Beomgyu and Yeonjun hated each other's guts. Hated the way they were so similar yet different. It wasn't just hate, but another feeling that none of their classmates could point it out to. They held a grudge for some reason that none of the others knew. It all started with the both of them fighting for their position of being the captain...was what everyone thought.
But the truth was that they were ex-boyfriends.
They had bitterly broken off, with a promise of never seeing each other ever again. But it seemed like the heavenly fate had plans unknown to unite them after two whole years at college as roommates. And now as they faced each other daily, they hated how each of them had learnt to live without the other. At one point on their life it had all been different, where they couldn't stop getting addicted to each other's touch. But now they despised it with their whole being.
The pair passed nasty comments just to rile up the other. All in attempts of finding that closure of their breakup which broke them inside. Facing away fro each other, they mostly spent their time as far away from the other as possible. It was the only thing keeping them sane enough to even be breath in the same room.
Beomgyu sat with Seokmin on the roof, upon the younger's request. It was a lazy Sunday at the hostel dorms, and so the younger had thought of a brilliant plan to spend their time idly. Both had blankets huddled around their fragile bodies to protect it from the cold gusts of winds.
"Min? Can't we go in? It's cold."
Beomgyu whined as he hid under his thick brown comforter.
"I mean we could, unless you want to hear my roomates bicker and then fuck on the couch?"
Seokmin nonchalantly spoke all while nursing his cup of hot chocolate.
"What the fuck?"
Beomgyu asked with shock and confusion.
"Don't ask me either, they keep complaining about each other's everything. But, one day I found them making out. And they explained that it was a one time thing."
Seokmin answered after sipping on his drink.
"Then?"
Beomgyu asked as he pulled his comforter closer to his body.
"Well, it clearly wasn't. And now they go around saying both of them had their socks on, so no homo."
Seokmin giggled at the so obvious excuse of his roommates.
"Ugh! Can't we go to my room?"
Beomgyu asked with clattering teeth.
"Hell no! So that I can see you guys fight?"
Seokmin voiced out loudly.
"Okay, now why did you call me?"
Beomgyu sighed as he was sure that the younger wouldn't budge to go in. Away from the cold gusts of wind.
"Just wanted to spend some time with you!"
Seokmin spoke with puppy eyes on display.
"I don't believe you."
Beomgyu tsked at the attempts made by the shorter boy.
"Okay, and to talk about your oblivious crush on Yeonjun."
Seokmin twisted his mouth in fake anger.
"Who? That Choi Yeonjun?"
Beomgyu asked, perplexed by the name.
"Yeah you're crush. Like the tension between you guys is just hot and all, but it's frustrating y'know?"
Seokmin spoke with genuine interest.
"No way is that fucking guy my crush!"
Beomgyu huffed at the ridiculous accusations. Even if his heart still felt soft and warm at Yeonjun's gaze.
"Then you wouldn't mind if I ask him out, would you? He is so handsome and caring. He is a really cool guy too. He is so kind, and he loves animals. Good sportsman, nice academic skills and most of all, pretty lips. A two in one deal, yeah?"
Seokmin asked with dreamy eyes and red cheeks. The redness wasn't the blush as Beomgyu presumed, it was just the biting cold.
"Will you fucking stop it?"
Beomgyu questioned, gritting his teeth.
"Why? Itritated that I'll be getting down with your oh-so boyfriend?"
Seokmin smirked playfully.
"No, I hate him. That's why!"
Beomgyu glared at his best friend. If looks could kill, the younger would be dead meat.
"So, you wouldn't mind if I kissed him, under the moonlight shadow? Or if he hugged him around my waist? Or even if I slow danced with him at prom?"
Seokmin exaggerated his words, with the obvious intention of angering the oblivious Beomgyu. But he didn't get any reaction per se.
"Okay then, I'll go ask him out!"
Seokmin spoke as he got up to get in through the window. And soon he was out of view leaving beomgyu in his trance of nothingness.
Beomgyu wondered what had gone wrong. It was just their immature and inexperienced selves who romanticized the idea of romance to the extent of it being one that existed only in fiction. And when they couldn't get that they blamed it on the other, soon breaking the cracks, instead of fixing it with gold.
"NOO!"
Beomgyu spoke as he registered the words. He didn't want Seokmin to be one his ex-boyfriend's present boyfriend. He just didn't. There was no other logical reasoning in his brain as of now.
And so he got up to chase the younger, but it seemed like things didn't always go as planned. He slipped by the edge of the blanket that had once wrapped his body. As soon as he felt himself slipping off, he gripped onto the raised sill of the roof. But his fingers were frozen cold to even hold at it with enough strength to support his body.
All of it was in a fast motioned video. His blankets breaking away from his grip, the words getting caught in his throat, his eyes falling shut as he tried to reduce the impact of the harsh fall. His brain was running in gears of how his body would be injured maybe a few bruises, cuts and even a fracture. What if he needed stitches and surgery? He hadn't paid for his health insurance to make for the hole in his pocket. And so he fell down the roof ledge on to the ground.
