Chapter 6 - Now Is The Time

Winter Shadow's POV

We didn't flinch.

"What the hell was that?" The Winter Solider was as confused as I was. We crept over to a nearby shrub and hid behind it, watching our surroundings.

We could hear a distant argument coming from the mansion. Sounds of glass shattering and swears in Spanish came closer each second.

"No más!" We heard someone yell. A small group of people were surrounding Fernando as he was stepping backwards onto his lawn.

"Estamos cansados! Cada día, lo que es más importante para usted, es los productos! Tenemos que cuidar a los productos todo el día!"
(We're tired! Every day, what's most important for you is the products! We have to take care of the products all day!)

One of the many of them said while another was backing Fernando out onto his lawn with a gun pointed at his chest.

Some of the other people there were saying something about him being reckless and unthoughtful, forgetting that they have lives of their own. Our guess was that they had worked for Fernando in his house for a long time.

"Desde cuando viste una agente de HYDRA haciendo algo, es como todo lo demás ya no era importante, incluyendo nuestros vidas."
(Ever since when you saw a HYDRA agent doing something, it's like everything else was no longer important, including our lives.)

The man looked to be about thirty or so, he also looked drunk, as the others around him were trying to persuade him to lay off. Fernando just stared at him, a look of both terror and anger on his face.

Fernando finally spoke up. "No te entiendes lo que estoy haciendo! Ya vienen..."
(You don't understand what I'm doing! They're coming...)

Shit

He probably figured out what we were doing, and knew we would come here. What I didn't understand is why HYDRA didn't send us to retrieve the weapons. From the sounds of it, that's exactly what Fernando had predicted.

"No importa! No me duerme para tres días! Tres días! Tengo una família"
(It doesn't matter! I haven't slept in three days! Three days! I have a family.)

The man shot the gun up, causing the other people to run off down the street, horrified of what could come. Fernando watched worriedly as they ran.

I glance at the Winter Soldier, he was thinking the same thing. The plan wasn't to kill Fernando today, but now was the perfect opportunity, there were only two people. We would just have to wait for the right moment to strike.

"No más de sus excusos estupidos. Me terminó contigo, no quiero trabajar para usted un minuto más."
(No more of your stupid excuses. I'm done with you, I don't want to work for you for a another minute.)

"What should we do, should we kill the other guy, or wait for him to leave." The Winter Soldier looked over at me for a brief second to make sure I heard him.

"Let's finish them both off, I'm tired of waiting here." I said slowly standing up.

"Antonio, n-"

Before he could finish, The Winter Soldier shot the other man three times in the chest. Before Fernando could act, I stab him in the neck, causing him to collapse onto the pavement. Before I activated the taser, he spat blood, and weakly, but angrily spluttered "you're too late."

I jabbed my finger onto the taser button, electrocuting him and killing him.

All of a sudden a scream filled the almost silent air. We both look up to see a woman, Fernando's wife, kneeling on the balcony above us, screaming at the top of her lungs at the sight of her murdered husband.

The Winter Soldier didn't hesitate, and shot her as well.

As we began heading for our motorcycles to get away from the crime scene, a large truck pulled up by the lawn. About ten HYDRA agents came out of the back of the truck, all running into the mansion.

"Go with them, find those weapons." An agent ordered us in Russian.

We quickly headed for the mansion. I headed through the front entrance while he entered through the back.

The other soldiers were already busy searching the place, leading me to wonder why we were also sent in. That was quickly answered for me, as despite the house looking so large from the outside, it was much, much larger on the inside, if that was even possible.

It was a beautiful five story house, with an old Spanish architecture. Every room was its own mystery.

A good fifteen minutes of wondering went by. I knew that I was continuously going in circles, as every time I'd take an new turn, I would just end up back in the main foyer. In hopes of finding something, I took out my goggles that the Winter Soldier had given me before. Maybe they could detect a keypad or lock of some kind to lead to an unknown room.

I examine every room I could find with absolutely no luck. I started with the bottom floor, hoping that I could find an entrance to a basement or something. I then checked around the top floor, hopefully finding an attic of some sort.

How could Fernando possibly find a place so discrete, that not even highly trained soldiers like myself could find anything.

Just as I was about to report myself in, a low voice spoke into my earpiece.

"I found something"

I recognized the voice of the Winter Soldier and tracked his whereabouts in the mansion. I hurry over to his location to find him standing near a small mantle in a trophy room. A broken vase lay shattered on the velvet carpet, with a small opening to another room hidden in the wall. When we entered the room, we were indeed, like Fernando said, too late.

The room was completely ablaze. Soon enough, the beautiful mansion would go down with it.

"The vase, it was the lever." The soldier stated, staring into the fully ignited room."

I nod slowly, hesitating to speak into my intercom to let HYDRA know that the weapons were gone. There's not a single chance that there could be anything left of Fernando's creations.

I hadn't realized I was still staring at the bright flames that would surely spread soon to the rest of the house, when the Winter Soldier was lightly tugging at my arm to get me to leave with him.

Had this been a failed mission? We were never ordered to retrieve any weapons in the first place, our only mission was to kill Fernando Banderas and any witnesses.

We hurry out of the house and to a HYDRA jet waiting for us outside. We took off back to D.C. as soon as possible, as the smoke from the fire was starting to become visible from outside.

The eight hour flight was a long one. I had inhaled a bit of smoke which was most likely the cause of my throbbing headache, which felt more like a migraine if anything. I let my ponytail loose and massaged my temples to ease the pain. Something was on my mind that I couldn't shake off, and it was intense enough to cause me to freeze on the spot like I did.

I had a flash of some sort of memory when I first saw the flames in the house. I, or someone else was jumping over a blazing fire, with two other people shouting a familiar name. It was absolutely terrifying. It felt all too real, like I'd been in that exact situation. Who, what, where and when were all I could think of, like that moment could've been my last, yet I was still here and unable to remember what exactly I saw.

My breathing had become heavy, I shut my eyes tight to try and forget what I was feeling.

"Stop it Stop being ridiculous!" I thought to myself. I had forgotten where I was, when a gentle hand touch my shoulder, causing my to jump and harshly grab onto the person's hand.

It was the Winter Soldier, he had grabbed my hand with his free hand, slowly putting it back down by my side.

"Hey, it's ok." He said calmly. "I just thought you'd might want this." He said, holding out an Advil.

I sigh and apologize for grabbing him. I grab a bottle of water and swallow the pill. I was overthinking everything again, something the HYDRA soldiers had noticed as they were eyeing me down. I knew I'd be getting wiped again once we got back.

I lay down on the floor of the jet. My gaze had wandered to the Winter Soldier. He was sitting on a seat a few feet away from me, downing a bottle of water. The same thoughts came across my mind from back in the cells. Who was this man? He was too familiar for it to be the first time meeting him, which became more obvious after that mission. Everything from his fighting style, his deep blue eyes, his mannerisms. Where had I seen him?

The same name I heard before was mentioned in that dream, by me. Right before I jumped over that fire, I screamed two names, one I had not heard before.

Steve... and Bucky.

Author's Note

Alrighty everyone, here's the new chapter. I apologize if the Spanish wasn't very good. I speak fluent Spanish, but I tend to mix stuff up sometimes.
