Hard Truths come to light

Isabella's POV

I sat beside Deckard, watching him closely as he woke up. His bruises weren't life-threatening, but they were a reminder of what we'd both been through. As his eyes opened, I couldn't help but smile and kiss him. His lips curled into a slight grin in return, and for a moment, everything felt okay. Despite everything that had happened, we still had each other.

We were lost in our own little world when Hobbs walked in, the authority in his posture and the handcuffs in his hands breaking the moment. My heart sank, but I knew this was inevitable. Hobbs was doing his job. As much as I hated it, I couldn't fault him. Hobbs looked at Deckard, and with a swift movement, he handcuffed him to the bed, leaving one hand free. I couldn't say anything. I knew Hobbs had his reasons.

Hobbs left without a word, and for a long time, I didn't focus on the comings and goings of the room. I was lost in thought, but soon the sound of footsteps caught my attention. Dom, Brian, and Hobbs came in.

Hobbs gave me a glance. His eye spoke volumes—silent warning, his gaze sharp. I could almost hear him saying don't try to run.

Then he said, "Deckard Shaw, you are under arrest for murder, and Isabella Shaw, you are coming with me."

I wasn't surprised. Of course, Hobbs would arrest me too. But I wasn't going to make it easy for him. Deckard spoke in that calm voice I loved, the one that held power and control despite the situation.

"Trust me, Hobbs," Deckard said. "I wasn't planning on running. Before you take Isa to be questioned, remember whatever she tells you, and you, Dom... you must listen to her."

Hobbs nodded, not saying anything, just turning toward me and commanding, "Come with me."

I didn't argue. I stood up, glancing at Deckard one last time before walking toward the door. Brian, Dom, and Hobbs followed me into a small, sterile room. I sat down, trying to steady my nerves.

"Start the questions if you want," I said, my voice steady, though my stomach churned.

Hobbs wasn't in a hurry. "I'm waiting for the lie detector," he said, and I nodded. No point in resisting. I didn't have anything to hide.

When the machine arrived, Hobbs began. "Is your name Isabella Maria Shaw?"

I answered quickly. "Yes."

"Were you born before 1989?"

"Yes."

Hobbs's voice was steady, businesslike. "Were you close with Dom?"

I took a deep breath, looking at Dom who sat across from me. "No," I said firmly. "We were never close after what happened to my twin brother, and after Vince almost tried to sexually assault me. Lucky for me, I kicked Vince hard, and I tried to tell Dom. He didn't believe me, so I stopped trying to repair our relationship."

I felt a pang in my chest as I spoke the words aloud. It was still hard to believe Dom could've ignored something so horrible. But it was the truth. And I wasn't going to lie.

Hobbs's next question was sharp. "Do you blame your brother?"

I laughed bitterly. "For what? Not believing me? For assuming I would turn out like my brother? Yeah, I blame him for that. Or for everything that happened when you guys went after Owen Shaw—my brother-in-law, by the way, who's badly hurt because of you all. All because Dom loves Letty. Yes, I blame all of you for throwing him out of a plane after he saved my life when someone tried to kill me."

Hobbs stopped asking questions, and for a moment, it was just silence. Then Dom spoke up, his voice filled with that same defensiveness he always had.

"I love Letty, and I waited for her. I didn't care about what happened to the Shaws."

I couldn't hold back anymore. "I know you love Letty, Dom. But that doesn't excuse you throwing a man who has a family out of a plane. You are the reason for this war, and I have my reasons for coming after you. I wanted to hurt you, just like you hurt me by not believing me about Vince forcing me to marry him. Or when you wouldn't let me say goodbye to my brother. You never believed in me, Dom. You thought I didn't marry Deckard to make you mad, but I did it because we fell in love. He saved my life more times than you, and yet you still think you can come in here and say you don't care about anyone but yourself and your family?"

Dom didn't say anything after that. He just looked away, the weight of my words hanging in the air.

Hobbs shifted uncomfortably. "Last question. Would you ever forgive your brother?"

Before I could answer, Dom interrupted. "Is the marriage real, Isa?"

I clenched my jaw, frustrated by the question. "Oh, again with this marriage thing? Yes, it's real. We were planning to start a family before you threw Owen out of the plane. And as for the last question... maybe, it depends. Now, is this over? Because I'd love to get back to my husband."

Hobbs glanced at Dom, who was still brooding. "Toretto, the marriage is real. I got the record of who was there and who officiated the wedding."

Brian grabbed Dom and pulled him out of the room, but Hobbs turned back to me. "I'm sorry for what we did, Isa. We had to, but I'm sorry. And Dom asking about your marriage... I know it annoys you. But I get it. You love him."

I didn't say anything. There was nothing more to say. Hobbs led me back to Deckard, and when I saw him, I didn't care who was in the room. I walked right up to him and kissed him passionately, the kiss deep and full of everything we had been through. Hobbs left without a word, and Dom and the gang, though visibly uncomfortable, stayed silent. The only ones who seemed to smile were Letty and Brian.

"I'm ready for whatever comes next," I thought, knowing that everything we had gone through was just the beginning.

Author's Note:

In this chapter, we learn Dom has no real guilt over Owen's injury because he had Letty, and he never believed Isa about Vince's assault. Dom's unresolved issues with Isa's marriage to Deckard stem from his fear that she could become like her brother Jakob. His doubts about their marriage cause tension, which annoys everyone, including Letty, Brian, and even Hobbs, who eventually call him out.

I also want to acknowledge and respect survivors of sexual assault. Isa's story includes her near assault by Vince, who initially seemed capable of such actions, as seen with Mia in the first film. However, Vince has since changed—he's married and has kids, showing his growth, but his past still affects Isa.
