At some point of the life they lived, all of us have spent time pondering of the time they owned. It is quite insightful and can be equally painful. And it is rightly done so, as it gives a great insight of what we are. Of what we'll become. This was a healthy relationship that one can have with themselves. An ode to our own insignificant lives!
And, the Bangtan boys were no stranger to this. They advocated for good mental health and of course, this meant building themselves into better people for their fans to look up to. But unlike what the original concept asked for, they did so together. And being with each other for ten years together had the seven of them coming in closer, their spirits were high and emotional.
Jimin felt uneasy since the time he woke up. It wasn't the bad kind of buzzing in his ears, it was the excitement and pride for something he couldn't quite place a finger upon. Given that today was a rest day, he had gone out to meet his friends. Except they could only spend an hour with him for it looked like it would rain soon. And no one wants to go home soaking wet in their shoes or get stuck in the rain-induced traffic. So they parted ways on the promise of meeting soon.
Getting back home, it was quite boring since, Taehyung, Jungkook and Seokjin were playing their video games. And Jimin wasn't interested in that. Namjoon had gone to attend some meeting with their manager and would be back home in an hour or so. While Yoongi was out in the balcony talking to his parents on his phone. A video call to be precise because he missed his doggo, Holly as well.
This only left Hoseok who didn't have particular plans today, and so Jimin found the exact person who could put up with his boredom. Because Hoseok could make anything fun for him. Hopping off to their shared bedroom, Jimin found it to be closed. But nonetheless spoke through.
"Hyung, wanna do something fun?"
Jimin asked politely trying to keep his excited self in. He was just a happy soul today.
"Uh, Jiminie. I don't think I'll be able to join. I...am just."
Hoseok's deep voice could be heard from the other end of the door.
"Can I come in, hyungie?"
Jimin asked while placing his hand on the door knob.
"Oh..kay."
Hoseok hesitantly answered, and Jimin took that as a cue to enter. He didn't expect his hyung to be seated on the floor with many polaroids and photographs that the older had collected over the years.
As he looked around the room which was surprisingly in a little bit of a mess, his eyes caught hold of Hoseok's hands. The older was holding a photograph of the seven of them which was taken at the amusement park. The same one whose ticket was in Jimin's own wallet. Moving forward, Jimin noticed Hoseok sniffling lowly with red flushed cheeks.
In response to the sight, Jimin dropped beside Hoseok on the floor. He wrapped his arms around the other's vulnerable self and Hoseok slowly placed his head against Jimin's shoulders.
"Aww hyung, don't cry."
Jimin whispered, trying to wipe the tears off his hyung's face.
"I know, I'm just sad. Look Mimi, look at all of these photos. I would have missed out on all these memories with you guys if I had left that day. If kookie..."
Hoseok hicupped as the emotions just rushed past in his mind.
He was fearing the loss of the bond he shared. A bond that was fully formed based on uncalculated risks. And it was natural for him to even thinking this was different from the life he presumed to think when he was young. Or the life that would have taken place if he wasn't a BTS member.
"If kookie hadn't cried and held you back."
Jimin continued the other's words. Protectively he held Hoseok closer to his chest.
"Or what if we had gone with our plan of disbanding in 2018?"
Hoseok asked with a pout, as the tears seemed to make a comeback.
"Hyung..."
Jimin felt himself falling weak on thinking of 2018. It was indeed a difficult year for them. The way their future was uncertain. But it turned out to be something so beautiful and amazing for all of them.
"But Hoba, aren't we here right now? With so much to do with our lives. When we have accomplished so much with the love of our ARMY, it shouldn't bother you what could have."
A voice spoke in, with a slight tangy sweetness in the words. A voice so distinct of Seokjin.
Hoseok and Jimin whipped their heads to look at the oldest leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed.
"I know hyung. I'm just..."
Hoseok ended off with an uncertain voice. He looked like a kicked out puppy in the rain.
"It must be the Anniversary thing. Like every single time one of you get emotional."
Seokjin dismissed his own quivering voice with an excuse of it being the festivities.
"As if you didn't."
Jimin snickered through his own droplets of tears.
"Yeah you did last year to be exact, after looking at Namjoon and Yoongi sleeping on the bed."
Hoseok lightened up, laughing loudly upon remembering the event.
The oldest had finished his vocal practice and had returned home to see both the rappers sleeping soundly on the bed. They weren't cuddling like how the maknaes did, but they had a content sleepy smile which made Jin's face swell with adoration. Seeing them resting well did something to Seokjin's fragile heart.
