STAGECOACH CREDIT UNION

Inside the Stagecoach Credit Union, the teller and guard fill a bag with cash while Dave holds them at gunpoint.

"You hit that alarm, you die. You hand me that funny wad of cash with the dye pack in it, you die." He points his gun at the guard "You. You try and play hero, big boy, you die. You got me?" Dave Says

When Dave leaves the bank, Dean is waiting in the parking lot for him.

"Dave Mather. Robbing a bank, that's a bold move." Dean Says

"You must be the Hunter." Dave Says

"And you must like to play cowboy." Dean Says

"It's my favorite suit. You know, I like to keep a little piece of old Dave on me just to gnaw on." Dave Says

Off to Dave's side, Sam cocks his gun and draws Dave's attention to him, Cas, and Jack and Dave laughs.

"Let's make it two, three, four Hunters! Whoo!, Must be my birthday." Dave Says

"Look, why don't you come with us someplace else? We can do this quick and quiet." Sam Says

Dave responds by drawing his gun, so Sam fires at him and misses. Dave fires back, and a gunfight breaks out as everyone ducks for cover behind cars, and Cas and Jack duck behind a stagecoach.

"Are you all right?" Castiel Asks

"Yeah." Jack Says

"Whoo!" Dave Says

The gunfight continues, as many cars are damaged and windows shatter.

"Okay, you stay here." Castiel Says

"No, it's okay. I've got this." Jack Says

"No, Jack. Jack!" Castiel Says

Jack walks out to confront Dave, and Castiel follows after him. Meanwhile, the guard inside the bank tries to help.

"Stay here." He Says

"Jack! Jack!" Castiel Says

"Hey!" Jack Says

Dave fires several shots that hit Jack in the chest, but Jack is unharmed.

"What the hell?" Dave Says

The security guard reaches Dave just as Jack throws a blast of power at Dave, sending them both flying backward. The guard crashes into a post, but Dave rolls and gets up to run away.

"No." Jack Says

"Check the guard." Dean Says, as he runs off to chase Dave.

"No!" Jack Says

"No. No, no, no, no." Sam Says

Sam, Jack, and Castiel run to help the guard while Dean chases after Dave on foot until he loses sight of him. Meanwhile the guard lays in a spreading blood pool.

"Cas, I-I didn't mean to. Castiel, you have to heal him." Jack Says, Castiel attempts to heal the guard, but isn't able to.

"I can't." Castiel Says

"Why– why not?" Jack Asks

"He's dead." Sam Says

STAMPEDE MOTEL

Back at the motel, thunder rumbles outside. Jack sits on the sofa while Sam, Dean, and Cas confer in the bedroom.

"Is this the first time he's hurt anyone?" Castiel Asks

"No. No, but it is the first time he's hurt someone that didn't get back up." Sam Says

"All right, you two should get Jack back to the bunker." Dean Says

"What?" Sam Says

"The cops are gonna be on their way. We gotta get him out of town." Dean Says

"Okay, but what–what about the ghoul?, I can stay here." Castiel Says

"No, I'll handle it. Besides, you need to be with the kid in case he...you know." Dean Says

"Okay. All right." Castiel Says

MORGUE

Athena walks through the mortuary, as Dave grunts and stumbles down the stairs.

"Ha. Hey, baby." Dave Says

"Dave, what happened?" Athena Asks

"Uh, I got shot." Dave Says

"Oh, my God." Athena Says

"Ow!" Athena worriedly checks his wound, as he laughs "It's not a big deal. Hey, I robbed a bank for you." Dave Says

"What are you talking about?" Athena Asks

"I-I... I changed my mind. You can go to that school, and I'm gonna come with you. Okay? But we gotta leave now. So big city, here we come." Dave Says

"Are you insane?" Athena Says

"No, look, I can pawn jewelry for stuff like concert tickets. But if we're skipping down, digging up a few bodies just ain't gonna cut it." Dave Says

"You're the grave robber? But that would mean... That cop that got killed?" Athena Says

"That–that pissant Deputy Carl, he was tailing me.
I had no choice, I had to do it. I had to do it." Dave Says

"You killed someone." Athena Says

"Who had it coming but it doesn't matter now anyways. Baby..." He's slowly backing her across the room as she tries to put more distance between them "We need to leave. Now. Okay?" Dave Says

"Don't touch me." Athena Says

"Hey. I'm the one that's giving you everything that you ever wanted. So how 'bout you stop being a bitch, okay? Athena..." He grabs Athena and she gasps, afraid "You're with me, and I will always take care of you and I will always protect you. But we need to get the hell out of Dodge now." Dave Says

"Just get away from me." Athena Says

"Baby. Baby!" Dave Says

As they struggle, headlights shine in through the window.

"Damn." Dave Says

Outside the mortuary, Sarge stands by his truck, his rifle over his shoulder, as Dean pulls up and gets out.

"Y'all looking for someone? 'Cause I am. Bank in town just got robbed. Turned into a real O.K. Corral type of deal. Big old shootout." Sarge Says

"I heard about that." Dean Says

"Mm-hmm. Shawnte, the clerk, recognized the perp's voice. She said he sounded just like the fella that's been dating Athena." Sarge Says

"That so?" Dean Says

"And we got prints back from the murder. They matched prints from the bank. That boy's been busy. I already checked his place. It's cleaned out, but I figure he ain't goin' nowhere without his best girl. So that's why I'm here. Why are you here?" Sarge Says

"Same thing. Trying to get the bad guy. where's your badge?" Dean Says

"I don't need one. This is family business." Sarge Says

"Well, I should tell you I'm not taking him alive." Dean Says

"Neither am I." Sarge Says

"All right, then. Uh, aim for the head." Dean Says

GRAVEYARD

Dean and Sarge search the graveyard for the ghoul, Dave.

