[ the valley party ]
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤. You rolled your eyes in the car, sighing deeply as the couple in the front seat quarreled as usual. "Murray!" Dionne huffed in annoyance.
"Just look at the top of the map. Sun Valley is North."
"No. All I see is Bel Air."
"Then you're on the wrong map."
"I'm not!"
"Alright, look, look at the number on the top. What does the number of the top-."
"There are no numbers on the top. There's letters."
"UUUGGGHHH!"
"Murray, shut up."
"Do you think it's gonna frizz out?" Cher asked you, and you shook your head.
"No. You even added spray. Your hair will be fine," you reassured, and she took a breath to calm herself. "Now, how do I look?" You were wearing a blue set, a combining of a lacy dress and a suede coat with faux fur lining. You had light blue GoGo boots on, as well as some pearl and gold jewelry.
"Stunning. You're gonna blow Dean's mind!"
"Woah, woah, woah, hold up," you intervened, holding your hand up. "I am not trying to impress Dean."
Cher scoffed a laugh. "Yeah, okay. Understatement of the century!"
"It's so not! I hate your brother, Cher. How many times am I gonna have to say it?"
"However many times it takes you to correct that 'hate' and replace it with 'love'."
She smirked victoriously, and you sighed, dropping back into your seat. "It's like arguing with a brick wall."
"Hey! You know brick washes me out."
"Anyway. Listen, Tai, when we get there, make sure Elton sees you, but don't say 'Hi' first. Look like you're having fun and you're really popular." You opened the door, continuing to speak, "Talk to someone in his eyeline. Preferably a guy. Make him come to you. AND. Find an excuse to leave while he's still into the conversation. Always have him wanting more. You got it?"
"I got it."
"Heads up!" a guy yelled.
"Oh! Did you just see that?"
"God, skateboards. That is, like, so five years ago."
"Oh, you guys came. That's great." Travis appeared in front of you with a sweet smile. "You want a beer? I'll get you a beer."
"No," you scolded, as he dashed away, leaving Tai with a dazed smile.
Dionne and Murray entered first, swaying to the music as they walked. Cher followed behind them, greeting a few people whilst Tai stayed glued to your side. "Let's do a lap before we commit to a location," you advised, taking off your coat and placing it on the rack.
You ventured further into the house, and Tai piped up, "Y/N, ain't that the same dress that you were wearing yesterday?" You looked over, finding Amber dancing, wearing the same brown collared dress you had worn a few days beforehand.
"Say, Ambular," you called with a passive smile, and she turned, returning it with her own.
"Hi!"
"Was that you going through my laundry?"
"As if! Like I would really wear something from Judy's."
"Do you prefer fashion or ensembly challenged?" you questioned.
"Uh!"
"That clone," you sneered as she walked off.
"Y/N, you look much better in that dress then she did."
"I know- HUH!" You heaved a gasp when Travis ran over, spilling his cheap beer all over you. "Ruin my boots, why don't you?"
"I'm sorry," he apologized softly, but you were already storming away to the kitchen.
"Excuse me. Hello, my shoes!" You unzipped one of the boots, holding it up and dabbing it down with a tissue. "You're so lucky they have a shine finish."
"It's a small price to pay to the party Gods," he tried to ease, and you stared at him with squinted eyes. "Look, look, I'll make amends. How about some chronic shit?"
"Well, it's the least you can do," you sighed.
"Okay."
"Let's spark it," Tai smiled.
He grinned, placing the cigarette in his mouth and grabbing a lighter. You glanced around, eyes widened. "Hey, Elton's over there. Act like Travis is saying something funny."
She nodded but opened her mouth, so the smoke went in my face. You grimaced as she was quick to apologize, "Sorry."
She then began laughing hysterically, and it took some willpower not to snicker. You placed the cig in your mouth, breathing it in before blowing it back out. Travis smiled, nodding his head, but had a very confused look to his face. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing. Oh, Dean!"
