  Kageki Tatsu

Kage meaning shadow and ki meant hope. His last name, Tatsu, was translated into the word dragon. A prefect name for a Moon Dragon, although he didn't remember who granted him his first name. He picked up his surname from the whispers of the people.

The 24 year old dragon was the youngest of the dragons. Granted in dragon years he was technically around 324. In their eyes, he was still a child. Although he may be on par power wise he'll never really know.

He never knew why he was the only dragon that was still around. He had no clue where the others went or why. He was just here.

He was always a lone creature. Only being spotted in the dead of night, high above the clouds. He never bothered the small village he lived by but they were well aware of his presence.

As much as they feared him, they adored him. He was revered as a guardian as he absentmindedly protected the land. Running away bandits or returning children.

At this time he was a part of Fairy Tail. He was 13 or so when he joined. But he was hardly around at the beginning. Only coming in for missions and occasional meals.

He terrified most of the members. People hardly tried to interact with him.

It didn't mean that there wasn't those who did. More specifically, two little girls that butt heads a lot. Along with two little boys that were like fire and ice. And a mysterious boy that no one's ever seen.

We'll come back to that though.

This story is about how an egg made a lonely Moon Dragon became just a little bit less lonely.....

It was another day like all of the others. A teenage Kageki slept throughout the morning. Only now waking up in the afternoon.

He shifted into a human for. That of a 13 year old boy. He yawned as he looked around the large cave. His eyes landing on a dresser that a few of the villagers nearby brought over.

He looked through the clothes before choosing a simple gray tank top and army printed cargo pants. There was a stream nearby that he bathed in.

The male also noticed that they seemed to have left food for him when he was asleep. He didn't think much of it as they usually seemed to do that.

So he continued his afternoon as he always did.

He sprouted wings and took off into the sky. He flew over the village and took note of the people waving at him as they retired for the night. He nodded at them stiffly.

He's been around people of course but he still wasn't social. He really didn't know how to mingle with people. His stoic and cold demeanor always came off as intimidating.

But yet he's never had the desire to be around others. He believes he's just fine on his own.

However his eyes did linger on a group of friends having fun in a park.

It didn't take him long to arrive at Fairy Tail. A guild he joined to relive his boredom. One of the older ladies that comes to his cave spoke about it often. He'd absentmindedly listen to her stories of the rowdy guild in the main town. Soon finding himself at their doorstep.

When he walked in, the place became quiet. A scene he was use to and paid no mind to it.

"Kageki! Fight me!" A pubescent voice yelled from a random booth. The older boy looked over to see a nine year old boy. He had salmon pink colored hair and onyx eyes.

Other than the dragon scale scarf he wore, he did have a distinct smell of dragon. Kageki would've been more interested in the child if it wasn't for his persistent demand to duel. He had humored the kid once or twice; undoubtedly winning every time.

"Natsu sit down! We have to watch over the egg." A small girl around the same age pulled the boys hand. She had short white hair and blue eyes that matched her siblings in the guild. She went by the name Lisanna.

The moon dragon was slightly curious about the egg she mentioned. Looking over to see a large white egg with blue markings. He was confused as he's never seen this before. Not even in his years as a dragon.

"They think a dragon is going to hatch out of it." Another young male voice scoffed. The temperature near the older teen turned a little frosty. He looked down to see another 9 year old boy. He had black hair and dark blue eyes. His name was Gray.

"A dragon? The eggs too small." Kageki mumbled out his thoughts. It came off as him looking down on the idea but that wasn't the case.

"He's so stupid." The young ice mage sneered at the dragon slayer. Kageki wanted to correct whatever thought he had in his head but he guessed Natsu heard them.

"Who you calling stupid, ice princess?!" The pink haired boy yelled as he stomped up to his rival. The two began to bicker as Kageki looked at them. The teen pursed his lips.

"Kageki you can't let them fight! They'll destroy the guild hall." Yet another young voice spoke to the male. This time it was a female voice. She was two years older than the boys and Lisanna. Her long scarlet red hair was pulled into a ponytail. Brown eyes looking at the two younger boys with annoyance.

This was Erza.

"Shut up Erza! Kageki, tell her that isn't your job." Another female voice yelled. This girl was the same age as Erza. She had long white hair and blue eyes. The older sister of Lisanna, Mirajane.

