Daemon stayed behind in Harrenhal. Jacaerys and Reina made their way back to Dragonstone. Rhaenys, Baela, Rhaena, and Rhaenyra awaited for them. Reina greeted them but made no conversation, she let race have the conversation with his mother. Baela watched as Jacaerys watched Reina walk away. Rhaenys watched her. This was a bomb waiting to go off. Baela didn't greet him, instead, she followed Reina.
Reina felt her coming before she even decided to follow her. She took a different route, Baela made it to her room before Reina. The door remained open then it closed making Baela jump. "I never took you for the jealous type, Lady Baela," she said with a smile. Baela scoffed at her words. "You think because you have an army and three dragons you can waltz in her and act like you own this place?" Baela asked and Reina said nothing. "You know, Baela.." she began as she made her way over to her. "You think Jacaerys belongs to you" she said as she caressed her cheek. Baela moved to the side. "I understand. I truly do. You two have been betrothed since you were little children. He is all you have ever known and the same goes for him" she moves a strand of her hair to the side.
She stepped away from Baela. "But, has it ever crossed your mind that, perhaps, he might want something different now?" she asked with a smirk. "Jacaerys is brave and strong, but more than that, He is good and kind. He believes in doing the right thing. He is nothing like me, he is far much better than me. That is why I won't pursue him. All so that you can sleep well at night" she said before she began taking off her clothes. "You can stay if you wish. I wouldn't mind giving you a show. I will show you how good Targaryen women can be" Baela blushed at her words before composing herself and walking out.
Days passed and everything seemed back to normal, at least to most of the people in Dragonstone. Baela was not on speaking terms with her new found relative, not that they were ever close friends but given in the situation they were in. Rhaenyra had come to Reina for help. She thought it was idiotic but she was the queen if she wished to try for peace one last time she would give that to her. Reina and Mysaria found Rhaenyra a way to King's Landing. Meanwhile, Reina, Baela, Rhaena and Jacaerys tried to keep the council men busied while the queen disappeared.
Reina just sat in the meeting, listening to the lords speak of the matter of war. "My lords, sit down. And listen to the words of Lady Baela and Prince Jacaerys" she said calmly yet the men in the room continued with their conversation. Reina stood, slamming her fists into the table. "I said quiet! Or I will make sure you never utter a word ever again" the table went quiet. "Now, continue" she told Jacaerys who smiled but it quickly banished. After a brief discussion Rhaenyra returned. Reina was not inserted in hearing Jacaerys scold his mother for leaving to see Alicent. Reina tuned them out, until they spoke of Rooks Rest where Cole and his army would be.
Rhaenys was set out to meet Cole and his men, instead, they met with Reina and her men. While Baela, Jacaerys, and Rhaenys convinced the queen to send either one to battle, Reina made her way to her dragon. Rooks Rest was the place. To Reina, it didn't feel right, something was off. She knew the usurper, the kinslayer and the oath breaker were no fools. They had some experience in battle. She knew, somewhere there was a trap. Perhaps a dragon, she never expected too but she took it well.
The usurper showed up first. His dragon, Sunfyre was a beauty she would admit but he was not train for battle like hers. Meraxes was mutilating the golden dragon of the usurper. That was, until Aemond Targaryen showed up and that's where it all went down. Reina knew Aemond was not gunning for her, but for his own kin. His brother. She had seen it.
After the usurper fell, it was only the kinslayer and Reina in the field, on the ground, her men were overpowering the green army. Reina had asked for Criston Cole and Gwayne Hightower's head. Meraxes flew against Vhagar in the skies, a true dance of dragons many had said when they watched the formidable beasts go against one another in the sky. Vhagar had managed a few bites and scratches against Meraxes but the She dragon did not bring her down. Reina had burnt the usurper so badly that the maesters said he would never recover and Sunfyre would never fly again, some said the dragon died that same day. Vhagar and her rider were injured, the old dragon would have trouble flying but with some rest, she would recover.
Reina's men took Gwayne Hightower. Reina and her army returned to Dragonstone and that same day, the news came. Aegon Targaryen was dead and now, Aemond Targaryen was the new king. In another council meeting, Reina voiced her thoughts. "Now is the time to take King's Landing, your grace" she began and the lords nodded in agreement. "The usurper is dead. His successor is injured, and the only dragon riders are Helaena and Daeron, one does not fight and the other is not in the city. Daemon is perhaps days away, and so is Daeron" that same night, Daemon wrote they were near and so was Daeron.
Jacaerys made his way to Reina's room. She had been avoiding him since they returned from Harrenhal. He stood in front of her door for what felt like hours. Yet, it was only a few minutes. She opened the door before he even had the chance to knock. "It is late, my prince. It would be best if you were not here" she told him as she hugged herself. "I apologize for the late hour, your grace. But I..." he stopped. "I just want a moment of your time, if you allow it," he said and she sighed before letting him. Her room was warm, it was something Jacaerys did not understand but he quite enjoyed. She sat beside her bed.
There was a brief silence before she spoke first. "So, my prince. What was so important that you could not wait till morning?" she asked with a smile. Oh that smile, how he loved it. He could watch her smile for an eternity and would never tire himself of doing so. "You went to Rooks Rest and did not say a word" she was about to say something but he put a finger up to silence her, she smiled, an amused smile. "As the hours passed by I wondered what would be of you. I know you are a great warrior and dragon rider. Yet, the fear stood right there, in my heart. I could not lose another person I care about" this time, a sympathetic smile graced her lips.
