ROOSTER'S SUNRISE MOTEL

A car pulls into the parking lot of the Rooster's Sunrise Motel, and a man gets out. With trepidation, he goes inside. The man approaches the front desk, where there's a women behind it.

"Mister... "Travis Johnson"?" She Says

"That's me." Travis Says

"It's after 10:00. We don't usually allow late check-ins." She Says

"Yeah. Uh... sorry." Travis Says

"And, um, you had a special request? Room 214?" She Says

"Yeah. Doctor's orders." Travis Says

"You been here before?" She Asked

"Yeah, Long time ago." Travis Says, as the woman nodded.

"Mm. Welcome back." She Says, holding up the room key.

Travis takes the key, and slowly makes his way through the halls to room 214, his hand shaking as he unlocks the door.

"You can do this." Travis mumbles

He goes inside then sits on the edge of the bed with a bottle of whiskey, and receives a text from someone named CAITLIN that reads "Travis, I'm worried. Why would you go back to that place?" and puts his phone away without responding.

"Just one night. And then it's over. It wasn't real It was never... real." Travis Says

Travis holds the charm hanging around his neck and closes his eyes. A child comes out of the closet behind him, frightening him into falling off the bed and cowering in fear, while the child slowly advances on him, picking up a piece of Travis' smashed whiskey bottle.

"Do you remember me?" He Says

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no." Travis Says

"I remember you." He Says

"You're not real. You were never real." Travis Says

"Boo." He Says

We hear Travis scream and a tearing noise from out in the hallway.

IMPALA

The Impala is seen driving down a dark road, as Sam, Elena and Dean drive at night.

"How much longer?" Dean Asked

"Uh... seven hours." Sam Replied

"Ugh." Dean Sighed

"Yep." Elena Says

"I Can't believe we're going back here." Dean Says

"Travis was a friend." Sam Says

"Yeah, I know. I'm not saying what happened isn't sad. You know, I mean, the guy slit his throat with a whiskey bottle, but...He's an old friend, you know? Old, old. Like haven't seen him in 25 years. We've missed funerals for much closer friends...Hunters." Dean Says

"Well, this is different. I-I mean, it's not like we have much else to do. Chuck is off world. Jack's in the bunker, waiting for Billie's orders. And...And Cas just...bailed, I guess. He didn't say anything to you about why he left?" Sam Says

Dean looks through the rearview window as Elena gives him a look, and he shrugged.

"Not really." Dean Says

"And you guys didn't get into a fight or something?" Sam Asked

"It's just Cas being Cas." Dean Says

"Right." Sam Says

Dean receives a text from Cas that reads "Did you and Elena tell Sam yet?" but hides this fact from Sam. He has not told him yet.

"Seriously, Dean? You know how many people die every year texting and driving?" Elena Says

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I know. Look." He puts his phone away, "Okay? Done. You're right. My bad." Dean Says

Its now morning when they finally arrive at the Rooster's Sunrise Motel. Dean parks the car as the three of them look at the place.

"Huh..so this is the place?" Elena Says

"Yep." Sam Says

"It looks smaller." Dean Says

"Yeah, well, we're bigger. Weird being back here." Sam Says

"Yeah, it's not exactly on the top of my bucket list." Dean Says, then they get out the Impala.

FLASHBACK

JANUARY 1993

Flashback to young Sam and Dean being dropped offΒ  by John at the same motel.

"Dad should've let me go with him. I mean, you don't need me. I was babysitting you when I was your age." Dean Says

"I'm pretty sure that's illegal." Sam Says

"Whatever. Uh, wanna practice shooting?" Dean Asked

"No. I just want to go to the room." Sam Says

"Naw, let's... let's hit a vending machine or something." He looks to Sam as he hiding
something under his jacket, "What's that?" Dean Says

"Nothing." Sam Says

"Let me see." Dean Says

"Dude, stop!" Sam Says, as he tries fighting Dean off him but managed to get the book from under his jacket.

