Despite this happy love story, there was always a dark past.

Takashi Morinozuka and Faerie Woods have been engaged since they were in the womb. Being side by side since the days they opened their eyes.

Their fates sealed by a promise made by two men. A common occurrence in the early years of Japan. Betrothing one's child or grandchild as a way of settling a debt or appreciation. For these old men, it was to secure a friendship between families.

But this isn't what this story is about.

This duo had a third........ and fourth.

They weren't lovers. One was a cousin born and raised, the other was a dear friend. He left way before their time.

Mitsukuni Haninozuka, the eldest of the four by a few months. Mori's dear cousin and a light in Fae's life.

Chris Milton, a sweet boy that rather bottle everything up than let others know he's in pain. He would've found joy in being a host with his friends.

The four were inseparable as they had grown up together. Not to say that Cookie wasn't also apart of it but these four had a different bond.

To make a long story short, their true lore started when they were 8. Fledglings to the world but old enough to know when things weren't right. It was a memory they pushed deep down in their minds. But in their hearts they'd never forget how losing someone could mean they are gone forever.

Chris Milton was the first son of The Milton family. A running trend in this small group.

His mother was a close friend with the others of course. Hence why he could grow up with them. And they all just clicked instantly. As sometimes the only way to get them down for a nap was to call each other and ask if everyone could come over.

The four had to be in the same crib just to rest for a few hours.

It was both adorable and annoying but the mothers knew that what they had was special.

As for Chris's father.....he was an interesting man.

Fast forward 8 years later, the group was out for their usual outing. This time going camping with their fathers while their mothers took a well needed vacation.

"Chris you're already covered in bites. Go sit by the fire." Faerie frowned as she looked at her friend's arms. It was covered in whelps and red lumps.

  The little boy just laughed.

"I'm fine Fae. It's just a few bugs, it's not like it'll kill me." Chris rubbed her head. She wrinkled her nose at him.

"It's Faerie not Fae." She scoffed playfully at the boy before pushing him towards the fire. Making him sit near it as the bugs were turned away by the smoke and heat.

He sat next to Takashi who was watching Mitsukuni make s'mores. This was his 8th one but the silent cousin was never one to stop him until it felt necessary.

"Mori, you can't let Honey eat so much sweets. What if he gets a cavity?" Chris looked at his friends with amusement. They were used to the nicknames he had given them although Faerie was adamant about him calling her the correct name.

"It's okay! I brush my teeth every morning and night." The blonde said proudly. At this age, they were all the same height. Takashi just an inch or two above everyone as his parents were also very tall people.

The male just nodded in agreement.

"Hey kids! Who wants to go fishing?!" Lloyd asked the group as he swooped up his only daughter. She giggled as he nuzzled his nose into her cheek. Beaded braids rattling as she squirmed in his hold.

"I do!" The kids all raised their hands excited.

Takashi stood up and reached his hand out towards Lloyd. The older man looked down at the boy confused.

"What is it squirt?" He grinned at the young boy. Takashi only furrowed his eyebrows more.

"Unhand my fiancée please." The young boy said softly.

Lloyd chocked at his words. Ever since they were told about their situation, he has been ever so protective/clingy. And his sweet little Faerie has been so happy about it.

  He wanted to cry.

The father placed his daughter down. She hugged her friend as they ran off to meet the others. Wanting to collect their own bugs for bait.

Each father/child paring had their own little boats. Each being tied to the other to keep everyone together.

Chris sat with his father in the back with Mitsukuni's boat in front of them. His eyes looked dull as he sat opposite of his father. Not that many could tell, but he looked to be shrinking in on himself. But he kept the same happy smile he always displayed.

"Okay everyone! Please keep your hands and feet in the boats at all times! We will now be heading out!" Faerie stood on top of her father's lap to announce that. The other men chuckling at the girl. But they saluted her nonetheless.

Faerie was the daughter everyone wanted. They loved their boys dearly but who didn't want a cute little girl.

The fathers started rowing their boats up stream. Heading to an area that is supposed to be more populated with fish.

"Father, how come we all took separate boats?" Mitsukuni asked his dad quietly as he helped row. The man looked at him before glancing back at the boat behind him.

"I'm not sure son. It was Mr.Milton's idea. He felt as if it would be easier that way." The older man whispered to his son as he faced front. They all thought it was an odd request but didn't think that much into it.

The group sat around listening to music and fishing. The dads drunk a couple of beers but not enough that their reaction times would be slow. Their wives would kill them.

"Takashi! You got one!" Faerie looked over the edge of her boat to see the boys line being pulled. Lloyd held her waist so she didn't fall over.

The Morinozuka boy reeled his line in. But the fish fought hard. His father had to step in and assist him to pull it in. And soon enough they caught a pretty large bass. The group clapped and congratulated the boy on his first big catch.

"Chris! You got one too! Hurry up!" Faerie pointed her finger at the bobber. The boy was surprised as genuine happiness flashed in his eyes just now.

With some trouble he finally reeled the fish in. It wasn't as big as Takashi's but he was still proud. As everyone clapped and went back to fishing he looked at his father.

He shuddered seeing the dead look in his eyes. But a warm and proud smile on his lips. Chris quietly put his fish in the box and set up his rod once more. Scooting back as he hoped to diminish his presence.

The fishing was very plentiful. Releasing fish that were too tiny to keep and storing the rest to cook over the fire.

But it was time to go as it would take a minute to get back to the camp site. Luckily it would be a little faster since they were going down stream.

As they were rowing back; Chris and his father were now in the front. The water started to get a little rocky. Lightning flashed in the sky before being followed by a thunderous boom.

Lloyd held his daughter close as did the other fathers with their children. They were all confused as they were told that there wouldn't be any storms this week.

"Daddy is it going to rain?" Faerie looked up at her father. Slight fear running through her eyes as she gripped on his shirt. Lloyd kissed her forehead.

"We'll be fine. I'll protect you." He smiled at her. She nodded before holding onto him tighter. The boat was rocking wildly at this point.

Everyone was paddling hard to get back to the campsite. They needed to get indoors in their cabin.

Another strike of lightning struck followed by the boom. The sky darkened increasingly making Faerie scream. But not because of the mess of the weather, but because The Miltons boat became untied.

Without the extra weight, their boat speed down the river at an alarmingly fast rate.

"CHRIS!" The three children yelled for their friend. He looked at them with fear in his eyes. A level of fear they've never seen before.

"We'll meet you at the campsite!" Mr.Milton yelled to the group. Rowing as hard as he could to get to the bank but he seemed to be struggling.

The fathers yelled for them to be safe. But the last thing the kids saw was the dead eyes of their beloved friend. He mouthed a few words to them before becoming too far.

  'I'm sorry.'

The three fathers were beside themselves. Cursing that it was their children that had to be the first to stumble upon the sight.

No words could be said to quell the screaming and crying.

No words could be said to explain why this would happen.

No words could be said for them to understand that Chris Milton.......

wasn't coming back.

A storm had swept him away and separated him from everyone. But it was his own father that truly took him away.

Chris Milton was dead......and they were the ones to find him.