Yeonjun was lazing around while watching some random YouTube videos, when he heard the click of his door. As he turned his head, he saw his ex-boyfriend, Beomgyu going out with his friend. It wasn't like he cared or wanted to make sure the one who shan't be named was safe. He just liked keeping track of his roommates. That's all.
Deeply engrossed in the video for a whole ass hour, he had ignored the need of water in his body. And so he reached forward to his table for the bottle. As he did so, he got the clear view of the dorm rooms beside through the windows. What stood out, was Beomgyu slipping from the roof top.
"How the heck did he get there?"
Was one of the prominent question among the others. But he didn't have much time, and so he ran out barefoot to help the boy who was about to fall down. It didn't matter what they were or what they are. Beomgyu's safety always mattered to Yeonjun even if they were bitter by nature.
It took about 2 minutes to reach the opposite side of the dorm, but Yeonjun raced in by seconds. The empty hallways echoed with the harsh footsteps of Yeonjun, yet it was not the least concern of the black haired boy. Upon reaching the place, he saw Beomgyu on the last of his fall onto the ground. So he rushed forward to catch hold of the slipping boy in his arms.
As the impact of the fall was larger than expected, Yeonjun fell onto his knees with Beomgyu in his arms. The other had his eyes closed forcefully with shivering arms. Yeonjun could only stare at the delicate darling in his arms without a care in the world. His knees had definitely scraped along the cemented floor, but it didn't matter.
"My baby, are you alright?"
Yeonjun asked as he shook Beomgyu to open his eyes. Beomgyu looked like the sleeping beauty who would only wake up when his ex-boyfriend would kiss him awake.
"J-jun?"
Beomgyu rasped out, upon opening his eyes to find the worried face of Yeonjun. He felt his body being jelly from panic. He expected to break some bones or even worse end up with some concussion, but all he felt was the warmth and comfort of the black haired boy.
"Let's get you inside."
Yeonjun whispered as he gathered the younger boy in his arms, with the blanket clutched in his fists. He would by pass the cold war for today at least.
Yeonjun felt his heart's strings tug as the younger had fisted his hands into Yeonjun's yellow sweater with a calm expression washing over his earlier panicked face. The younger had closed his eyes again but this time with relaxed smile as he was engulfed by the older's tangy citrus fragrance. That was his comfort place even if they had moved on from past two years.
Yeonjun kicked open the door gently, and walked further to settle the cold boy on his bed. He held onto Beomgyu for a little while and when he was sure the other was safe in his bed, he retreated back.
"Junie, no d-don't. Stay!"
Beomgyu whimpered softly in his panicked safe state.
"Yeah baby...I'll just set some things up, okay?"
Yeonjun whispered as he patted the younger's hair gently. The urge to kiss the other's forehead was huge, but Yeonjun had let himself slip when he muttered the unintentional baby.
Yeonjun got up quickly to lock the door, get the fallen brown comforter which he himself had gifted Beomgyu three Christmases ago, fetch a glass of water and lastly collect himself after all the panic. After his motivational self-talk, he went back to Beomgyu's bed to stay by his side.
But the younger had different plans as he silently pulled Yeonjun onto the bed beside him. It wasn't like the red haired boy was intoxicated or concussed to even do this. This was willfully his decision to lay on Yeonjun's chest. With a small smile, Yeonjun budged for he thought Beomgyu was still scared. Even if two years had passed by, it didn't feel foreign to sleep beside each other.
"Gyu, how did you end up there? What would have happened if you fell and..."
Yeonjun whispered lowly, petting the other's red hair, totally not expecting an answer to be exact. By his one free hand, he covered the blanket over the two of them.
"Hyung...why did you come save me?"
Beomgyu gruntled as he looked up from his place. He looked confused yet determined.
"Baby, I don think that question arises. I adore you. I wouldn't have forgiven myself if something did occur!"
Yeonjun spoke as he caressed Beomgyu's cheeks with his large hands.
"Yeonjun, I don't want you to become someone else's. You are mine."
Beomgyu whispered, a little delirious in his words.
"I know Gyu. We had been stupid back then, and we might still be. But what remains is I still want you. I don't want to be in this cold war with you."
Yeonjun begged as he looked straight into the other's doe eyes.
"I have loved you. I will love you. I love you."
Beomgyu confessed as he held onto Yeonjun's sweater.
Yeonjun would bring it up later on when they were clear of the worry and fear. Beomgyu didn't want this comfort he found wrapped around them to evaporate right now, and so held on tighter closing his eyes into a nap.
They would get better. Better at being their individual selves in the relationship they shared. Better at making decisions that didn't cost two years. Better at being each other's lovers. But that was for later, now all that mattered was the peacefulness that enveloped their space so beautifully.
