prologue
The nurse laid the small baby into my arms. I inhaled shakily. I didn't think holding my son for the first time would hit me like this. It hit like a ton of bricks.
He squirmed in his loose hat and striped blanket.
"He looks like you," the nurse smiled. I looked back up at her with watery eyes and smiled back at her.
Lena looked back at me with a tired smile. You would think she was happy.
You would think she was happy enough to stay.