Very quickly, the two girls started to argue also.

Kageki simply blinked at the chaos before him. He honestly just woke up and still couldn't even remember his last name. The Moon Dragon turned and walked away from the two brawls. Not feeling inclined to stop them.

He jumped up to the second floor. The floor meant for S-Class mages.

Walking over to the mission board he looked at it lazily. Randomly grabbing a paper and heading off. But the theme of the day seemed to be people wanting to talk to him.

"Little Kageki, do you have a moment?" The master of the guild smiled up at the male.

He was a very short old man. His white hair and facial hair on full display. He had kind black eyes. His name was Makarov but most of the younger generation called him gramps.

Kageki grunted in reply. The old man took it as him obliging.

"You've been here for some months now. Have you considered creating or joining a team? It could help you get to know your guild mates so you're not so lonely." The old man spoke softly. His words were clear and genuine as he wanted the boy to actually befriend someone.

The teen looked at him with a blank stare.

Team? He had never worked with others before. Sure he's gone to make sure some of the younger members, Natsu, didn't destroy anything. But he wasn't really working with them, just monitoring.

Master seemed to understand his complex thought so he smiled softly.

"Here, can I have you do this mission for me instead?" The older man handed him a mission flyer. Kageki took it with a look of indifference.

It was a rescue mission. The reward was pretty good so he saw no problem with it. Other than the corner that was ripped off. He squinted his eyes at it.

"Oh it was just torn funny. Don't mind it." Master waved him off. Kageki grunted and left after accepting the mission.

An older man walked up to the Master of the guild. He had short light brown hair and dark green eyes. A relatively good looking man. He went by the name Gildarts.

"Didn't you give that to the other little boy too?" The middle aged man asked. Makarov looked at him with a mischievous smile.

  "Whatever do you mean?"

  "Hahahahah!"

Kageki arrived to the mission sight fairly quickly.

But to his surprise, he wasn't the only one. He stared blankly at a blue haired teen with a red mark on his face. He wore a black hoodie and dark blue cargo shorts. On his back were several different staffs. They were the same age.

"Let me guess.....Master asked you about joining a team then gave you a mission request?" The blue boy sighed as he put his hands in his sweat shirt pocket.

"Yes." Kageki grunted as he squinted his eyes at the boy. A look of slight annoyance covered his face. The other male sighed out once more.

"Well this is a duo mission, which I usually don't do but I'm already here. Names Mystogan." He introduced himself to his partner. His hand out which Kageki looked at for a few seconds.

"Kageki." The dragon conjoined hands for a handshake.

Mystogan nodded. He was quick to realize the boy was a man of few words.

They got their mission details. They were to retrieve the chiefs daughter that was kidnapped by dark mages. There was apparently monsters guarding the area she was being held.

With the new found information, they took off. Kageki carrying the boy as he flew in the air. They saw what looked to be pseudo dragons. A mutant creation that was made by the dark mages.

"Your powers reside from the moon correct?" Mystogan asked as they stood further away. Watching the monsters patrol the area.

"Hn." Kageki grunted once again. His lack of words becoming a norm for the two. Mystogan nodded as he thought of a plan.

The blue haired teen technically didn't have magic. His staffs were magical items that he used in replacement but he still had brute strength. So he thought of the best way to utilize both of their strengths.

"I think we should do a sneak attack. If you can darken the light of the moon, I'll sneak past the fake dragons and find out where the Chiefs daughter is." He came up with a quick plan. He had a staff that could turn his body into mist. But he didn't want to risk someone noticing him.

Kageki nodded and raised his hand up to the moon. A golden magic circle appeared on his palm. Within seconds the light from the moon darkened until it was pitch black.

The people were shocked by the sudden change. But not as surprised when they suddenly started being taken out left and right. Even their monsters weren't able to keep up.

"Thank you for rescuing my daughter. Please take this and I'd like to offer my daughter's hand in marriage." The village chief had his people bring over a very large chest.

The two teens didn't even blink.

"No thanks." They grabbed onto the chest and started to walk away.

"But my hero's! I am in love with you both. I do not mind sharing~" The girls voice rung out. She was about 2-3 years older than them. Her sultry demeanor made them shiver again.

