ROAD

A married couple Molly and David are driving along a generic 2-lane blacktop at night. 'House of the Rising Sun' The Animals plays on the radio.

"We're lost." Molly Says

"No. This is a short cut..." David Says

"Babe, it's just we've been on this road over an hour, and we haven't seen a single car." Molly

"Molly, I know how to read a frickin' map, okay?" David Asks

"We passed a gas station a while back. Let's just go ask someone." Molly Says

"That was 40 minutes ago. We're not turning around." David Says

"Come On. Isn't this argument a little archaic? Men can ask directions these days."Molly Says

"No, we can't. It's against our genetic code. Look, I know exactly where we are." David Says

"Oh, yeah? Where?" Molly Asks

"Highway 99, okay? It cuts right through..." David Says As they pass a sign that reads '41'

"Highway 99, huh?"Molly Says

"Okay, so we, we're taking the scenic route." David Says

"David. It's our anniversary, and we're spending it stuck in the car." Molly Says

"I know. I'm sorry. Let me make it up to you, okay? Come here." David Says he leans over, kissing at her neck playfully]

"Stop. I'm mad at you." Molly Says

"Oh, come on, Molly. Hey, you love me." David Says

"No, I don't. You're a jerk. David, I mean it." Molly Says As she pushes him off, taking her eyes off the road. A Man appears in the road before them.

"Molly!" David Says screaming, she swerves to avoid the man and runs the car off the road

later the car has crashed into a tree. Molly wakes up and looks around, disoriented.

"David? David?, she crawls out of the wreck,David? David?, he is nowhere to be seen, Da... David?!,she staggers through the woods, calling for him
David?! David?,she comes upon a cabin with a candle burning in the window, Hello? Is anyone here?,she enters, Hello?, she passes a wall covered in tools, then sees the Man from the road standing with his back to her
It's you. You're okay. I'm so sorry. his stomach, which she can't see and which is impaled and bloody
I didn't see you there. Are you... Are you hurt?
She reaches out to touch him, Sir?

He turns towards her, blood dripping down his face. His mouth opens, spilling more blood, and his face turns dark and rotting. She glances down and sees his stomach. She screams.

ROAD

Molly runs through the woods away from the cabin. She staggers onto the road, where a car is approaching.

"Stop!" Molly Says As She stands in the middle of the road, hands out.

"Holy-!" Dean Says As He stops the Impala just in front of her.

"You've got to help me. goes to the passenger's side and pounds on the window, which Sam rolls down.
Please. Please!" Molly Says

"All right, all right. Calm down, calm down. Tell us what happened." Sam Says

Sam and Dean have parked the Impala by the road and all three are standing around it.

"I-I swerved, a-And we crashed. And when I came to, the car was wrecked and my husband was missing. I went looking for him, but that's when the man from the road, he... he started chasing me." Molly Says

"Did he look like he lost a fight with a lawn mower?" Dean Says

"How did you know that?" Molly Asks

"Lucky guess." Dean Says

"Ma'am, what's your name?" Sam Asks

"Molly. Molly Mcnamara." She Says as
Sam exchanging a look with Dean

"I think maybe you should come with us. We'll take you back into town." Sam Says

"I can't. I have to find David. He might have gone back to the car." Molly Says

"We should get you somewhere safe first. Then Dean and I will come back. We'll look for your husband." Sam Says

"No. I'm not leaving here without him. Would you just take me back to my car, please?" Molly Asks

"Of course. Come on." Sam Says

The Impala parks by the woods near the crash site. They get out, Molly leading them into the woods.

"It's right over there. they come upon the crash site, but the car is gone, I don't understand. I'm sure this is where it was. W-We hit that tree right there. This... this doesn't make any sense." Molly Says As she goes to investigate, out of earshot

"Dean, we got to get out of here. Greeley could show up at any second." Sam Says

"What are you gonna tell her? Dean Asks

"The truth?" Sam Says

"She's gonna take off running in the other direction." Dean Says

"I know it sounds crazy, but I crashed into that tree. I don't know who could've taken it. It was totaled. Please. You have to believe me." Molly Says

"Molly, listen, we do believe you. But that's why we want to get you out of here." Sam Says

"What about David? Something must have happened. I have to get to the cops." Molly Says

"Cops... that's a great idea. We'll take you down to the station ourselves. So just come with us. It's the best way we can help you and your husband." Dean Says

"Okay." Molly Says As she comes back up

They drive down the road, Molly in the backseat.