"Ahh. Victory." He discovers it's a 1991 American College Guide book, "These better be haunted colleges. Where'd you even get this?" Dean Asks

"The bookshelf at the last motel." Sam Says

"I thought your imaginary friend told you it was bad to steal. Why would you want...wait." Dean Says

"What?" Sam Says

"You think you're gonna go to college?" Dean Says

"Yeah. Why not?" Sam Says

"Why not?" Why?" Dean Questioned

"The last time we were over at Bobby's, I overheard Elena and Corinna talking about it and I thought maybe one day I'd like to as well. And 'Cause that's what normal people do." Sam Says, as Dean scoffed.

"Right. Because we are normal whatever. I swear you hang out with those two to much." Dean Says

"What their cool and they're our friends." Sam Says

"Sure or maybe because you got a little crush on Corinna." Dean Says, teasingly poking at Sam who smacks his hand away.

"Shut up do not, you're the one with the crush on Elena." Sam Says, as Dean laughs.

"Yeah right now way dude, anyways look we barely go to school. So if you think places like that'll even think about letting a dumbass like you in... Come on. This, Sammy? This is our life." Dean Says, then entered the building.

Young Sam looks at the book forlornly, tosses it on the bed and then unpacks the knife and gun from his bag and sets them beside it.

In the hallway, Young Dean finds the vending machines and performs a trick that dispenses a candy bar without paying for it.

"Freeze! You're under arrest." Caitlin Says

"Uh..." Dean Says

"Relax. I won't rat on you...if you teach me that trick. This is my little brother, Travis." Caitlin Says

Young Travis looks exactly like the child from the cold open, who killed adult Travis.

"Hey, kid. I'm Dean." He Says

"Hi." Travis Says, shyly.

"I'm Caitlin." She Says

"Oh. These old models, they're easy. One, two... three." Dean Says

Dean pushes a series of buttons and bangs on the side of the machine, then hands the candy to Caitlin.

"Thanks." Caitlin Says

"So, uh, you staying here?" Dean Asked

"Our mom works here...cleaning crew. We saw your car when you checked in. Who's your dad...Knight Rider?" Caitlin Says

"What? No. My dad drives an Impala, which is badass. KITT's a crappy..." Dean Says

"Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Yeah. I know." Caitlin Says, as Dean nods impressed.

PRESENT

Now adult Caitlin is cradling a mug of coffee in a restaurant as an echo of that old conversation replays. Soon Dean, Elena and Sam enter the restaurant.

"Caitlin?" Dean Says

"Dean." Caitlin Says

"Hey." Dean Says, as the two of them embrace.

"Hey. Sam. Thanks for coming." Caitlin Says, as she hugged him.

"Yeah." Sam Says, as Caitlin looks to Elena.

"Oh right Um, Caitlin this is my wife Elena." Dean Says

"Oh Hey, nice to meet you." Caitlin Says, as she lended her hand out which she shook.

"Yeah you too." Elena Says, "And I'm sorry, um..
you know, about your brother."

"Yeah, thank you." Caitlin Says, as they all sit down.

"How you holding up?" Sam Asked

"Crying a lot. Blaming myself a lot. Long story. Travis, he...After you left, he had a pretty rocky life. Drugs, couldn't hold down a job. I encouraged him to get help for years. Finally, he took my advice. Started therapy. It was great at first. It... It really seemed to be helping, and then..." Caitlin Says

"Then...?" Sam Says

"His doctor started prying. About that winter..what happened here. Travis said he needed to face his fears. His doc called it "immersion therapy." To heal. He checked in to room 214." Caitlin Says

"Room 214? Is that where he...?" Elena Says, as Caitlin nodded.

"Well, look, whatever you need us for, we're here, okay? Help with the funeral..." Dean Says

"The funeral was last week." Caitlin Says

"What?" Dean Says

"I'm sorry. I thought you said..." Sam Says

"I know. I'm sorry. I needed to be sure that you would come." Caitlin Says

"Come for what?" Dean Questioned

"Caitlin...why do you want us here?" Sam Asked

"I think she's back. You remember that winter, how it started. She came for Travis first." Caitlin Says

FLASHBACK

In the flashback, we see young Travis attempting Dean's vending machine trick.