"Oh don't be mean to me. Y'know how I get. It was just that I remembered how young they were when I used to prepare food for their college exams."
Seokjin justified his emotional baggage of last year.
He had ultimately ended up in Taehyung's room, blabbering about how the two were sleeping cutely. Taehyung had stroked his hair, wiped his tears and calmed him down to sleep.
"I know hyung. Can we get a movie night today?"
Hoseok asked with a pretty smile, which no one could reject.
Movie nights usually ended up with all of them sleeping in the living room, or drunk together or have rare bonding moments which aren't in the face of the public. Ones that only they could reminisce and rejoice over. Gatekeeping didn't feel selfish in the slightest for they were only for them.
"Yes, Yes, Yes please hyung."
Jungkook came in with a excited puppy yell with Taehyung right behind.
"Urgh! I'll order some takeout."
Yoongi piped in after finishing up his call. He seemed to be a little lost over why they were deciding on this impromptu movie night.
"Hyung, don't worry. I'll pay today just like old times."
Taehyung beamed with a boxy smile.
"Brat, you didn't even order when you were young."
This time it was Seokjin who furrowed his eyebrows in a joking manner.
With the plan in discourse, all of them dispersed from the room one by one to take up a job so that their night together was perfect. Only one member was missing and so Hoseok decided to call the leader for the movie night. All of them needed it desperately especially when the stress was reaching the roof.
"Joon-ah!"
Hobi's cheerful voice came through as the younger picked up the phone.
"Hey, what do you need?"
Namjoon asked, as the sound of rustling could be heard. A telltale of Namjoon packing up.
"Come home early tonight. Let's watch some movie."
Hoseok said, as he looked past the dining table to see all of the others engaged in some form of job.
"Kay will be back in an hour."
Namjoon assured before he cut the phone.
With an hour of setting up the livin'room with blankets, pillows, food of all sorts, Namjoon arrives a lot tired after the 40 minutes long meeting. Getting in place in between Jungkook and Hoseok, Seokjin took the remote to switch it on.
"Why did you choose this?"
Seokjin asked the two maknaes who were incharge of choosing the 'movie'
"So that we can have a recap of our life?"
Taehyung said innocently, as the scenes that played on the television were of themselves.
"Gukk-ah!"
Hoseok groaned at the oblivious choice of 'movie' that the youngest had selected.
"You know half of us will cry when we see our own movies. Either out of embarrassment or just coz of the happiness."
Namjoon loudly spoke out the truth, as he remembered how the boys had tears by the end of watching their Break The Silence movie.
"It's okay Namjoonie hyung, we can try."
Jimin patted the older's thighs in reassurance.
"Don't look at me."
Yoongi refuted as all eyes had turned towards him for affirmation.
With the ultimate nod from Yoongi, the playback videos was started.
"Aww... Jungkookie is so tiny and young."
Jimin gushed as the youngest made an appearance on the screen as his fifteen year old self.
"Hyung, did you scream at the wall?"
Taehyung asked amused by Namjoon doing the action in one of their Bangtan Bomb videos.
"I...I don't know why I did it."
Namjoon shyly blushed in embarrassment.
"Wooow!!"
Hoseok and Jungkook whistled loudly as the rare scene of a shirtless Seokjin came in.
"Aish shut up."
Seokjin yelled with a smile.
"Yoongi hyung!! You were so cool~"
Taehyung started off with heart eyes upon seeing Yoongi in the Boy In Luv post credits.
"Then what am I now?"
Yoongi asked with an offended look.
"Hot"
Taehyung piped in.
"Sexy!"
Hoseok excitedly added.
"Cutie"
Namjoon gushed over.
With each adjective put in, the other members nodded solemnely agreeing with it all, making Yoongi a flustered mess.
"Hoba, how many proposals did you get when you were in high school?"
Seokjin asked fully invested in their debut videos.
"What?... None?"
Hoseok answered quite confused by the question.
"An utter shame! Utter waste of heartthrob Hoseok. If you were in mine, I would have asked you out."
Seokjin muttered shaking his head in dismissal. The action combined with the words made Hoseok blush a hot deep red.
"See, I could have been a rapper as well."
Taehyung whined at the sight of himself effortlessly rapping Ddaeng at the muster show.
"Taehyungie, you should have chosen that before. By the way, I think you sing much better than all of us."
Jimin cuddled up against the other boy trying to make him less sad.
"Only because you said so."
Taehyung pouted making Jimin kiss his cheek with joy.
"Jimin-shi! When are we gonna get a glimpse of your washboard abs again?"
Jungkook asked teasingly as he rested his head against Seokjin's shoulders.
