how Laenor was alive just away from Westeros. She would keep that to herself as the boy had been through enough with Rhaenyra. She brought Otto Hightower back. She had married Alicent to Jason Lannister, having not only the Lannister's on her side but the Hightower's too. As soon as they were of age, most of her children were married except for Daeron and Daenys. Of course, the weddings were kept very quiet, or rather away from Rhaenyra and her allies. When Vaemond showed up to court about an audience Visenya knew it would not end well. For him.
The court had gathered. Her family had grown, she had given king Viserys eight children. Four sons and four daughters. Now, her children had children of their own. She was a grandmother of nine. Aegon and Aelora had three children. Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor. Cregan and Helaena had two, Brandon and Lyarra. Rhaella and Qoren had two children Elia and Doran. Aemond had a one year old baby name Megora after his grandmother. Maegor had named his son Maegor after his great grandfather and himself.
The throne room was quiet as everyone began to walk in. Queen Visenya sat on the throne. People saw her as the definition of her namesake. She was looking at everyone in the room. On one side were the Blacks, Rhaenyra and her supporters and on the other the Reds, Visenya and her family. Lord Vaemond made his speech and all, the queen listened but said nothing. When Rhaenyra began to talk the king showed up to give his daughter his support. When Daemon was about to kill Vaemond she interrupted. Her sword clashing with Daemon's. "Not on this hall. With my grandchildren present" she spoke. "Disarm him!" Otto ordered but she shook her head no. "No need. My brother knows betters" she turned to face her brother. "Isn't that right, brother?" she asked and he nodded swallowing his anger before putting himself at risk. The room was quiet. "Everyone is dismissed" everyone bowed and left the room. Before helping Viserys she looked at Rhaenyra and her family. "You father wishes for the family to dine together. At eight. Do not be late" she said before walking away.
The table was set and the family had gathered. For once, the room was at peace. Rhaenyra and her family watched as her step mother and her half siblings entered the room. They were different. Aegon had grown tall since the last time she had him. Aelora too, they had walked in side by side, holding hands. Aemond, Helaena, Rhaella, Maegor, Daeron and Daenys walked in. Their husbands and wives were back in their homes, they would be arrive exactly the next day. The table was chatty and full of laughter. Rhaenyra could not stop looking at her family, the side that she never bothered to try and get to know. Visenya looked exactly like she did nearly two decades ago. She was young, she looked to be in her thirties, just like Rhaenyra. Yet after birthing eight children she remain a beauty, slimmer than most.
Daemon too kept glancing around. This was his family yet they all felt like strangers. "A prayer" the queen said as everyone got ready. The prayer was short but everyone tried to listen. Viserys gave his speech about family but Visenya care very little of it. The table got quiet after the speech. The king looked at his wife. Despite their differences Visenya stood by his side, she took care of him when he didn't want anyone to help him. She never left his side nor did he lay with another she remained loyal to her brother.
Rhaenyra made the first move. She stood up, grabbing her cup. "I wish to raise my cup to her grace the queen. I love my father. But I must admit that no one has stood... more loyally by his side than his good sister wife, my aunt Visenya. She has tended to him with... unfailing devotion, love and honor. And for that, she has my gratitude and my apology" she said while looking at Visenya. It was a honest speech, Visenya could see it. It was Visenya's turn. The queen stood up. "Your graciousness moves me deeply, princess" she began with a perfect smile. "We are both mothers and we love our children. We have more in common than we sometimes allow. I raise my cup to you and to your house" Rhaenyra drank from her cup. "May the Sevens bless and protect you" she finished a smirk. Daemon was fooled as well. That was a threat disguised as kind words.
Aelora stood. "I would like to toast to Baela and Rhaena. They'll be married soon. It's amazing. If he is the one he'll make you very happy" the young princess said as she looked at her husband with a love struck look on her face. Helaena, Rhaella, and Daenys raised their cups. "Cheers" the three sisters said to Aelora who raised her cup, Baela and Rhaena following. Everyone laughed. Otto applaud them. Her mother smiled at them. "Good girls" she said to them. "Let us have some music" the king said. "When will your other daughters marry?" Rhaenyra asked. "All my children are married, the only ones left are Daenys and Daeron. Their weddings will be soon" the queen replied. Daemon and Rhaenyra looked at each other in surprise. "They wanted private ceremonies" Rhaenyra's family was shocked, even the Velaryon girls. "Helaena is married to Cregan Stark, Rhaella to Qoren Martell. Aemond to Cassana Baratheon, Maegor to Arianna Tyrell. Daeron is to marry Tessa Greyjoy and Daenys Henry Tully" she smirked at she saw the look on Rhaenyra and Daemon's faces. She was head of them.
The fest continued until Aemond decided to share a few words. The prince stood up. "Final tribute. To the health of my nephews, Jace... Luke... and Joffrey. Each of them handsome, wise... and strong" Rhaenyra looked at Visenya who smirked at her son who was doing the same. Viserys had gone to bed. He couldn't save her now, neither could Daemon whose two great enemies stood in the same room. Ser Critson and Ser Brandon. "Come... let us drain our cups to these strong boys" he said. Jace stood quickly and walked over to Aemond. "I dare you to say that again" Jace threaten. "Why? Twas only a compliment" Aemond replied. "Do you not think yourself strong" Jace punched Aemond, who barely even felt the punch but he pushed him back, heard enough that he fell. Luke tried to helped but Maegor slammed his head against the table. Baela and Rhaena tried to intervene but Rhaella and Daenys stopped them.
"That's enough!" Visenya said and everyone stopped. "Aemond, everyone got to your rooms. Now" as they walked passed their mother she smirked, they all did the same. Rhaenyra too sent her children away. The princess looked at the queen. "It's best, I think if we go back to Dragonstone" Rhaenyra said and Visenya nodded. "I agree" Daemon scoffed. "You've always wanted us away from here to do as you wish" he said and she gave him an unimpressive look. "Have safe travels. All of you" she said before walking away. She went to see her husband. Viserys was old, too old. She knew it, why not speed up the process she thought to herself. Until he began to talk.
"But you wanted to know... if I believe it to be true" he said in whispers. "Believe what to be true, Viserys?" she asked. "Don't you remember? Aegon" he replied. "Our son?" she asked, clearly confused. "His dream" Aegon the conqueror. His dream. "The Song of Ice.. and.. Fi" he stopped. She knew of the prophecy. She had dreamt it. "It is true. What he saw in the North. The prince that was promised" she nodded. She had seen the White Walkers. Viserys began to breathe even heavier than before. "The prince. To Unite the realm against the cold... and the dark. It's..." the suspense was killing her. "The prince that was promise. You are the one. You must do this" Visenya's eyes begin to water. He was in his last moments. He opened his eyes.
A tear rolled down his eye. "I'm sorry, sister... I.. I was a terrible man, husband to you. And even terrible brother. Our children, I know they must... hate me. I hate myself. Tell them, I am sorry. Will you tell them?.." she nodded as she cried. Despite their differences he was her brother. And even when a part of her hated him, there was another that loved him. He was her brother. Her eldest brother. "I..." she covered him a bit more. "You can rest now, brother. It's gonna be okay" he nodded. Not knowing nothing would ever be okay nor the same ever again. She got up. She watched him raise his hand. "My love" he said as he took his last breath. He was gone. His dream was coming true, he would be with his Aemma now. Perhaps not. Only the gods knew were he was going. She rushed to her room first. She cried for a moment before collecting herself and calling her children into her room. They walked in, they saw her eyes and worry instantly filled them. "The king is dead" she whispered. The king was dead. The game had just begun. Who will win? The Blacks or the Reds?
