Life is tough for me.
Firstly it was throwing me that random Nishinoya popsicle mission and now this?
Taking a bite of Nishinoya's dessert wasn't that difficult. In fact, it was pretty simple. If only there weren't a few concerning factors. Like the very last minute receiving of the mission, the word 'steal' on the task, which suggests that I definitely can't prompt Nishinoya beforehand, and also the fact that Nishinoya literally CHOMPS down on his ice popsicle in like three bites??!!! When do I even have the time to sneak a bite when the DAMN ice cream vanishes in like less than 2 seconds???? (I'm also going to ignore how Nishinoya ran away from me due to my accidental peck)
Anyways, the time limit for the mission was also ridiculous, it was literally MERE seconds! And now I need to find one Kita Shinsuke, and get him to praise me!
How am I going to find him? On google?!
Wait... That might not be such a bad idea. But how would I even leave the prefecture to find Kita even if I manage to locate him? My mother definitely isn't going to let me travel so far away from home...
Urgh.
I smacked myself in the face as I continued walking back to my house while finishing up my free dessert.
I'll figure stuff out soon enough... I'm just going to leave this to future M/N. Future M/N will deal with the penalty problem. I'm already heading to my death anyway, might as well relax.

"Okay, what the fuck did I miss, again?" M/N questioned out loud as he sees the Karasuno gym jammed packed with various new faces.
"Oh first I missed Noya senpai's return and now it appears that we have a new member along with a bunch of uncles!" M/N raised his hands up high before dropping them back down in exasperation.
Ukai Keishin, Karasuno's new coach glanced at the new arrival in mild irritation while the other people of the neighborhood association looked panicked at being called uncles.
"I don't look that old right? Tell me?!" One gripped onto the other exclaiming ignoring the ball as it fell directly in court.
"Hah? Another late member?!" Coach Ukai almost exclaimed as he scrutinized M/N up and down before looking at Takeda for some clarifications.
But before Takeda could answer the new coach, the rest of the team called out to M/N enthusiastically, "M/N! You're finally here!"
M/N grinned and waved at his fellow teammates before gesturing for them to resume their match while he headed towards the two adults.
"Takeda sensei, I'm assuming you've received my text in advance?" M/N politely asks while completely disregarding Ukai.
Takeda nodded as he glanced at M/N, "Yes, I've received it. Don't worry, your lateness is accounted for."
"Thanks, Takeda sensei." M/N then turned to Ukai. "And who may you be?"
Keishin sighed as he answered, "I'm Ukai Keishin, your temporary volleyball coach till the practice match with Nekoma high."
"We have a practice match with Nekoma?" M/N feigned surprise as he glanced at Takeda sensei and Coach Ukai. He already knew of course. Glad to know the Haikyuu plotline is still intact.
Coach Ukai and Takeda sensei nodded before Coach Ukai spoke up once more, "What's your position on court kid?"
"Firstly, it's Akiri M/N, and secondly, I'm an all-rounder."
"Hmm, an all-rounder eh... Out of all of the positions is there one that you're more comfortable with or more skilled in, Akiri?" Coach Ukai questioned, pondering on where to slot M/N in the game. After all, he needed to get a basic grasp of each member's capabilities.
"I honestly don't have a position that I'm more skilled in, though I'd say that I'm most comfortable as a libero at the moment, due to it being the most recent position I played." M/N answered honestly.
Coach Ukai was in quite a conundrum wondering if he should add M/N as a libero in the same team as the freak duo(which he still hasn't completely gotten over yet), "Then, between Nishinoya and you, who do you think is better?"
"Now that's an unfair question coach. I'm either going to come off as pretentious or narcissistic. You're making me sad." M/N's voice wavers at the end before it returned back to normal in the next moment.
"Honestly though, I'd say that Noya senpai is more skilled with his years of experience backing him up, unlike me. However, with that being said I wouldn't say my skills in defense would be too far behind. So if we were in a game against each other, I'd say it'd be a close matchup." M/N revealed a small smirk as he replied Keishin without a doubt.
Coach Ukai looked at M/N with an undescribable look before deciding to pause the match, placing M/N as a Middle Blocker in the Neighborhood association team.
-
"Erm hello. I'll be in your care." M/N bowed and greeted politely, a stark contrast to when he first busted in.
