five: the 'situation'
2nd JULY, 2017
[Beomgyu? Choi Beomgyu can you hear me?!]
That wasn't the first time I had been through those same old roads all alone, and yet the starlit sky somehow managed to make the forest look all the more enigmatic, all the more ethereal.
[For fuck's sake, Gyu! Answer me!]
I almost forgot to breathe, my hands shaking wildly over the steering wheel.
The day had been oddly peaceful, no wonder.
[I am calling the police if you don't say anything under five seconds! One-]
"Can you shut the fuck up, hyung? I am in a situation here..." I didn't know how I found my voice. I was too scared to even realise I was sweating like a pig even with the aircon.
But then again, not everyone finds a body in the middle of an empty road, and one out of three times it's a serial killer trap. Yeonjun had narrated enough true crime to me for a lifetime, part of why I have severe trust issues with everyone.
The 'situation' wasn't of any help either.
"Choose, one or two."
Yeonjun tsked loudly in my earpiece. [Are you serious ri-]
"Just choose."
There was a small pause. [...Two?]
'Fuck it,' I decided at last, and with all the courage I could sum up, I pushed open the car's door. There was no turning back anyway.
The breeze was pleasantly cool against the moistened skin, the silence of the night no longer muffled to my ears. The hushed whispers of the leaves, the distant howls of the wild dogs-- everything made this real. It wasn't a nightmare. I wished it was.
[What... are you seeing right now?] Yeonjun finally managed to ask.
I took slow steps, my voice low. "There's a person a little away from my car. T-they seem unconscious but..."
[Is there blood around them?]
"Everywhere."
I noticed the bloody footsteps that had been right beneath me, leading up to wear the person still laid in a supposed deep slumber, only visible underneath the headlights of my car. Their grey hoodie had dark and wet patches everywhere, their dark hair appearing matted and greasy.
[Can you see the face?]
"I- no."
At that moment, I prayed to all the stars for it to not be some evil entity, not like I believe any of that stuff, but one can never be so sure.
I took a sharp breath and just went with the flow, which had me sitting at my haunches in front of the person.
Okay, he was handsome.
"I am here. I can see their wounds. There are m-many."
[Good. Check for their pulse.]
I went for his wrist which was under his body weight in an uncomfortable position. Their shoulder seemed broken. My breath hitched as I pressed my middle and forefinger to that rough skin.
"There's none." I wanted to cry.
[On the wrist?]
"Y-yes."
[Try their neck. Faint pulses usually aren't distinguishable on the wrist.]
And I did, almost sighing in relief. "Oh god it's there! Faint, but there."
[Fantastic! Now, listen to me carefully. Check their skin over their heart. If it's uneven and has unusual bumps, we can't administer a CPR. Their ribs might be broken.]
I lifted their hood up by the hem. It was sticking over with dried up blood and seemed very painful. "I can see the bumps. There are also many bruises."
[Okay then. Provide them oxygen.]
"And how the fuck do I do that?!"
[Mouth-to-mouth of course!]
Obviously I knew that, I wasn't that dumb, but my brain was in a state of complete lockdown and I had lost all my senses. And when Yeonjun reiterated it, I knew I had no other choice.
At least my first kiss was gonna go into saving someone's life.
My eyes fell to that face again, my hands forcing his mouth open. I did a small countdown to five, held my breath and leant down.
I felt him steer beneath me, still unconscious.
I was a panting mess as I pulled back. "Done!"
[I checked your location and you are closest to Mujigae Hospital which is ten minutes away in the outskirts itself. Bring them there and dad will come over to see what he can do.]
"Mujigae Hospital."
[I know it's a stupid name.]
And I was a stupid person-- a match made in heaven.

Fun Fact: Beomgyu almost wanted to be a lawyer, but then realized it wasn't a thing for him.