Your head snapped up at the name, finding Dean. He had a roguish smile on his lips, wearing a long-sleeved loose shirt, and some jeans. He turned to you, and you found yourself clearing your throat as he smirked, "Y/N."
"Dean," you said after a moment.
Elton walked over and stopped behind you and Tai. He went to wrap an arm around your shoulder, but you ducked away, handing him the cigarette. "Oh, here."
"Hey, everyone. Let's play suck and blow," Summer offered, holding up a card.
You and the others nodded and howled with agreement, and she started the game, passing it to Travis as he moved to kiss Tai, who kissed it to Elton. He turned to you, and just as the card brushed your lips, he stopped inhaling and it fell in between you both. You instead met with Elton's mouth, sloppily kissing you. The group laughed and applauded, but you backed away quickly, groaning, "God, Elton! Can't you suck?"
You turned, and abruptly stopped, looking up at Dean, who was watching you with concerned eyes. "You okay?"
"I-."
"AAAH! NO!"
You looked up, eyes widening. "It's D! Come on!"
You grabbed Tai, and ran over to where her petrified screams were ringing out from. "What have you done?" she questioned with sadness. "Oh, my God!" Murray was sitting in the bathroom, with a bunch of shaving cream on his head. A guy behind him was scraping it all off, leaving him hairless. "Why did you do this to your head?"
"Cause I'm keepin' it real! Cause I'm keepin' it real!" Murray stated.
Dionne saw you and the girl and shoved a hand in her boyfriend's direction. "Look! Look what he's done to his head! Can you believe this?"
"Look at Lawrence's head, alright?"
"It's the bomb!"
"You know what I'm saying? You look good!"
"As will you!"
You and Tai giggled at their childish attitude, all the while Dionne was still screaming and fuming. "What do you care what he thinks, Murray? I'm the one that has to look at you. That was a big mistake." Now, he had a look of slight regret, seeing her so unhappy. "What am I gonna do with you now? And right before the yearbook pictures? What am I gonna tell my grandchildren?" Seeing as he wasn't really reacting, she moved to her next plan. "You know what? That's it. You wanna play games?
"You wanna play games?" Murray mimicked in a squeaky voice.
"I'm calling your mother."
"I'm calling- Wait, wait. Hold up! No, no, no! Wait, don't call my mum!"
"Yo, man, chill!" Lawrence soothed.
"Don't call my mum!"
"The same thing happened at the Spring Dance. She spent the entire afterparty in the bathroom," you informed as we left the situation.
"See that, almost destroyed my buzz," Tai grinned, and you couldn't help but smile and laugh.
"I'm still baked." You both then walked into the main living room, where everyone was dancing. "How about we go bump into people?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm cool with that," she agreed with a smirk.
You sauntered into the middle, when all of a sudden, Travis shouted, "Hey, Tai! Wait up!"
She spun around, finding him mid-leap off the shelfing unit by the wall. He crashed to the floor and Tai leant down to help him. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"Yeah. Where's your sense of good hospitality?"
As he streaked his hair back, she was in complete awe. "That was so cool the way you did that. I wish I could do it."
"Oh, no, don't."
"Why not?"
"Well, cause if girls did it, what would guys do to impress 'em?"
"I don't know, like...stuff."
"What kind of stuff?"
You twirled around, moving your shoulders to the beat before your face dropped, seeing the two exchanging very lustrous looks. You sighed, walking over, and grabbing her hand. "Tai, I need you." After taking her away, you gestured with your head to the couch. "Elton's over there."
You linked arms, swaying them away from each other, before you went down on your knee, the girl strolling around you. You smirked, glancing over at Elton, excited for Tai to find him watching. "Is he looking?"
You nodded vigorously, and she then began to move and click her fingers, when suddenly, a shoe collided with her head. "Tai! Elton, help me!" You then leant closer to her. "Nice move, Tai."
"It wasn't a move," she groaned.
Elton lifted her up, and you ran back into the kitchen, sweeping away all the empty cups and cans on one of the island benches. You then reached into the bowl of ice, grabbing some and placing them into a towel. "Use this," you instructed him, handing him the wrapped-up ice.
