(a/n : chapter not proofread)

Alhaitham opened his eyes to find himself in a blank space; an empty endless void. He looked around as he tried recollecting what had happened but soon realized he was in a dream.

He never knew, he could dream. Dreams were something that he hadn't seen after his carefree days as a little boy.

He took a few steps back and forth as he inspected the realm of a dream. He felt completely new to the concept of it. As he continued to walk forth and enlighten his curiosity, he heard a voice of a man.

"Don't worry about them, Elina" Upon hearing the familiar name, Alhaitham tried looking for the source of the unknown voice.

"Who's there." Alhaitham asked out coldly only to hear his own voice echoing back to his ears. As his ears rang in pain, he covered them with his hands. His sensitive ears couldn't deal with the echoes of his own voice.

The mysterious voice once more spoke out, "To the people, we are sinners. We were never meant to be in love due to how cruel both our families were to both the kingdoms in the past."

Alhaitham looked around in all directions but it was empty. The voice sounded like two people were having a heart felt conversation, yet he couldn't understand the complete context of it. He simply chose to listen to till he could arrive to a conclusion.

"I'm...tired as well."

"Being rational never solved all my problems, so please..."

"So please..let's go together."

Suddenly Alhaitham heard a voice of a woman from behind him. He immediately turned around to the voice only to be met with Y/n. He noticed how her eyes were dull and no brightness was seen in them. An illusion, he had concluded.

"You'll wait for me in the next hell as well, right?" She spoke out which startled him slightly as she was looking at him. Her [e/c] eyes and his teal eyes were in a complete lock.

It was all fine until he saw another illusion of himself walking right past him towards the illusion of Y/n.

He saw his illusion hold Y/n's hands in his as he parted his lips to speak,

"Not just hell, I would wait for you in every life. I will love you, cherish you and never let you feel hurt ever again."

"Thank you, Hayi." The illusion of Y/n spoke out as she leaned towards him. Alhaitham only blinked for a second and the two illusions had already disappeared. A sudden shiver went behind his spine as he slowly felt the air getting heavier each moment.

"Alhaitham." A familiar voice called out for him but he couldn't speak. His voice had completely silenced itself.

"Alhaitham!"

"Wake up!"

.

.

.

Alhaitham jolt awoke from his nightmare as he began gasping for air. He only then noticed Y/n sitting right beside him as she held his hand firmly. Upon seeing her, he did feel a little relieved that she was unharmed but he had not recovered from the shock.

"Are you alright? Does your head hurt? We fell down from quite the height..." Y/n asked in a low tone as she looked at the endless ceiling. Alhaitham did not respond back verbally as he only gave her a small nod. He looked back at her once he had processed the entire situation.

This time, her eyes shone with the brightness and determination; the very same ones he had been infatuated with for years. The one beside him was the real Y/n.

"Wherever we are right now, We need to wrap things up soon. I have a feeling something is wrong." Alhaitham said as he got back up on his two feet as he was left with an uneasy feeling.

He was no fool, he knew there was a connection between the dream he had seen and the current situation the two were in. Although he wished to somehow disregard his own reasoning, he couldn't.

The Queen, Elina and Y/n must have some connection, so does Hayi and he, unless it was an illusion with no meaning to it; a warning.

"I suggest we go over to that building." Y/n pointed towards a half ruined building that comparatively looked better than the rest. It appeared like a temple from the outside.

Alhaitham quickly agreed as the two began walking towards the temple.

.

.

.

Y/n was quiet. Too quiet that the silence was too awkward. Alhaitham noted this in his head as Y/n continued to look at the damaged buildings on the way, observing it all.

The houses and buildings surely appeared as if there was a massive war that might have broken out years ago but that wasn't what troubled Alhaitham.

Y/n's complete silence did.

For the past many weeks of them travelling, they used to constantly bicker, argue and debate over topics but right now it felt cold.

"Did something happened to you while I passed out?" Alhaitham vocalized his doubt to Y/n who broke out her train of thoughts and looked at him. Her lips parted to respond but she once more reconsidered her tone. It was not gone unnoticed by him.

"No, I...Didn't. Is there any problem?" Y/n asked him with uncertainty laced to her tone. He only sighed and proceeded to walk forward, letting himself know he was unnecessarily thinking too much.