"Who's this Suga?" Asahi asked, looking at the M/N who was staring at him.
"Ah, you haven't met him yet, have you?" Suga cheerfully pushes Asahi closer to M/N.
"Asahi, meet M/N. M/N, meet Asahi."
"Um, hi. I'm Azumane Asahi." Asahi introduced himself.
"Hello, it's nice to meet you. I'm Akiri M/N." M/N returned Asahi's gesture.
"Please do call me Asahi instead."
M/N nodded, "Of course, Asahi-san."
Nishinoya then suddenly popped up slinging an arm extremely comfortably around Asahi, "Isn't he great?" Though as he spoke, his eyes curiously never met M/N's(appearing rather shy, how unusual).
Before anyone could clarify with who Nishinoya was referring to, Tsukishima's voice was heard from the other side of the net, "Yah, let's play. Some people want to go home you know?"
"A-ah! Sorry, sorry!" Asahi instantly apologized, realizing that their conversation was interrupting with their already running late match.
Getting into positions, M/N readied himself. It would take a while for him to get used to this particular team. After all, besides Suga and a very limited knowledge on Nishinoya, he has no clue what the other people's playing styles, strengths, and weaknesses were, watching the anime and reading the manga wouldn't be enough. It would be tough for M/N to instantly fit in.
-
"This is the last point we need to win this set. Asahi!" Suga cried out as he set the ball in the most perfect and comfortable arc for Asahi.
However, much to their team's dismay, Asahi's spike was blocked by Tsukishima where a small smug look crossed his face. "Aw, too bad."
"It's blocked, the ball is falling!" Someone from the Neighborhood association team called out.
"The ball's too far for me to reach!" Nishinoya's voice was strained as he tried his best to reach towards where the ball would land, yet knowing his limits.
In such dire times, when even the party who had trained block-receive so diligently throughout his own suspension period is unable to pick the ball up, all hope was lost. But of course, that was only a scenario bound to happen if they didn't happen to have a certain raven-haired boy in their team.
M/N's instincts automatically flared up, covering a huge distance in an instant, sliding his hand just nicely beneath the falling ball and tossing it almost too gently back to the opponents' court.
The ball hit the top of the net, barely reaching it due to how softly M/N flicked the ball up. A moment of high tension ensued as the ball balances on the top of the net for a second. Everyone was so nervous about the outcome, and yet no one knew how M/N had purposefully softened his save to ensure that this exact scene would play out. If they knew, how would they have reacted?
Finally, the ball wobbled as it chose a side, falling swiftly onto the opponent's(Kageyama's) court, awarding the neighborhood association team as winners. Cheers immediately erupted as Nishinoya gave M/N a sold pat on the back, thanking him for the save(finally throwing that blush away... Yeah no Nishinoya was still looking a little flustered).
"That was amazing M/N! That was so cool like swah! Swi! Swoosh!" Hinata exclaimed as he bounced towards M/N.
M/N smiled sheepishly as Nishinoya and Hinata crowded around him displaying their high levels of enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Asahi stood beside Suga with Daichi joining in after at the side watching as M/N was bombarded with sparkly looks from the first years(mostly).
"Akiri is pretty good." Asahi stated as he kept his eyes on M/N.
"Yeah, he's pretty cool alright. Even we're not sure of his full potential." Suga nodded as he slung an arm around Asahi.
"M/N truly is a mystery. Absolutely no records of him from middle school in the volleyball sector, and yet he seems to be able to bamboozle everybody every time." Daichi agreed as he crossed his arms deep in thought.
"I feel like he'd be more suitable to be ace." Asahi shook his head.
"Nah, no one would ever replace you, Asahi!" Suga spoke as he smacked Asahi hard in the stomach causing him to do a double-take.
"Ah yes yes Suga. Ow! Sorry!"

Author's note:
M/N sucks. For someone who wanted to see the Haikyuu plot unfold with his own eyes, he has such horrible luck, honestly. He's missing all the good drama! Like the whole first year duo goes and confront Asahi scene, and the moment where Hinata received Asahi's spike to the face. M/N literally comes after all this. Why?! You suck M/N, you suck.
Anyways, apart from my completely irrelevant rant, I'd like to thank you guys once more for the beautiful fanarts. They never fail to place a smile on my face whenever I receive one.