Travis came over, leaning in and getting some ice. "You guys should use ice."
"No, Travis, we've got it under control!" You grabbed his shoulders, moving him backwards.
"Tai, are you okay?" he weakly asked as you moved him away.
"Travis, Tai would have wanted you to enjoy the party," you reasoned, continuing to push him back out into the hallway before rushing back to her. "If it's a concussion, you have to keep her conscious, okay? Ask her questions."
"What's 7 times 7?" he asked.
"Stuff she knows!"
Tai looked around, then sat up, but ended up hitting her head on one of the hanging orb lights. Elton went around, stopping the light from swinging, and he cupped her cheek, looking at her head. "That's some bump you got there."
"Yeah," she smiled dreamily.
"You ready to go back out there?"
"Yeah, I am."
"Alright, you sure? Can you do this? Rollin' with the homies."
He did a wave movement with his hands, and she recreated it with a grin. "Rollin' with the homies."
"Yeah, let's do it! You're ready." He guided her back to the living room, the two dancing together as you bit your lip with a smile.
I had to give myself snaps for all the good deeds I was doing. It was so great. Love was everywhere, and even though I was alone, I was really happy for Tai-
"Darling." You rolled your eyes with a groan, spinning around.
So, I wasn't alone.
"What do you want Dean? Isn't there another poor, unfortunate soul you can torture?"
"I decided to grant you with my presence."
"Please, don't."
"I see Tai and Elton are hitting it off," he observed, coming to stand beside you, watching the pair as they danced.
"Yes, and it's all thanks to me." Dean shook his head, before he began chuckling. You tilted your head to the side, staring up at him. "What's so funny?"
"Just the fact that you're so completely blind."
Your eyes widened in confusion as you questioned the blonde boy, "What are you talking about, coocoo brains?"
"Elton likes you, Y/N."
"What? No, he does not."
"Oh, my God," he sighed, rubbing his hands down his face. "Every single time he was so 'dotingly in love' with Tai, did you ever take the time to notice that you were right there with her?"
You glanced away, lips pursing as you contemplated what he said. "No," you shook your head. "You're just trying to ruin this for me, and for Tai, and for Elton! Well, I will not let you do that. Goodbye, douchebag." You traipsed away, as he watched you go with his jaw hanging. You walked outside, by the pool, when your phone started to ring. You picked it up, pressing it to your ear. "Hello?"
"Do you know what time it is?" your father questioned loudly through the line.
"A watch doesn't really go with this outfit, daddy."
"Where are you?"
"Um, just having a snack with my girlfriends."
"Where, in Kuwait?"
"Is that in the Valley?"
"Y/N, I expect you to walk through this door in 20 minutes."
"Well, um, it might take longer than that, dad."
"Everywhere in L.A. takes 20 minutes."
A couple minutes later, Elton was escorting you and Tai away, as he was going to give you both a ride. "Sorry to make you leave. Dionne's bucking for best dramatic actress at a Val party." Tai cackled, looking up at Elton. "Hey, Summer!"
"Hi. Pretty random fiesta. Do you need a ride home?"
"That'd be great," you grinned as you ran down the steps to her.
"No, I got her," Elton intervened.
"Well, I'm right below Wilshire and Linden."
"Oh, that's right near me. I'm above Olympic," Tai said, and Summer nodded with a smile at her.
"Great. So, Tai will go with Summer. And Y/N, you'll come with me."
You wheeled out of his grip, grabbing Tai and pulling her over to him. "Actually, if you take Wilshire to Canon, then that turns into Benedict."
"Well, then she'd have to go back South, and I'm already going North." He pulled her back, taking you in her place.
"But you could take Tai on your way up to Sunset."
"That doesn't make any sense. I'd have to get off the freeway. I hate that. Tai, go with Summer. Y/N, you'll come with me." You sighed, knowing that he was making valid points, so you slunk into the passenger seat of his car. Tai waved at you with a smile, and you lazily waved back.
