Yoongi was relatively a no-nonsense person. He would keep to himself. He mostly didn't entertain people who didn't pass his vibe. It was all in good terms, but he just preferred long walks in parks than a crowded noisy parties. It was his own rejuvenation time where thoughts ran free and shoulders sagged low.
And on one such night, he had met Jimin. He didn't have the slightest clue that one day, he would be harbouring feelings for that boy. Yes, Jimin was the only person Yoongi tolerated to the extent of falling for him. That was the reason for Yoongi to arrive early at this particular café. He had worn a baseball jersey and cap with grey jeans. Sitting by the window seat, he looked around to find it relatively empty.
"Hyung!"
Jimin's cheerful voice bounced off the walls, making Yoongi turn around.
"Hey, Jiminie!"
Yoongi waved to the boy, who had dressed himself in some black tight jeans and red jacket.
"I'll order some cappuccino for myself, so wait up."
Jimin spoke after crossing the length of the café.
"No need, I've already done it."
Yoongi smiled with twinkling eyes.
"Oh! Thanks Yoongi hyung."
Jimin smiled with his eyes in small crescents.
"Well, how have you been?"
Jimin asked as he sat on the seat infront of Yoongi.
"I'm good. What about you?"
Yoongi asked shuffling slightly on his seat.
"I'm great actually–"
Jimin answered, only to be interrupted by the waiter who came in to place their drinks on the table.
"Here's your order!"
The waiter spoke with a smile behind his own mask.
"Thanks."
Both the boys answered, soon
"So, tell me why did you ask me to meet you here?"
Yoongi asked as he sipped on the boba tea.
"Uh..."
Jimin started again, with a nervous undertone.
"So... Go on!"
Yoongi chirped up trying to make for Jimin's lack of usual mirth.
"I was recruited to the military yesterday. It'll start from next week. So, just wanted to meet you i guess. It's going to be two whole years. "
Jimin spilled, fiddling with the silver rings that sat prettily on his fingers.
"Oh! That's nice. I mean, don't be scared. It'll be fine. See, I'm still alive in front of you."
Yoongi spoke with a fake chuckle, catching himself before he slipped.
"I know hyung!"
Jimin whined, looking forward into Yoongi's eyes. The older only leaned forward to ruffle through Jimin's fluffy black hair in amused fondness. Oh man, Yoongi was going to miss this after he shaves his head.
"But, you wanted to tell something right?"
Jimin asked, remembering Yoongi's previous engagement.
"Nothing, don't worry. Let's just go for a walk?"
Yoongi dropped the subject effectively.
"Of course!"
Jimin answered with a full eye smile.
And so they did a little bit of wandering and talking. But Yoongi felt this deep sadness with him. He knew Jimin was no different than every other friend who had gone to the military. But he was special in the way only he could make Yoongi's heart feel happy and content.
Soon, the next week rolled by and Yoongi drove Jimin to the train station. Jimin looked different, yet still so handsome. The last of goodbyes and precautions were exchanged. This was mostly on Yoongi who kept fussing about Jimin's arrangements among other things while the other remained calm, smiling softly.
Yoongi got back home and to his life. But with Jimin not being around him, like their special weekend getaways or the nightly meme sharing or their daily calls of each other's day. Afterall they were best friends since five years.
But last year when he was in his own enlistment, he started having these feelings for the younger man. Jimin was someone who tapped his heart's strings into a tune that sung such melody that the great heaven's nymphs were jealous of such artistry. Yet he never realised them as feelings. Just affection of what a close friend would feel. The stubborn man never acknowledged their existence.
The months rolled by so quickly, it was December within a blink of the eye. Yoongi had managed to not feel for Jimin's presence as desperate as before. The younger was still on his mind, but pushed back since his own job was taking a toll on his time. It didn't mean the said feelings of longing and affection faded away.
Christmas was never Yoongi's thing. But Jimin would always pull him into stores and malls for the festivities. And so, Yoongi decided to abide by the made-up tradition in his own. So he went out to get some baking items and ingredients. Coming back home, he switched up the playlist to some soothing music as he prepared the cookies.
Finishing up with the whole process, Yoongi finally sat on the couch to watch the television. He brought with him the freshly baked cookies and hot chocolate. Fuzzy sweaters, sweet fragrance and the ambience of Christmas was all perfect for a day to relax. Until the TV showed up with the most horrifying news Yoongi had ever encountered.
"...As per reports, a collision of forces has caused a small war outbreak and caused the death of thirteen soldiers of our country. All of whom were part of the new recruitment in February. Their bodies will be sent to their kin in the coming days. The government has..."
The static voice of the news lady spoke through the falling off the half-bit cookie out of Yoongi's hand. His brain raced with thoughts, as that enlistment included Jimin. His Jimin. His mind blanked out, his tongue ran dry, his chest felt suffocated with lack of warmth. That likely meant a lot of things which Yoongi never dreamt of, even in his nightmares.
Yoongi had missed his chance. His chance of getting his act together for Park Jimin. He knew that. Too well as the thought embedded itself in his inner crevices of the mind. Yet, he held onto the hope that he would meet him again. And maybe he could finally let it out. But now, he had fully lost it. His crush was gone. Like he never existed. Disappeared into thin air or shredded into pieces.
The next day, Yoongi didn't get up from his bed. He couldn't help but lay and think of how the past day went by. He was so happy with the white Christmas, but then the news came in. And now possibly Jimin is dead. His phone beeped with messages. Upon unlocking the phone he found many of his friends asking 'Jimin? Okay?' or 'im sorry for your loss hyung. I know you were close.' This only confirmed his speculations.