"What the hell?" Sarge Says

"Come on." Dean Says

Dean and Sarge meeting up after circling the mausoleum.

"All right, you wait here. I'm-a flush him out." Dean Says, suddenly Sarge is grabbed and pulled underground.

"Aah!" Sarge Says

"Sarge? Aw, hell." Dean Says

Dean kneels at the edge of the tunnel entrance, debating about how to crawl down.

"Mnh-mnh! No, I don't wanna–Okay." Dean Says

He dives into the hole head first, flashlight in one hand and rifle in the other.

"Ugh." Dean Says

His gun gets caught by a protruding rock in the tunnel and he has to stop and yank it free.

"Uhh! Perfect." He spits dirt out of his mouth "Yeah. Sure. Come to Dodge City, we'll have some laughs. Ugh." Dean Says

IMPALA

Rain falls and thunder rumbles as Sam drives Castiel and Jack back to the bunker in the Impala.

"Jack, you, uh...you okay?" Sam Asks

"Jack, I've killed people who didn't deserve it...my friends–I've killed people I loved. I wish I could tell you that it– that it gets easier, that with time, it hurts less, but that would be a lie because it–it never gets easier. And those moments, they never stop hurting. But that doesn't mean that you should stop fighting. Doesn't mean that just because you made a mistake and that's what this is, Jack. It's a mistake. That doesn't mean that you can't–can't be better, do better. I believe that. I have to believe that." Castiel Says

"And we still believe in you, Jack. We, uh–" Sam Says

"Stop. Just... Please stop." Jack Says

MORGUE

Inside the mortuary, the graveyard tunnel opens behind an old crematorium door, and Dean crawls out and falls to the ground.

"Aah!" Dean Says

When he gets to his feet, he finds Athena tied to a chair.  Dean moves over to untie Athena.

"Hey. Hey. Hey. You okay?" Dean Asks

"No. What the hell is going on?" Athena Says

"Okay, well, your boyfriend, uh, is not exactly human." Dean Says

"What?" Athena Says

Across the room, Sarge groans as he regains consciousness, and Dean runs to check on him.

"Hey. Hey, Sarge. Hey, hey. Hey, you okay?" Dean Asks

"Still kickin'." Sarge Says

"Okay." Dean Says

"Just barely. That sumbitch dragged me down here, tossed me around like I was a damn rag doll." Sarge Says

"You got any idea where he is?" Dean Asks

"A little bit." Sarge Says

A gun cocks behind Dean's head, and he turns to see Dave standing behind him.

"Hands up. Oh, I think you heard me. Raise 'em! High! Attaboy." Dave Says

"Dave? Don't." Athena Says

"It's okay. I'm doing this for us, baby." Dave Says

"There is no "us." Athena Says

"Ooh. Ouch. Breakups can be a bitch." Dean Says

"Shut up." Dave Says

"Or what?" Dean Says

"Or I'm gonna put a bullet right between your eyes. I mean, what'd you think was gonna happen here? You come down with no gun, like it matters anyway. You ain't fast enough." Dave Says

"No, but he is." Dean Says

Dean takes one step to the side, revealing Sarge on the floor behind him, aiming Dean's rifle at Dave. Sarge fires and kills Dave.

"Happy trails, cowboy." Dean Says

GRAVEYARD

The next morning in the graveyard, Dean and Sarge walk back to their cars.

"So, you mind telling me exactly what went on back there?" Sarge Asks

"Sure. Guy named Dave killed your deputy. He tried to kill you, and you shot him dead. And I was never here." Dean Says

"Fair enough." Sarge Says

"And the, uh, security guard at the bank, Dave killed him, too." Dean Says

"Hm." Sarge Says

BUNKER

Dean arrives back in the bunker, where Jack's sitting at the library table alone and contemplative. Sam sits at the war room table across from Castiel.

"Hey." Sam Says

"Hey." Dean Says

"How'd it go?" Sam Asks

"Usual. Killed the bad guy, saved the girl." Dean Says

"What about the, uh... " Sam Says

"Took care of it." Dean Says

"Good." Sam Says

"Good? How is that good? I killed someone. What was his name? The guard? Did he have a family?" Jack Says

"Jack, don't do this to yourself." Castiel Says

"No, did he?" Jack Asks

"Yes, he did." Dean Says

"Jack, look, this life, what we do, it's...it's not easy. And we've all done things we regret." Sam Says

"Just don't. You're afraid of me." Jack Says

"Jack, no." Castiel Says

"No, maybe you're right. Maybe I'm just another monster." Jack Says

"No, you're not. I thought you were. I did. But...Like Sam said, we've all done bad. We all have blood on our hands. So if you're a monster, we're all monsters." Dean Says

"No, you don't... Every time I try and do something good, people get hurt. I thought I was getting better. I'm not... I don't know what I am, but I know I can't make the world a better place, not like this. I can't even do one good thing. And I know that if I stay, I'm gonna hurt you. All of you. And... I can't. You're all I have." Jack Says

"Jack, listen..." Sam Says

"I have to go." Jack Says

"No, Jack." Castiel Says

"I'm sorry." Jack Says

Jack uses his power to knock Sam, Dean, and Cas backward across the war room and his eyes glow golden.

"I'm so sorry." Jack Says, then disappears with a woosh.

"Jack." Castiel Says

Sam and Cas get to their feet and look around for Jack.

"Jack!" Castiel Says

"He's gone." Sam Says
