Xaden continued to bounce little Danielle in his arms, a wide grin on his face. It had been an hour since she was born, and an hour of her constantly crying. Aodham had urged Blair to try and find a way to stop the incessant crying, and Xaden had stepped up to ask if he could hold her.

Immediately after Blair passed him the baby, Danielle calmed down enough to fall asleep. So here Xaden was, grinning down at the little babe that remained asleep in his arms, sat in the chair next to Blair who had recently fallen asleep. Xaden had urged her to try and sleep, as she had been up for a full twenty-four hours. She needed sleep.

The little four-year-old, despite his young age, was wise beyond his years. Something that Blair adored about him. He was always looking out for his family, and Blair. For some reason Aodham didn't like the little child, and it was obvious the feeling was mutual. When Aodham had insisted that Blair calm the babe, instead of Xaden, the child had quickly glared up at the adult. Blair was obviously tired, and Aodham was ignoring that because of some petty hate for a four-year-old?

When Blair had handed Danielle to Xaden Aodham stormed out on a scoff, slamming the door behind him and causing Blair to flinch. Xaden was quick to press the babe to his chest, securing his grip around her before placing a gentle hand on Blair's in a soothing manner.

Blair smiled gently, patting Xaden's hand once before settling back into the pillows. She had soon drifted off to sleep, the exhaustion of being up for more than twenty-four hours finally hitting her.

Danielle quietly whined, eyes fluttering open to reveal beautiful silver eyes. A toothless giggle passed her lips when her eyes met Xaden's, chubby hands reaching up to him. Xaden grinned, grabbing one of her little hands in his. Danielle clutched onto his hand for dear life, a stronger grip than Xaden had anticipated for such a small infant. White lashes that matched the tuffs of white hair on her head fluttered a few times, once, twice, a third time before sleep became too strong to deny.

Twenty minutes passed and her grip didn't lessen on his hand, not that Xaden would complain. Loud stomping sounded from outside the door, heading towards them and waking up Blair. The door swung open, Aodham stepping through the threshold with a fierce glare zeroed in on Xaden.

Several steps toward Xaden were matched with several steps back, a harsh glare that rivaled Aodham's settling on his face. Xaden, although so young, could feel the waves of danger emanating from the adult male. Aodham continued to glare, holding his arms out expectantly for the infant in his arms. Xaden's glare intensified, tucking Danielle further into his chest. He wasn't going to give her to him as long as his aura remained what it was; pure danger.

"Honey, Danielle's asleep-"

"Give me my daughter." Aodham snapped cutting off his wife completely with his arms still out. Xaden shook his head, ducking out of his way when Aodham lunged for the babe. The adult growled loudly, a sound so harsh and animalistic that it woke Danielle, causing the newborn to start crying again.

Aodham, glare reaching a dangerous intensity, lunged once more for the babe in Xaden's arms. Xaden side-stepped quickly, ducking under his swinging arm as Blair sprung from the bed and stepped between her husband and the four-year-old Xaden.

With Blair between them, desperate to calm her husband, Xaden gently rocked and bounced Danielle in his arms until her wails stopped and she fell back asleep.

"Your daughter is trying to sleep, and you woke her up! You made her cry! I don't know what the hell is wrong with you, but you need to cut it out!" Blair was quick to snap, shoving her husband a good two steps back. Aodham's expression remained the same, glaring harshly at Xaden. He wanted his daughter.

Aodham softly shoved Blair to the side, shooting her a quick apologetic look to her as she stumbled, and leapt at Xaden.

A loud roar shook the manner, and Aodham stumbled into the wall as Xaden dodged once more. "You. Will. Not. Touch. Her." Xaden snapped, glaring harshly as Blair reached his side. Another roar, a dragon's roar, caused all heads to snap to the window - where three shadows circled the manor.

------

Xaden gently bounced Danielle in his arms, the newborn now awake, and giggling the more attention Xaden gave her. Clicking his tongue like Xaden had seen his aunt do, Xaden made silly faces to the little babe, who continued to giggle.

Blair and Aodham moved before him, descending the stairs as quickly as they could. As soon as they all recognized the roars and the shadows outside the window as dragons, Aodham had abandoned his efforts in trying to wrench Danielle from Xaden's arms. He wasn't going to give up the babe. A weird feeling had filled his chest when Aodham had tried to take Danielle from him.

It wouldn't be until he was eight that he would recognize that reeling to be protectiveness.

