Okay so like don't mind the double update today but like—hear me out

I just had like some sort of epiphany in the shower (of course it was in the shower) but

👏 SMART 👏 IS 👏 A 👏 SUBJECTIVE 👏 TERM 👏

What qualifies something or someone to be labeled or viewed as smart? Hmm? Is it the same reason each time? Are you quick-witted? Are you a phenomenal strategist? Are you academically gifted? Are you good at memorizing trivia? Do you have an assortment of knowledge on a variety of topics? Are you eloquently spoken? How large is your vocabulary? Do you think out of the box? Can you easily grasp onto a concept relatively well? Do you make "good" decisions? Are you agreeing with someone's opinion and they want to make their argument, opinion, or whatever more valid by claiming smartness? Did you come up with a good idea? Is it your grades? Does someone simply view themselves as dumb and have low self-esteem, causing them to call you smart?

Like, I get it, you're just tryna compliment someone or whatever. But I'm also saying to this girl in my class who is kinda always bragging about how fUCKING SMART she is like we GET it, okay? But ngl saying someone is smart has a multitude of meanings and therefore can be seen as a half-assed compliment because you didn't expand on why you categorized this person or thing or whatever noun as "smart" but I mean a compliment is a compliment, so as long as it's genuine it's perfectly fine. I'm just writing this to people who refuse to see that there are a lot of ways "smart" can be taken and that it has a lot of meanings.