"We're supposed to be in lake Tahoe." Molly Says

"You and David?" Sam Asks

"It's our five-year anniversary." Molly Says

"A hell of an anniversary." Dean Says

"Right before, we were having the dumbest fight. She Sighs. It was the only time we ever really argued... when we were stuck in the car." Molly Says

He Laughs "Yeah. I know how that goes." Sam Says
As Dean Looks at him

"You know the last thing I said to him? I called him a jerk. Oh, god. What if that's the last thing I said to him?" Molly Says

"Molly... We're gonna figure out what happened to your husband. I promise." Sam Says As the radio starts making odd noises, then plays 'House of the Rising Sun' Dean frowns at it

"Did you-- ?" Dean Asks

"No." Sam Says

"I was afraid you'd say that." Dean Says

"This song ..." Molly Says

"What?" Dean Asks

"It was playing when we crashed." Molly Says
As The radio crackles again, and settles on another station. A creepy voice, Greeley's can be heard.

"She's mine. She's mine. She's mine." Greeley Says

"What is that?" Molly Asks As Greeley appears in the middle of the road. Dean floors it straight at him.

"Hold on." Dean Says

"What are you doing?" Molly Asks As Dean drives straight into Greeley, who vanishes in a puff of smoke

"What the... What the hell just happened?" Molly Asks

"Don't worry, Molly. Everything's gonna be all right." Sam Says As the Impala begins to shudder

"Spoke a little too soon, Sammy." Dean Says As the Impala coasts to a stop on the side of the road. Dean tries to start it again but the ignition sputters,I don't think he's gonna let her leave."

All three exit the car.

"This can't be happening." Molly Says

"Well... Trust me. It's happening." Dean Says
As He opens the trunk and starts pulling out weaponry. Molly comes around and sees the arsenal, backs away slowly.

"Well... Okay. Thanks for helping, but I think I got it covered from here." Molly Says

"Wait. Molly, Molly, wait a minute." Sam Says As He Goes after her

"Just leave me alone." Molly Says

"No no no. Please. You have to listen to me." Sam Says

"Just stay away." Molly Says Says As she turns and starts to leave

"It wasn't a coincidence that we found you, all right?" Sam Asks as she stops

"What are you talking about?" Molly Says

"We weren't just cruising for chicks when we ran into you, sister. We were already out here. Hunting." Dean Says

"Hunting for what?" Molly Asks

"Ghosts." Dean Says

"D... d... don't... Sugarcoat it for her." Sam Says

"You're nuts." Molly Says

"Really? About as nuts as a vanishing guy with his guts spilling out. You know what you saw." Dean Says

"We think his name is Jonah Greeley. He was a local farmer that died 15 years ago on this highway." Sam Says

"Just ... stop." Molly Says

"One night a year, on the anniversary of his death, he haunts this road. That's why we're here, Molly. To try and stop him." Dean Says

"Now, I suppose this ... ghost made my car disappear, too." Molly Says

"Crazier things have happened, huh?" Dean Says

"You know what? I'm all filled up on crazy. I'm gonna get the cops myself." Molly Says

"I don't mean to be harsh, but I don't think you're gonna get too far." Dean Says

"What is that supposed to mean?" Molly Says

"Means that plan A was trying to get you out of here. Obviously that didn't go over too well with, uh, Farmer Roadkill." Dean Says

"Molly, we're telling the truth. Greeley's not gonna let you leave this highway." Sam Says

"You're s... you're serious about this, aren't you?" Molly Asks

"Deadly." Dean Says

"Every year, Greeley finds someone to punish for what happened to him. Tonight that person is you." Dean Says

"Why me? I didn't do anything." Molly Says

"Doesn't matter. Some spirits only see what they want." Sam Says

"So you're saying this ... Greeley, he took my husband? Oh, god." Molly Says

"Molly, look, we're gonna help, all right? But first, you gotta help us." Sam Asks

"Help you? How?" Molly Says

Molly has led them back to the cabin where she saw Greeley.

"This is it. This is where I saw him." Molly Says

"Must have been his hunting cabin. He sees vicious tools hanging, a bloodstained table, Huh. Seemed like a real sweet guy." Dean Says

"No markers or headstones outside." Sam Says

"You're looking for Greeley's grave?" Molly Asks

"Yeah." Sam Says

"Why?" Molly Asks

"So we can dig up the corpse and salt and burn it." Dean Says

"Oh. Sure, naturally." Molly Says

"It's a way to get rid of a spirit." Dean Says

"And that'll save David?" Molly Asks

"Well, this is what'll help both of you, provided there's a corpse to be found." Sam Says

"So how do we find it?" Molly Asks

"I'm not sure. After Greeley died, his wife claimed the body. And that was the last anyone saw of her. So good guess she brought him back here. But they had a thousand acres. He could be buried anywhere on 'em." Sam Says

"So this is really what you guys do? You're like Ghostbusters?" Molly Asks

"Yeah." Sam Says

"Minus the jumpsuits, This is a fascinating conversation and all, but this highway is only haunted once a year, and we got till sun-up to wrap this thing up. What do you say we move it along, okay? Great." Dean Says As They go outside and continue their search.

