Annabeth woke up to the loud noise of 'Ay ay ay I'm your little butterfly' coming from her alarm. She frantically woke up and switched it off, scared, and looked the sleeping figure next to her.
No one can wake Percy up unless he wants to.
Annabeth checked the time. 5:30 A.M. she smiled remembering what the day was and got up from the comfy, warm bed (and Percy) to take a shower.
She took a quick, warm shower, letting the water rinse off the dirt and the ache in her body. She remembered years ago, the day they defeated Kronos, the day plenty of their friends gave up their lives during the war, the faces of Silena, Beckendorf, Micheal,....Luke. She remembered the light fading from his eyes, the way his body went limp. Sheย remembered the gods offering them gifts, the day she became the official architect of Olympus, the day Percy gave up immortality for her.ย She remembered her and Tyson causing chaos in the process of making a cake for Percy. She remembered Percy trying to tell her he liked her, the happiness she felt in her chest after all that happened, the way they leaned forward at the same time. She remembered the feeling of his lips on hers, the salty taste of them, the getting caught by the whole camp, being thrown into the lake, sharing the best underwater kiss ever.
She kinda missed the old days.
She got dressed and came out of the shower to see Percy still sleeping peacefully. She laughed lightly and kissed his forehead.
"Wakey, Wakey." She said.
He shifted a little, mumbling something about horses eating his cookies.
She shook him lightly, "Get up, seaweed brain."
"Wh-umh. What."
"Happy birthday."
He smiled at her, with his eyes still closed and it made her heart melt. "Happy anniversary, Wise girl."
"Thanks, you too. Now get up and get dressed! We're heading out."
"But I wanna sleeep. Where are we going?" He sat up groggily.
She smiled, "Not until you get ready."
He pouted, "Fine. But don't I get a good morning kiss?"
She shook her head and pulled him towards her. The kiss lasted a few seconds before she pulled away. He pouted again.
She laughed and pushed him towards the bathroom. "Go, seaweed brain."
She went downstairs and saw all her friends sitting on the couch, some talking and some still sleeping.
"I get the top bed, sparky. The last time you slept there you nearly broke it." Leo shouted.
"That was ONE TIME. And the bed was rickety. Not my fault."
"Boys, stop fighting."
"Okay, Sally." They both said in unison.
They heard footsteps and turned to see Percy staring at them, his eyes wide. He was dressed in a blue v-neck and khaki shorts. His camp necklace hung on his neck, bearing 8 beads. He was still staring at them, so she decided to but in.
"Hey there."
"What are you guys doing here?" He slowly started smiling.
"BIRTHDAY BOY IN DA HOUSE! WE'RE GOINT TO M-"
"SHUT UP, LEO!" Everyone yelled.
Percy looked confused. She couldn't blame him. These people were crazy. But did she love them?
Yes.
"Right...um, so Beth. Where are we going?"
"Oh, Montauk." She blurted and mentally kicked herself. There goes one surprise. But it was worth it when she saw his expression. She tried to suppress her grin as she saw Percy's eyes widening and his mouth hanging open. It's been almost 3 years since he's been to one of his most favorite places in the world. And now with his friends and family? That boy is probably on cloud nine.
Sally laughed at his face, "Happy birthday, sweetie." She hugged him and turned to them. "Everyone packed?"
"Yes, Sally!"
"Everybody ready?"
"YES, SALLY!"
"ALRIGHT, KIDS. LET'S HIT THE ROAD."
All of them whooped and started hauling their luggages towards the van.
"Wait wait wait, what?" Percy said.
"Yeah, Perce?"
"I didn't pack! I hate packing." Then he gasped. "You're gonna leave me here for a whole day?"
Annabeth rolled her eyes, "Sally packed yours yesterday. And it's not gonna be a day, dude. We're literally carrying luggages here. "
He grinned and held out his arms. Annabeth happily obliged and they shared a sweet kiss. "Thank you." He whispered. "This is amazing. You're amazing."
She smirked, "I know, seaweed brain." He rolled his eyes and she chuckled. "You're welcome. I love you."
"Love you, too."
"Now let's get going!"
The drive to Montauk took nearly 4 hours and the whole ride was filled with the terrible voices of the teenagers trying to hit Mariah Carey's high notes. Since Sally, Paul and Estelle were driving in Paul's car, that left the rest of the people to use the mini van they had rented.
"You make me feel so," Leo took a deep breath, "HI HI HI HI HIIIIIIGH!"
"Oh gods. My eardrums."
"Leo, I beg you. Stop."
"Such a disgrace to her."
"I swear, Valdez. I'm gonna send you to my father's place-"
"Calm down, Neeks."
"Atleast try not to give me a headache on my birthday, repair boy."
"Alright, fine." Leo held up his hands. "Some people just can't accept the fact that I nailed that note." He mumbled.
"You actually didn't."
"Shut up, sunshine."
Annabeth sighed with relief when they finally arrived at the beach. The had rented three cabins for the week. The cabin itself was sandy and dark. Bunk beds lined the corner and along the left side of the wall, hung pictures of the ocean. Annabeth hoped there weren't any spiders, or else she was gonna riot.
When Percy and Annabeth saw the bunk beds, they took one look at each other and raced towards the one at the far end.
"I get the top one, Percy!"
"No, you don't."
"Yes, I do."
"Don't."
"Do."
"Don't."