Danielle giggled, tiny hand reaching up at Xaden's face, fingers brushing the skin under his eyes. Even as such a young baby, she was curious about his eye-color. A beautiful combination of gold and onyx, dancing together like tiny stars in the sky. It intrigued the tiny human.

When they all reached the ground floor, Xaden stopped altogether. That weird feeling stirred in his chest, awakening and strengthening like a large, enraged dragon snarling down at something. There was no way he was going outside to meet some dragons that could hurt Danielle...

He couldn't care less if the dragons burned him alive, his life was nothing compared to the little giggling bundle in his arms.

Blair stopped when she noticed Xaden had halted, urging Aodham to go ahead. When Aodham exited, Blair moved to stand before Xaden.

"What's wrong, Xady?"

Xaden flinched, nervously bouncing Danielle in his arms as he pondered her question. "I... I don't want her hurt..." He said truthfully. No reason to lie to the one person he adored beside his parents, his aunt, cousin, and his best friend. She was Danielle's mother, lying to her was pointless.

Blair smiled, a soft look settling in her gaze as she knelt to reach Xaden's height, placing a hand on his head.

"Has your father taught you anything about what happens when a Fyr is born?"

Xaden nodded, thinking back to what he had learned approximately three weeks prior.

"Father said when a Fyr is born, their soul is split and merged with their dragon, creating a bond that no one will ever begin to understand."

Blair nodded, smiling with pride. The mother pointed toward the door, voice soft. "Beyond that door is Danielle's dragon; her other half. Her dragon would never dare to hurt her."

Xaden puffed out his cheeks in frustration, eyes narrowing slightly at the floor beneath his feet. "But what about the other two dragons? There were three shadows in the sky! Three separate dragons! What if the other two hurt her?!"

Blair placed her hand back down on Xaden's head, heart warming at Xaden's obvious care towards her daughter. Danielle would always be safe with Xaden, Blair realized.

"Me and Aodham would never let anything happen to her. Uisge and Griahn are beyond those doors, they won't let anything happen to Danielle."

Xaden glanced back up at Blair, dark eyes filling with unshed tears. "You promise?"

Blair's heart fractured as she watched Xaden's eyes fill with tears. Nodding, she watched as the tears dissipated from his eyes and a smile replaced the previous frown. Blair led Xaden out the door, Xaden clutching Danielle closer to his chest as he took in the appearance of five dragons.

Uisge was the one he recognized immediately, the light blue daggertail standing beside her mate, Griahn. Her tail swayed from side to side, the end flicking with each pass. Xaden could tell she was annoyed. At who? He didn't know.

Griahn was poised to strike, like a panther waiting to pounce on its prey. His red scales glowed crimson under the sun's rays, his swordtail curled at his feet. Xaden was quick to realize he was showing off his tail, at how lethal it could be in the case the other three dragons decided to pounce.

Opposite them were the three dragons, three of the largest dragons he had ever seen. In front of Uisge was a beautiful silver dragon, a color he had never seen or heard of. The dragon's silver eyes darted from Uisge to Griahn, body poised in the same way Griahn's was, ready to defend itself if the need presented itself. The dragon towered over all of them by many meters, even taller than Griahn who was pretty large.

The dragon's tail flicked from side to side, the end of it sharp and curved, resembling a crescent moon. Xaden had never seen such a tail.

In front of Griahn was an equally beautiful dragon, smaller than the silver by just a little. The dragon seemed more relaxed than the silver, but it was still poised to strike. Its tail laid flat on the ground, but Xaden could still see the pointed tip, similar to a spear he had seen in his father's arsenal.

And stood between the two dragons, was the largest dragon Xaden had ever seen. Xaden was sure the dragon was possibly the largest in the continent. The dragon's black scales swallowed the sun's rays, its body stood tall and hardened. Large spikes protruded from its neck, down its back, and along its tail. Ruby red eyes zeroed in on Xaden as he stepped up to Blair and Aodham's side, between Uisge and Griahn.

The dragon let out a rumbling purr as he lowered his head, sniffing at the little babe in Xaden's arms. Xaden tensed, preparing himself for if the dragon's were to turn on them. The silver and the gold dragons also lowered their heads, purring as they gently nudged the little babe.

Danielle giggled, reaching a hand out towards the black dragon, placing her tiny hand between the dragon's colosal nostrils. Even Blair and Aodham, who were twice Xaden's size, only reached a quarter of the way up the black's claws.

The three dragons breathed in sync with the little babe in Xaden's arms. That was when Blair, Aodham, and Xaden realized something amazing.

Danielle Fyr was bonded to three dragons. Something that had never happened in all of the Fyr family history.