Awake with thoughts, he hoped things were different. If only he could have manned up to spend more time with the other. In another universe where he could confess his deep unsaid feelings to his only pretty boy, Jimin. He wished to pour all that pure nectar-like love for Jimin. He hoped to live in that universe where he wasn't so reluctant and dismissive of his long brewing feelings.
Late at night, Yoongi heard a weary knock on his door. He hadn't called or invited anyone home. Harshly rubbing his bloodshot cat eyes, Yoongi grabbed onto the baseball bat beside the door before opening it. It was purely instinctual as he saw the threat of no one coming to his home late night.
With careful movements, Yoongi looked through the keyhole to see someone so familiar. So strangely warm. So uniquely tainted his. Without second thoughts, Yoongi banged open the only barrier between his favourite boy and himself. Lunging forward into Jimin's eagerly waiting body, Yoongi didn't think twice about anything in particular.
"Woah hyung! Slow down."
Jimin's roughed up voice spoke through the chuckling.
"Y-you are here. You a-aren't dead."
Yoongi mumbled as his head rested on Jimin's shoulders.
"Of course not. See I'm here and well. Not exactly well, cause I'm rolled up in dirt and sweat. Also maybe because I have a few cuts and bruises. But you get my point!"
Jimin excitedly showed his uniform, while Yoongi pulled away to simply stare at Jimin's glimmering eyes.
"Sorry for rambling."
Jimin spoke, after stopping suddenly as he realised the gaze on him.
"No don't be. I just missed this. Missed you. Don't go anywhere again."
Yoongi whispered as he pulled Jimin into a hug yet again.
"I'll try not to."
Jimin answered back with a small smile.
"I'm so glad you are here. With me."
Yoongi choked out softly, tightening his hold.
"Yeah, I'm glad too. Will you let me in now?"
Jimin teased as he patted Yoongi's back.
"Wait, why exactly are you here?"
Yoongi spoke up as the two of them walked back inside to Yoongi's room.
"I was let off a few hours ago. But I didn't want to go home alone. And yours was the nearest, so here I am."
Jimin answered sheepishly as he rubbed his neck.
"Take a bath, I'll just get you a few clothes."
Yoongi ordered, as Jimin got inside for a short shower.
Jimin saw his own face in the mirror only to find dirt, sweat and blood. He was glad he was alive. The fact that none of his recruited friends had to actually died gave comfort to his heart. Finishing up with his shower in ten minutes, he got out to find the clothes laid out nearly on the bed. Readying himself up Jimin walked to the kitchen.
"Hyung?"
Jimin called out sweetly as he found the older man boiling some milk and leftover oatmeal dish.
"Hmm..."
Yoongi looked up, humming in his deep calming voice.
"You didn't go to work? Also why are your eyes red? Did you cry?"
Jimin asked alarmed by Yoongi's red shot eyes that he hadn't noticed earlier in the dark. He had already seen Yoongi's bed fully made, his work bag nowhere to be found.
"I..."
Yoongi stumbled in his words.
"Hyung, did something happen at work?"
Jimin asked in a dangerously pleasing tone.
"No. I thought you were dead. T-the news told it like that. And I-I just couldn't handle it. I had plans with you. I wanted to... So I missed job for today. And cried as a bonus."
Yoongi chuckled through the tears as hie eyes betrayed him. Jimin, on the other hand, was stuck in his mind. His stomach dropped at the thought of Yoongi crying over him and his miscommunicated death.
"Sorry to pry, but what do you mean by plans?"
Jimin asked as he recovered from the shock.
"You. You were my plan. I have had a crush on you for months. But being the coward I am, i didn't exactly make it easy for myself. I thought I'll confess when you will get back. But then they said you were dead, and I just..."
Yoongi confessed lowly and finished by turning off the stove.
"It's okay hyungie. I think your plan can get back in action."
Jimin spoke blushing slightly. He wasn't one to hide when the truth was out. He had pinned over Yoongi's existence long enough to know that he really likes Yoongi.
"You– you mean..."
Yoongi stuttered looking at Jimin with wide eyes of shock.
"Cute. Yes, I mean it. I like you too. So, my first kiss?"
Jimin teased jokingly only to melt into the kiss that Yoongi offered.
Yoongi only leaned forward to wipe the other's smirk, while cradling Jimin's cute cheeks in both of his large hands. While Jimin only looped his hands around Yoongi's neck as he went deeper with the kiss that sealed their affirmation of feelings.
Yoongi pulled back with flushed cheeks of his own. Jimin glowed in the kitchen light's shadow like the shadow and Yoongi couldn't help but feel his heart shutter and flip with fondness and adoration.
"For being here with me."
Yoongi pecked Jimin's lips, all while caressing Jimin's freshly wounded skin.
"For getting back alive."
Yoongi met Jimin's lips again, while staring at Jimin with pure unadulterated love.
"Yes hyung. I'm safe here with you."
Jimin whispered, holding onto Yoongi's arms in silent confirmation.
"Most importantly, for loving me back."
Yoongi kissed Jimin softly, while the younger smiled into it at last.
"Dummy, you don't have to reason out each kiss."
Jimin laughed throwing his head back, making Yoongi fondly pet his wet hair.
"You know, i had to resist every urge not to kiss you when I saw you at the door. You don't know how I felt upon thinking a life without you."
The older giggled as he kissed Jimin again and again. This was just the beginning of the many more to come. Many more sweet loving kisses that was written in their stars. Jimin wasn't dead, he was alive, safe and well and his arms. That is all what matters to Yoongi.