"I DO!"
"Kids, why don't you just...sleep next to each other?" Sally told them.
"But he drools." Annabeth whined.
"She kicks." He argued.
"He talks in his sleep."
"SHE KICKS."
Sally sighed, "You better choose before the others do." She said and went away to check on Estelle, who was staring at the waves in amazement.
"What do you say? Sleep together?" She asked.
"As long as you don't kick."
She smirked, "I'll try."
After choosing the beds they were gonna take and arranging their belongings ,Rachel decided that they play volleyball for a while.
Percy groaned and Annabeth grinned at him. He wasn't necessarily good at volleyball and almost always managed to get hit in the face.
The 14 people divided into 2 groups.
Her, Percy, Piper, Jason, Frank, Hazel and Leo.
Reyna, Thalia, Nico, Will, Rachel, Calypso and Grover.
"Losers get the bottom bunk!" Leo yelled.
"But we already chose our places." Percy whined.
"Sorry, Aquaman."
Then the game began.
Annabeth scanned the opposite team, and decided to pass the ball to the ones who were bad at the game.
Reyna was really good at volleyball, so she was out of the option. Thalia could win if she tried her best and Rachel and Will were pretty okay at it. That left Calypso, Nico and Grover.
Nico was sulking and was busy looking at Will. Calypso wasn't good since she's new to this and all and Grover- he could surprisingly play well. The first time they had played with him, he just swatted the ball everytime it came near him and hit the ball high enough that it flew past them and even managed to win. They found out he could play.
Reyna got the serve first and hit the ball. It flew past Piper and came near Annabeth. She got ready and with perfect timing, hit the ball high over the net to Nico. He widened his eyes and quickly set the ball up to Rachel behind him and she served it to Hazel.
The game continued. When the score was 9 to 10, they decided to end the game as Sally called them for lunch.
Leo whooped and yelled "WE WON, LOSERS!" over and over again until Reyna shot him a glare. That quickly shut him up.
Sally and Paul dig into the big picnic basket and pulled out several packed chicken sandwiches, and plastic bags filled with blue chocolate chip cookies and a few cans of coke. The she took out some baby food and staryed feeding Estelle.
At sunset, after a long day of playing and eating delicious food, they opted to just sit and enjoy the peace. Annabeth felt relaxed, as she sat next to her boyfriend, with his arms around her shoulders.
When,
"OH MY GODS." Piper screamed.
"What's wrong?" Hazel panicked.
"We forgot the Percabeth tradition."
"Oh no, no thank you." Percy and Annabeth said at once.
Frank was already getting up, "Sorry, guys. I enjoy doing this." He smiled sheepishly. All of them lifted the two and threw them in the water. Before the fully submerged, the heard Leo yell, "Remember, peeps. There are innocent fish out there, so no doing the do!"
Percy immediately made an air bubble and dried Annabeth off.
They smiled at each other and she slowly leaned forward and kissed him. It wasn't rough or fast, but gentle and slow. They kissed as if they had all the time in the world, and for a moment, nothing else mattered. Just two people in the water, in love.
After a minute, they slowly pulled away with heavy breaths.
She smiled at him, "Happy birthday, Percy. Oh! I have a gift."
"You're a great enough gift for me, babe." He winked.
"Thanks, but I spent a lotmof time searching for this so you better take it." She took a deep breath and broke out of the bubble. She swam up to the shore and ran to the cabin.
"Woah, hey. Is kelp head talking to a seahorse again?" Thalia asked.
"Nah, I'm here to get the gift. He's waiting."
She quickly grabbed the neatly wrapped gift and prayed to all the gods he'd like it.
Percy, who was indeed talking with a seahorse, saw her and made another, much bigger bubble.
"Hey. Happy birthday, sweetie. Again." She shoved the gidt in his hands.
"Woah- this is big." He ripped it off and his eyes widened. "A JASPO DESTRUCTOR CAMOUFLAGE!" He yelled.
Annabeth watched, grinning, as he ran his fingers along the shiny skateboard, and looked up.
"You." He pointed at her. "You are the best girlfriend to ever walk on earth."
She laughed and nodded, "I know, ri-"
He kissed her. She smiled against his lips and kissed him back eagerly.
They were kissing a lot but they were in love! And it's their anniversary. So shut up.
They pulled away, and she rested her forehead against his and smiled.
He smiled back a little nervously and said, " I have something for you, too."
He pulled out a small box and Annabeth's eyes went wide.
"It's not what you think it is. That's for another time." He winked and she sighed in relief.
He opened the box and she gasped. Inside was a beautiful heart pendant with small diamonds around. Tiny writing were carved in the middle and Annabeth took a closer look. It said 'Forever'.
The whole thing was so cheesy and so Percy, she couldn't say anything. She stared at him and the necklace back and forth, her words dying in her mouth.
Percy looked worried, "Do you like it? I figured you would since you like hearts and all. It's okay if you don't, though. I totally get-"
Annabeth pressed her mouth to his, her eyes tearing up. She laughed, "It's beautiful, Percy. Thank you."
He exhaled and grinned at her, "Happy anniversary. I love you."
"Happy anniversary. Love you too, dork."
They sat in the bubble for hours, enjoying the warmth, and fell asleep to the rhythmic heartbeat of the other.
The next morning, they were found by a very flustered and nervous goldfish Frank, relieved Coach wasn't there at the time.