"One, two... three." Travis Says

One he presses the button but it doesn't seem to work, but as he walks away the candy drops. He
runs back to get it, and a hand wearing a large ring reaches from the machine and grabs his hand. All the candy begins to fall, and Travis fights to free himself.

"Caitlin! Help! Caitlin, help! Help me!" Travis Yelled out

Travis sees the reflection of an old woman in the glass, inside the machine, and finally wrenches his hand free from her grip just as Young Dean and Young Caitlin come running to his aid.

"Travis?!" Caitlin Says

"You okay, kid?" Dean Asked

"Travis? What happened?" Caitlin Asked, as her younger brother looks terrified.

He just looks at the now perfectly normal vending machine in horror, leaving Caitlin and Dean baffled.

"What... Hey." Caitlin Says

_______________________________

PRESENT

The four of them all inside room 214 as Sam and Elena are using EMF to scope out the room, as Dean checks out a file.

"Well, the coroner's report is open and shut. Travis's fingerprints were all over the broken glass." Dean Says

"I know how this seems... How I seem. But my brother, he wouldn't have killed himself." Caitlin Says

"Well, I know they cleaned the place out already, but we looked everywhere." Elena Says

"Yep no symbols, no hex bags, nothing that's... our kinda thing." Sam Says

"Caitlin, I know it's hard, okay? But you said it yourself... that this "immersion" therapy was making things worse. Maybe coming here...sent him over the edge." Dean Says

FLASHBACK

Young Dean and Sam are speaking with Caitlin and Travis as they are trying to understand what happened to him.

"I'm crazy. You think I'm crazy!" Travis Says

"No! It's just... I didn't see anything." Caitlin Says

"But I did!" Travis Says

Over by the desk Dean is on the phone with Bobby, as Sam looks to him.

"Okay. Thanks." He hangs up, "Bobby says Dad's two days out of range, at least. Left a message." Dean Says

"Wait. You called your dad? Why?" Caitlin Asked

"Because y...you say you saw a monster, right? I believe you." Dean Says

"You do?" Caitlin Says

Dean looks to Sam who nods to him, to give them the talk and he lets out a sigh.

"Monsters are real. Me, my dad...we hunt them. It's, uh, kind of the family business." Dean Says

"That's... Are you for real?" Caitlin Questioned

"Yeah. He is." Sam Says

"Can you tell us, um... anything else weird going on? In this hotel, in town? Other people seeing things?" Dean Asked

PLAYGROUND

Caitlin takes them to a fence at a local playground where several missing posters adorned with flowers and mementos are hung on the chain link.

"This first one was a couple months ago. Town looked for days. They never found him. Second one was just a few weeks later. And then a third...just
last week." Caitlin Says

PRESENT

"I'm sorry, Caitlin, but that thing, it's not here." Dean Says

"You've changed. Back then, you believed him, even before I did." Caitlin Says

"Well, this is different." Dean Says

"Uh, Dean, we don't know what happened." Elena Says

"The thing preys on kids... only kids. Are there any missing or dead kids in town?" Dean Says

"No." Caitlin Says

"Right. I know it's hard. But that has to be what happened, because that other thing, I killed it. I'm sorry." Dean Says

FLASHBACK

In a utility room at the motel in 1993. The kids enter with a stack of newspapers, and Dean locks the door behind them.

"It's secure. Grab a paper." Dean Says

"Yeah. I got that." Sam Says

"So what are we looking for?" Caitlin Asked

"Anything that might help." Dean Says

"Okay. Like this? "9-year-old Britta went missing from the gas station"?" Caitlin Says, looking at the newspaper.

"Main and Genesee...we...we stopped there on our way into town. And then, Travis was attacked here, at the motel." Sam Says, placing small candies on the map.