He played with his fingers out of nervousness, usually, it was the handle of the sword but since he had no weapons his fingers would do. "I am fine, Jacaerys. A few bruises but nothing crucial. I have been through far worse battles than this" he shook his head. "I know! But what if you had died? Mmh? What then?" he asked angrily. "What would have become of me? Without you?" he asked again. She stood and made her way over to him. "Jacaerys, I am who I am. I was born with blood all over me and I shall die that way too" she told him and he rolled his eyes. He did not want her to die at any given time. "If you die, I will be devastated. Sad and lonely without you by my side, Reina. I will go mad if something were to ever happen to you" she gave him a sad smile.
She caressed his cheek, he leaned into her palm, her skin felt a bit rough yet soft at the same time. "Jace" she whispers, he looks into her lilac eyes. That was the first time she called him Jace in such a sweet and loving way that made him forget where he was. "Once Rhaenyra sits on her throne, I will return to my kingdom, you do know that, right?" he did but he always denied it. "Take me with you" she smiled once again yet her smile vanished as quickly as it came. "I cannot bring you with me" she told him. "You are promised to Lady Baela. You and her will marry once the war is over. And soon after, you two shall have your little babes and be happy till it's your time to be king" he felt the sting in his eyes, he wanted that, but not with Baela like he had imagined it for so long. No. He wanted all of that with Reina. He wanted her to be his lady wife, his queen, and the mother of his children.
He kissed her hand. "Reina, you cannot leave me here alone. With you" a sad smile appeared on her soft pink lips. "I have no other choice and I cannot bring you with me" she added. He shook his head no as the tears fell. Jacaerys had always known Baela was to be his wife, he did not love her as a lover but as a friend. If there could not be love in their marriage then friendship would be enough for them to be happy and rule the Seven Kingdoms as other kinds and queens had. Yet, when Reina came into his life everything changed for him. She was the very opposite of him and he loved her for that. She fought for his mother's claim and his own. She threatened Ulf when he spoke out of hand and made sure he knew where he stood.
"I am so so sorry, Jace. I truly am" he nodded. "I know," he said before he stood. "But, if I cannot have you for the rest of my life, then all I ask is for you to grant me one night. One night where we can pretend is only you and I. Happy, in love and married" she nodded at the proposal and idea of it. "Of course, husband," she said in their native tongue. The word husband made him smile. "Wife," he said to her, and now, it was her turn to smile. That night, there was no one but Jacaerys and Reina. No titles, no responsibility, no war. Just a man and woman who were deeply in love. As their night of passion progressed the two did not seem to need anything else. "I love you, Jacaerys" "I love you, Reina" they both whispered as the two stared into their eyes.
In the early morning, she woke him before anyone was awake. She did not want to but there was no other way. She had promised Baela she would stay away from him and she broke her promise but, to her, it was worth it. Soon, she would return home to the Free Cities where her kingdom awaited for her return. She caressed his cheek in hopes of waking him, instead of doing that, the young prince pulled her close into his arms. "Jace, you need to get up. Is almost time for everyone to get up" he groaned in disagreement. She began to kiss him all over his face, which surely woke him up. He smiled as he saw her, this, this is what he wanted to wake up every day for the rest of his life.
She kissed his lips and then, she pressed her temple into his own. She took a deep breath. "You must go now, Jace" once again he pulled her close. He sat her on top of him. She looked into his eyes, him doing the same. "I love you so much, Reina, till the end of my days" she felt the tears stinging her eyes. "I love you, Jacaerys Velaryon. I will love you forever, even after my own heart stops beating and if there is an afterlife, I hope we can meet there again and finally get the happiness we both deserve" the two lovers cried in their arms before bidding their won goodbyes.
Jacaerys sat beside his mother, in front of him sat the woman he loved dearly. The news of Daeron nearing King's Landing happened quickly as everyone gathered their men and their dragons. Daemon and his army met them near the city, Lord Hightower's army along with the Baratheon army fought against Daemon and his army. While they fought, Rhaenyra and Rhaenys went against Daeron and Aemond who after nearly dying found the strength to protect the city. Baela was helping her father while Reina fought alongside Daemon one of her birds told her of the trap that awaited Lord Corlys and Jacaerys who were on their way to rescue. Ulf and her brother had betrayed Rhaenyra and fought alongside Aemond and Daeron.
The songs and stories said that Reina butchered her own brother for betraying Rhaenyra. She then flew to the Gullet where she knew Jacaerys would be. She watched as Vermax was shot in his wing, and she rushed to his aid. She was not looking, a scorpion flew past her, and they shot many of them her way, she was slowing down and Vermax would not hold much longer without her help. Thankfully, her other two dragons made their way to the enemy's ship and set them ablaze. Reina was shot, three times, one in her shoulder, one in the back and one near her heart, yet despite the agonizing pain, she made it to Jacaerys and helped him along side Vermax, her dragons burned many of the enemy ships.
When they arrived at King's Landing she saw the other dragons. They had won. Daeron was dead, Aemond was dead, Ulf was dead, and her brother was a dead man too. He was badly injured but his time would come and his death would be by her hand. Jacaerys had a few scratches, everyone else seemed fine, Reina was the one who was badly injured but her healer worked fast and she was out of danger before the sun sat. And at last Rhaenyra Targaryen first of her name sat in her throne. There were only three things left to do. Kill the traiters, pick a council and start anew with a new monarch sitting on the Iron Throne and of course a wedding was to take place to secure the next king or queen of the Seven Kingdoms"
