chapter six|monster
okay, before we get into this chapter (where a ton of shit is gonna go down. like, these next two chapters are very intense and a lot of stuff happens.) i would genuinely like to know if anybody is interested in me trying to do a social media fic for louis hofmann (the actor who plays jonas kahnwald) once i finish writing this story, because i am very reluctant to leave the world of dark behind. i have sort of an idea in my mind. the current summary sounds a bit like this:
"a rising British punk singer struggling with finding her place in the world meets a young German actor who turns her world upside down, for the better."
it would primarily be a social media fic, which i haven't actually done before but would like to try. let me know what you guys think
Chapter Six
monster
Ulrich Nielsen sat at his desk, staring at the arrest warrant the department had just been granted.
"Charlotte, I don't know what to say."
"It was one of the kids, wasn't it?" The other detective said sadly
"How am I going to tell my kids that one of their best friends is a killer? Even I don't want to believe it. He's such a nice boy, from a good family."
"Evidence doesn't lie, Ulrich."
"I guess you're right."

I would have rather died than gone back to school, but I needed to get out of my house. I stood awkwardly in front of the main doors, more than an hour late with my skateboard tucked under my arm.
"Nervous much?" I heard someone shout from behind me.
Turning around, I was a little surprised to see Bartosz walking across the parking lot.
"I needed to get out of the house, but I'm not looking forward to it." I admitted
Bartosz chuckled "Me neither. I was suffocating. The death threats aren't fun, either."
I reached for his hand. "We'll go in together, then."
"In all honesty, I can't remember what class we have first." Bartosz shrugged
"Law, I think."
Ironic, considering what would happen in just a few short hours.
When we entered the classroom, all eyes were on us. It made me uncomfortable, but Bartosz looked like he had gotten used to the whispers and the stares. Franziska glanced at me from the back of the room, a sad smile on her face.
Bartosz and I sat a few rows apart. I could hear all the whispers.
... that's the kid that killed Heidi Vogel...
... I heard he strangled her with his bare hands...
...I don't know why Annaliese is still hanging out with him. Preaching his innocence...
"Bartosz" I reached over and grabbed his shoulder "Don't listen to them. We know you didn't do it."
Bartosz was about to reply when Charlotte Doppler knocked on the door. I looked back at Franziska, who sent me a frantic glance. When Ulrich Nielsen walked in behind Charlotte. My heart dropped to my feet.
There could be only one reason why they were here.
"Bartosz Tiedemann, you are under arrest for the murder of Heidi Vogel. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do can be use against you in a court of law, however it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something you may later rely on in court."
"This isn't right!" Franziska protested
"He didn't do it!" I shouted, following the two officers and the wrongly arrested teenage boy out of the room. By now, stragglers in the hallway and some kids from the other classes were watching the spectacle.
I watched Jonas reach out to grab Martha's arm as she looked like she was going to hit both her father and Charlotte.
"Bartosz couldn't have done it!" I shouted, tears springing to my eyes
I felt someone grabbed my hand and looked behind me to see Magnus. He had a habit of coming and going whenever he pleased.
"Dad come on. We've known Bartosz for years!" Martha protested
"Martha, not right now." Ulrich scolded the girl
"On what grounds?" Jonas shouted as we followed the three out of the building "What evidence do you have?"
"You can find out for yourself at the bail hearing tomorrow morning!" Charlotte yelled, trying to stop us form following Ulrich and Bartosz.
"Mom, come on." Franziska pleaded "Bartosz is harmless."
"He cried himself to sleep when I accidentally ran over a squirrel on our way back in from the city." Magnus confessed "There's no way he could have killed a living, breathing human being!"
Once both officers were in the car, we started beating at the windows and shouting at the car. When it started moving, we followed. There was no way in hell we were going to let Bartosz get to that police station. When we couldn't follow the car anymore, I fell to my knees. I felt sick, promptly hurling in the bushes, Magnus holding my hair away from my face.
"Hey, baby, it's alright, you're okay. We'll figure this out." He murmured, rubbing gentle circles on my back
Baby? BABY? Jesus Magnus just tell me if you like me like that or not!
"What do we do now?" Jonas spoke up, voice raw from screaming. Bartosz and Jonas had been best friends since kindergarten. I couldn't imagine how this was affecting the poor boy.
"My cousin Moritz is a lawyer in Munich." Franziska says, "I can call him later, make sure he talks to Bartosz before the hearing tomorrow morning."
"The Tiedemann's have money. Aleksander and Regina may be able to use that to their advantage." I said quietly before being sick again.
"Annaliese, I'm taking you home. You aren't going back to school like this." Magnus said, helping me to my feet.
"I should go back." Franziska said "My mom will throw a fit, if she isn't already and I don't want to be there for the fallout."
"I'll go back, Magnus should stay with Liese." Martha added
It was all downhill from there.
___
Magnus and I sat at the Nielsen's dining room table, alone in the house and with our thoughts. Since Heidi died our lives had bene flipped upside down, put through a trash compactor and turned right side up again.
"Hey, do you remember when we went to Mannheim on that school trip and Bartosz farted into the intercom at Wal-Mart?" Magnus said with a laugh, breaking the silence
Laughing, I nodded "When that lady started yelling at us. What did she call Bartosz?"
"A little shit." Magnus grinned
"God, that woman reminded me of our kindergarten teacher. That same whiny voice like Roz from Monsters Inc."
"What was her name again?"
"Mrs. Lenz."
"Do you think Franziska's cousin is going to get him off?" Magnus said quietly
"I hope so." I said, reaching across the table for his hand "I'm not sure what I'd do if we lost him too."
I closed my eyes, swiping at a tear that threatened to fall as I remembered all the good times we'd sent together as a group, from Bartosz's Wal-Mart prank to the ill-advised road trip we took last summer where Franziska, Bartosz and Jonas got food poisoning from an Italian restaurant and Martha broke a lamp in the hotel whilst we played Just Dance.
Magnus stood up, taking our empty hot chocolate mugs into the kitchen
"Annaliese, I'm sure it will all be fine."
I followed the taller blonde boy into the kitchen. "What if it isn't? What if we lose Bartosz as well?"
Magnus cupped my cheek with the palm of his hand, carefully using his other hand to brush a section of hair out of my face. Instantly, the butterflies took off in my stomach and I felt nervous.
"Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I'm never going anywhere." Magnus said softly
We stood like that for a few minutes, staring into each other's eyes before I'd had enough, and I leaned in closer. Magnus met my lips halfway and it felt like fireworks were going off.
I was kissing Magnus Nielsen.
Our Hollywood ending moment was interrupted when the front door opened. "Magnus?!"
The blonde boy quickly broke away, moving to the living room to see who was here. "Opa?"
Great. Tronte was here. Terrible timing, really.