Kageki didn't think twice before spreading his wings. Carrying the chest and teen boy away from the area. They could hear the yelling of the girl from far away.

They didn't stop until they arrived at Kageki's cave.

"Is this where you live?" Mystogan asked looking at the barren space. It had a few items in it but for the most part it was just a cave.

"Yes." The stoic male nodded. Noticing bottled drinks the villagers left, he offered one to the male.

The blue haired male said no more. He simply walked over to the chest and opened it. The two were surprised. Amongst the hoard of treasure was an egg.

It's was very large and black. Intricate blue and gray carvings decorated the item. Kageki looked surprised as it was an egg similar to the one Natsu had. He could hear the heart beat of life behind the thick shell.

"An egg? Why would they give this to us?" Mystogan wrinkled his nose in confusion. He saw no purpose in the object.

"I'll take it." Kageki picked up the large egg. He didn't know why he was curious about it. It just drew him to it. The other teen looked in surprise.

"Be my guest. I'll just take my half of the reward and leave."

Kageki grunted in response. His focus was solely on the egg. Mystogan left like he said after giving the boy an odd look.

Kageki slept for maybe a few hours.

He had his dragon body wrapped around the small egg. From what he knew, he had to keep it warm. Waking up, he gently inspected the egg to see if there were any changes.

Not noticing anything particular, he washed and headed to the guild.

It was rare for him to come to the guild during the day time. But he was curious about the eggs and wanted to know if Natsu had any update on his. So he carried it under his arm as he pushed the doors open.

That same silence welcoming him as he looked around. His eyes landing on the pink haired boy.

"Natsu." He gruffly called the boy that was devouring his breakfast.

Said boy felt a shiver run down his spine. He didn't know why Kageki was here, calling out for him. He thought about everything he's done in the last few hours that could've made the young dragon upset.

"Y-yes?" He turned towards the older male. But his eyes widened when he saw the object in his arms.

"Woah! You found a dragon egg too?!" He stood up on the booth bench. Becoming eye level with Kageki.

The older male blinked and furrowed his eyebrows. He wants to tell him that it wasn't a dragon egg. That he knew for sure.

"Yes." Was all he said. Placing his egg on the table next to Natsu's. His was slightly bigger and had a certain shine to it. But their markings were similar.

Kageki listens to the young dragon slayer ramble on about what he and Lisanna did to take care of the egg. He recalled how the little girl seemed to see this as them acting like a family.

The Moon Dragon furrowed his eyebrows again at the word family.

"When our dragons hatch, they'll be cousins!" Natsu said excitedly to the male. He seemed to always have a certain connection to Kageki. Many assumed because he was presumably raised by a dragon and Kageki was one.

He only perused his lips at the words.

"Leave Kageki alone. He doesn't want to be in a family with someone who has smoke for brains. He prefers someone cooler and stronger." Gray said smugly as he stood near the table. He too happened to be fond of the older teen.

"That's not true! Right Kageki?!" The flame user looked expectingly to the moon manipulator. The ice mage also looked at him.

"I-You found an egg too?" Erza cut the male off from replying to the 9 year olds. She was followed by Mirajane who most likely wanted to pick a fight but didn't. The white haired girl was also curious about the second egg.

"Mhmm." He mumbled softly.

"Since Lisanna is helping Natsu, I guess I help you too or whatever." Mirajane looked away with a glare. She had a light blush on her cheeks.

She didn't like the teen in a romantic way. She just appreciated how he didn't see her as a demon despite her powers.

Despite Kageki's lack of speech and cold attitude, these four kids seemed to be attached to him. Any chance they got they'd talk to him or even ask to fight. When he was tasked to watch their missions, they'd try to show off to look cooler.

He wasn't aware of their feelings.......

Kageki thought for a second but didn't seem to mind. It's not like he had anything to lose.

"Sure." He placed his hand on the girls head. A gesture he's seen others do in the village to children.

Mirajane blushed profusely at the gesture. The others looked at her with jealousy.

"Me too! I can help watch over the egg." Erza put her fist to her chest. Volunteering to also help. Of course Gray volunteered also, and Natsu not wanting to be left out.

A small smile graced the teens stoic face.

"Okay."