As Y/n looked at his figure walking forward without responding, she had a feeling that Alhaitham too had seen something similar to hers. If she had told Alhaitham what she plans on doing, she was sure, he would disagree.

But if the two of you had to get out of here safe and alive, the only way was to liberate the spirits of the people who once used live here. To break the curse and let them go.

If Y/n didn't do that, she was certain the moment they leave the ruins, Alhaitham would be in grave risk of being alive.

.

Upon entering the temple, Alhaitham and Y/n began looking around wondering if there were any scripts that they could decipher to know more about what had happened. Of course, high priests must have held some sort of manuscripts to pass on.

At the hall of the temple, there were three pillar like mechanisms that seemed to be some sort of energy transmitter. Y/n immediately recognized it's purpose as she was informed by Azro. Now was not the time for Y/n to act, she still had to distract the man.

"Alhaitham, could you hold onto this book for me?" Y/n asked out as she handed out a book to him. Upon receiving it and reading the title, Alhaitham looked at Y/n.

"Don't worry, it's completely blank. I decided to use it as a personal note and wrote down a few notes. It is quite heavy so I ask you to hold onto it for me." Y/n said as she convinced Alhaitham. He had his own doubts as she had carried it for a while with her but he chose not to question.

The two walked towards another room which appeared to be completely in ruins. On a desk like furniture, Alhaitham noticed a very dusty book. He carefully picked it up and called out for Y/n who was looking something else.

"Y/n, take a look at this."

The woman walked towards him as she noticed the a very old book in his hands. She peeked over to see what was written but couldn't read them.

"What does it say?" She asked curiously. Alhaitham's teal eyes carefully read line by line.

"I cannot translate this completely but it is a journal. Something about black flames, death and aftermath. After these, the written sentences are not clear." Alhaitham said as he pointed out the worn off ink and yellow pages.

"Is that so...I suppose we should go around and check if we can find anything else." Y/n responded back to Alhaitham who had put the worn out book into a bag safely for the purpose of an evidence.

.

Walking down back to the hall of the temple where the three mechanisms stood exactly at the center of the building. Suddenly Y/n paced up towards the mechanisms as she tried interacting with it.

"Y/n-! What are you doing?" Alhaitham asked out of concern, slightly panicked. The mechanism suddenly activated up, as it sent a beam of energy into the ceiling.

Y/n turned around and looked at Alhaitham, giving him a reassuring smile, "I need to do something before we leave from here, don't worry about it. I'll be done in a while." She responded back as a strong hydro elemental wall separated him from her.

A lot of dark spirit like creatures began coming out from their hiding spots as they were attracted towards the energy of the mechanism. The man noticed it and began panicking as he raised his voice.

"Don't be reckless! This is clearly hazardous, let's go!" Alhaitham shouted but he couldn't cross over the elemental barrier.

Y/n only sighed heavily, "Hey! trust me! I know you are confused but...let's say I'm trying to fix a mistake I had done in my previous life according to these spirits. Only then can the two of us leave this place safely." She responded back as she began using her hydro vision to to transmit the energy and liberate the souls.

"Y/n..." Alhaitham muttered as he looked at her. His dream was right. Y/n was heard talking in the stead of Elina, because she was her reincarnate. If that was right, it was right of him to assume himself as the reincarnate of Hayi.

Suddenly a loud sound was heard from the mechanism as more spirits came out from hiding all together at the same time. The ground trembled and buildings collapsed due to the collective force of them all coming out.

Alhaitham was very alarmed about it as he noticed the Ruin breaking apart slowly. "Y/n! We need to go, now." He spoke stubbornly as he stood there.

Y/n did not move but stood there still, as she knew what was happening but she couldn't back off from this. It was her only shot to change and prevent things from continuing on in an endless loop.

"Y/n!" Alhaitham shouted in anger to which Y/n didn't respond. She didn't know how to let the man know but if he didn't deserve to die here. He had to return back to Sumeru City to at least prove her thesis so no other future scholar takes another risk to come back here.

She mustered all her courage and looked at his brilliant teal emerald eyes as she spoke,

"Leave now, Alhaitham. You should get out of here quickly!"