"What are we looking for?" Molly Asks

"Greeley's house. Maybe he's buried there. Look for roads or paths or something. Stay close." Sam Says

"Yeah. Okay." Molly Says Then She hears a voice.

"Molly? Molly, help me. Molly?" The Voice Says

"David? David? David!" Molly Says, She then goes in search of the voice, Greeley appears and grabs her. She screams. Dean pointing his shotgun at Greeley

"Whoops." Dean Says As He Shoots Greeley in the head. he dissipates

"Hey! Are you all right?" Sam Asks

"What has that son of a bitch done with my husband?" Molly Asks

"Just take it easy, all right? You're gonna see David again. You will." Sam Says

"Hey!, indicating that something isย  ahead of them, Follow the creepy brick road." Dean Says

"Go ahead." Sam Says As Molly Follows Dean

"That thing shoots rock salt?" Molly Asks

"Yep." Sam Says

"And plain salt keeps away spirits?" Molly Says

"Simple remedies are always the best. In most cultures, salt's a symbol of purity, so it repels impure and unnatural things. Same reason you throw it over your shoulder." Sam Says As They round the corner and see a creepy house

"You know, just once I'd like to round the corner and see a nice house." Dean Says, Sam and Molly enter the house and Dean stays outside to look around then he enters

"Any headstones outside?" Sam Asks

"Yeah, right. Is it ever that easy?" Dean Says

"I guess not." Sam Says

"You two check upstairs. See if you can find any notes or records telling us where he's buried. I'll just check down here." Dean Says, Sam and Molly go upstairs. They find a room strewn with papers.

"Great" Sam Says As he starts going through the papers then Molly finds an old scrapbook by the window and opens it

"Look at this. She takes the scrapbook to the bed and sits down. Sam joins her, It's Greeley and his wife.
Sam turns a few page, It's a love letter he wrote her. My god, it's beautiful. I don't understand how a guy like this can turn into that monster." Molly Says

"Um ... Spirits like Greeley are, uh ... like wounded animals. Lost. In so much pain that ... they lash out." Sam Says

"Why? Why are they here?" Molly Asks

"Well, there's some part of them that... that's keeping them here. Like their remains or, um... unfinished business." Sam Says

"Unfinished business?" Molly Says

"Yeah. Uh, it could be revenge. Could be love. Or hate. Whatever it is, they just hold on too tight. Can't let go. So they're trapped. Caught in the same loops. Replaying the same tragedies over and over." Sam Says

"You sound almost sorry for them." Molly Says

"Well, they weren't evil people, you know? A lot of them were good. Just... Something happened to them. Something they couldn't control." Sam Says
Then Dean Enters

"Sammy's always getting a little J. Love Hewitt when it comes to things like this. Me, I don't like 'em. And I sure as hell ain't making apologies for 'em. There's nothing downstairs. You find anything?" Dean Says

"Uh, just about every piece of mail or receipt they ever had. Looked through a couple, but nothing about a grave so far." Sam Says Then Dean investigates a wall.

"What?" Sam Asks

"There's something behind here. He Tosses his flashlight to Sam, Here. He moves a cabinet aside, revealing a small hidden door. He pokes at it
It's locked from the inside. turning around, he throws a back kick at the door, which does nothing. He looks surprised, then braces himself and kicks harder. The door falls inward. They crawl through. Once in the room they brush away cobwebs to stand up. It smells like old lady in here. he finds a corpse hanging by the neck from the ceiling.
And that would explain why. Well, now we know why nobody ever saw her again." Dean Says

"She didn't want to live without him." Molly Says Then Sam picks up a chair as if to take down the corpse

"Dean, give me a hand." Sam Says

"Really?" Dean Says

"What are you gonna do?" Molly Asks

"We can't leave her like this." Sam Says

"Why not?" Dean Asks

"She deserves to be put to rest, Dean." Sam Says
Dean reluctantly agrees. Sam stands on the chair and begins to cut through the rope as Dean steadies the corpse.

"Son of a ... " Dean Saysย  at the smell of the holding a corpse

OUTSIDE THE CABIN

Sam and Dean dig a grave for Mrs. Greeley wile Molly Watches

"So... So, if you manage to put Greeley to rest, too... What happens to them?" Molly Asks

"Lady, that answer is way beyond our pay grade." Dean Says

"You hunt these things, but you don't know what happens to them?" Molly Says

"Well, they never come back. That's all that matters." Dean Says

"After they let go of whatever's keeping them here, they ... they just go. I hope someplace better, but we don't know. No one does." Sam Says

"What happens when you burn their bones?" Molly Asks

"Umm... Well, my dad used to say that was like death for ghosts, you know? But... The truth is, we still don't know. Not for sure. He looks at Dean
Guess that's why we all hold on to life so hard. Even the dead. We're all just scared of the unknown." Sam Says

"The only thing I'm scared of is losing David. I have to see him again. I have to." Molly Says