"Any other locations?" Dean Asked

"Um, Retsof Road and Main." Travis Says

"Castagna Lane and Genesee." Caitlin Says

"Sam, anything close to all those places?" Dean Asked, as Sam looked at the map again.

"Not really. The Wadsworth Cannery?" Sam Says

"That place? It's abandoned." Caitlin Says

Dean chuckles to himself and immediately heads for the door.

"Where are you going? We don't even know what this thing is yet." Sam Says

"I Got a gun. Got a knife. I'm good." Dean Says

"Dad wouldn't like this." Sam Says

"Dad's not here. And he'd want me taking charge." Dean Says

"Well, then I'm coming." Sam Says

"No. S-Stay here. Be normal." Dean Says

"Then I'm coming." Caitlin Says, standing to her feet.

"Yeah. Again, no. This ain't the friggin' Goonies. None of you has been on a hunt before. Just..stay. I got this." Dean Says, then leaves the room.

WADSWORTH CANNERY

At the cannery at night Young Dean arrived, and begins breaking in.

"Hey!" She surprised Dean and he turns on her with his gun already drawn, "Whoa." Caitlin Says

"What the hell are you doing here? I told you to s..." Dean Says

"Yeah, well, my mom says I never listen, so... Look, I get it...you're a very experienced monster hunter. But I'm not leaving. Come on. Don't you want a partner?," She watches Dean pick the lock, "Not
very good at that, are you?" Caitlin Says

Dean sighed then just gets it open, "Just stay
behind me."

They descend a staircase in the abandoned factory, while meanwhile back at the motel, Sam and Travis play Boggle.

"Don't worry. They'll... They'll be back soon. Whatever it is, my brother will kill it. Come on.
L-Let's Boggle." Sam Says

Back at the cannery Caitlin and Dean walks further more into the abandoned place.

"This place is, um... really gross." Caitlin Says

"You asked for it. I mean, hunting usually means going to gross places." Dean Says, holding up his flashlight.

"Are you... Are you sweating?" Caitlin Asked

"Huh?" Dean Says

"Um, you seem tense. Scared, even." Caitlin Smirked

"What? No." Dean Says

"Seems like it to me, coming from someone who's hunted before." Caitlin Says

"Look I'm not scared okay, god you sound like Elena." Dean Says, shaking his head.

"Who's Elena? Oh is she your girlfriend?" Caitlin Asked, smirking as Dean rolled his eyes.

"Pfft no Elena isn't my girlfriend, I don't even like her in that way. She's stubborn, and sassy and knows how to get under my skin oh and second guesses everything I do which is annoying." Dean Says

"Hmm, we'll she sounds delightful." Caitlin Says

"Eh she's more like the sister I never wanted." Dean Says

Dean sees something in the darkness which is something hurried under a tarp.

"Stay here." Dean Says, then goes to investigate.

And it appears to be a nest filled with things taken from the missing children. Meanwhile back at the motel, the boggle board reads "KILL YOU DEAD."

Back at the cannery, Dean approaches the nest. Sam finds the words "KILL, YOU, NOW" among the letters. Dean finds a key to the Rooster's Sunrise Motel, room 107, and then uncovers something that horrifies him.

"Dean? Dean, what is it? What did you see?" Caitlin Says, as he puts on a brave face and returns to her, showing her the key.

"Nothing. She's not here. Come on." Dean Says

"Dean!" Caitlin Says

"What's happening?" Travis Asked

Sam and Travis back away from the table as the game stops shaking for a second, and the lights go out as the dice explode into the air.

"Travis!" Sam Says

The old woman from inside the vending machine grabs Travis from behind, just as Dean and Caitlin return.

"Travis!" Caitlin Says

Sam pulls Travis from her grasp, and Dean enters with his knife.

"Sam, get back!" Dean Says

Dean slices off the old woman's fingers, and then stabs her. we see her severed fingers evaporate from the floor beneath the bed, but her ring remains. The woman disappears, and the lights come back on as Caitlin runs to comfort her brother. None of them even notice the ring.