"Never. I don't think I have them anymore."
Jimin huffed with a chuckle.
"Liar. All of PTD concert you were the most naked of all of us."
Hoseok spoke in, with a smug smile.
"You superficial humans, all we have done is comment on stuff. Instead could have put a movie."
Yoongi disrupted their praising witha scoff. He thought they were gonna watch a sad angsty movie or some Republican action one. Not a replay of his own Bangtan life. Wherein he feels like he is bursting with emotions unlike in any movie.
"But I like this. I know we are all trying ...but I like us being silly!"
Jungkook pouted with a frown.
"Fine you big baby."
Yoongi whispered, as he himself couldn't see the sight of a sad Jungkookie. And above all, this recap felt nice. He loved them all, and that could be seen since the start of their career (in the passion of the eyeliners.)
And soon their session of gushing over each other began again. Lost in each other's presence and antics was afterall a life they fiercely enjoyed. Platonic or not, they were bound to be spending this night in front of the television forcefully fitting all of them in the single frame of the couch and floor laughing about the memories they created.
"Did you just feed Yoongi hyung a shell?"
Jimin asked Seokjin who was sipping on some coke. This made the other choke slightly, and also causing Namjoon to turn around instinctively to help the older.
"I was drunk!!"
Seokjin yelled jokingly over the laughter from all six of them.
"Jiminie, you sweet soul. You looked so sleepy and tired but still managed to make Hoseokie hyung's birthday nice."
Taehyung commented before clutching onto the smaller boy even tighter.
Soon the scenes that played had changed to their most dreaded performance, SBS year-end One Asia 2016 which changed the mood sourly.
"Ah! That was bad. Like we prepared for it and then they cancelled on us. Plus leader hyung was also not there. Seokjin hyungie was so stressed then."
Taehyung added as their younger selves danced with happy faces which hid disappointment and anger.
"I will never forgive those fuckers. All of ARMY had to stay behind only for our performance-"
Yoongi started off only to be stopped by Hoseok's hand on his shoulder.
But soon the cheers came in, as there was all of them looking fondly at Yoongi hit the high note in Mic Drop. It was unexpected and surely made Jungkook and Jimin turn their heads, but it was nice seeing the happiness that radiated. With that it moves forward to more silly Seokjin and Jungkook banters, Taehyung, Hoseok and Namjoon's unique beatboxing, Jimin and Yoongi's shootguard basketball game.
There were more and more which made each of them laugh and cry out of happiness as the recollection made their hearts swell. Three whole hours had passed like this, and Hoseok yawned indicating his tired drowsiness.
"Namjoon-ah, what are you thinking?"
Yoongi asked as he found the other unexceptionally silent.
"Just seeing you guys being like this makes me feel happy and content. I don't ever want to lose this bond."
Namjoon smiled with his dimples out.
After all the rough treatment from the people they once adored and looked up to, this felt right. They deserved the joy and respect they were receiving at the moment. They deserved each other truly, as they were afterall they made it through together.
The change within was welcomed by all the boys as this was what they had been striving for. The hardships from the start of it all was quite disappointing to their young souls. But they were each other's safety net. The one that protected the other from all possible harm and hatred. They were each other's key to happiness.
They had devoted their entire youth in making music and building a career. But it was not just music that they advocated. They brought forward concepts of self-love, happiness and dreams under the single name of their discography. They had made it all possible from saving their broke company to being the pride of many million people across the world.
Their peers of the industry mostly had to fight for the top award in the music bank shows but somehow they emerged to represent their culture and country in front of the entire world. And that was huge, for they had truly paved the path where no one had walked before. They had put in their all to be where they were. Only their painfully sweet blood, sweat and tears in the process.
Being the first in so many did have its ill effects on them. The stress was unwelcomed, but that was all worth it at the end. For at the end of it all, at the end of the journey, at the end of their walk on the flower path, they were present together forever. Eternally graved into the hearts and minds of many they had accomplished it afterall!
Namjoon simply leaned against Taehyung's shoulders to rest after having thought about all of this. Jimin took charge to making their beds on the floor of the living room so as to accomodate all of them. It was an unseen telepathy as they decided they wanted to sleep together huddled up in close space just like old times. Except now the place had gotten bigger and yet, they chose to risk back ache and lack of movement to spend that time together even in their dreams.
So many years in, all of BTS remember the experience of their joyful youth. And honestly speaking this was the best movie night. Limbs outstretched, nightly dreams weaved and lazy snores let out. This was perfect. They were perfect. Perfect together.
This picture has my whole heart. And also the inspiration for this oneshot.
