1x10 ▬ "Forgiveness and Stuff"

In which, Lorelai gets a worried call in Luke's diner and Luke rushes her to the hospital after shutting his diner down for the night. Emily points something out to Luke.

[ lorelai on the right ; luke on the left & emily/rory will be in the middle ]

▬▬▬ [ In Lorelai's POV ] ▬▬▬

"oh, my god!"

"shut up, taylor. what's going on?"

"my father's in the hospital."

"what?"

"he collapsed or something. i don't know."

*struggling to say words*

"i need a cab. i need to call a cab."

"where's the phone? i need a — can anybody give me — i'm holding a phone."

"whoa, calm down"

"i can't calm down, i need a cab. what's the number? it's something "cabs" or "cabs" something something. 1-800-cabs? can someone tell me the damn number of the cab guy?!"

"i'll drive you," (Luke says quite hot tbh.)

"there's food and people and there's a burger with a face."

"okay everybody. we're closed. let's go! food's on me. — put your coat and get your stuff. — taylor, have your hot chocolate, then lock up."

"come on. my truck's out back."

* lorelai's putting on her jacket *

[ Lorelai's voice breaking ]
"Luke, i'm — "

"i know. let's go."

[ they walk out of the diner to his truck ]

*in luke's truck*

"you'll make a great dad"

"you make a great mom"

"yeah. it's just the, uh, daughter part i don't have down yet."

"okay, hold on"
*puts the pedal to the metal*
"that camaro is dust."

[ emily is talking to jane lynch ; almost said sue sylvester 🤣🤧]

* emily calls lorelai at home *

* more back talk from boss woman emily *

- luke and lorelai enter -

"okay, we're supposed to follow the blue line around the corner, and then we should be... — okay, we have to ask someone."

"no! no! we just have to pick one!"

"we can't just wander around here aimlessly."

"look listen to me somewhere in this hospital are my mother and my father. now i know i don't get along with them but there has to be some sort of intuition, some sort of blood bond that will lead me to them!"

"that's crazy."

emily: "my great-uncle founded this hospital, you insensitive paper peddler!"

"and that's emily"

- more emily talk -

"mom!"

"lorelai."

"what's going on? how is he?"

"you came."

"well, of course i came. how's dad?"

"that's what i've been trying to find out..."

"you got rid of her."

"yes, so tell me what happened."

"that was amazing."

"mom, please."

"i don't know what happened. he was hot, and he went to turn down the thermostat and then — were you on a date?"

"what?"

"you have an escort."

"no, it's luke, mom."

"which is her way of saying we weren't on a date." (i loved the way he said this)

"i'm sorry i didn't mean it that way."

"well how am i supposed to know you weren't on a date it's friday night, and you show up here with a man."

"it's luke, mom"

"it's not insane to assume a date was involved."

"you're right, okay, it's entirely possible that i was out on a date."

"just not with me." (poor baby, not yet anyway)

"i was eating at luke's when i got the message, he gave me a ride. end of story. is dr. reynolds's here?"

"yes, joshua got here a while ago. he was supposed to come back the minute he knew something but he hasn't been back yet."

"well let's go find him."

*lorelai and emily talk a bit more*

"i'll wait here."

« a bit of a time skip »

"oh man"

"you were very brave for her."

"yeah, well, it's my turn. god this sucks."

"hey, come on, you gotta think positive here — bright side, good thoughts — rainbows, unicorns, clowns, little, cute... furry — okay i'm out." ( LMAO 😂 )

"thank god." (🤣)

« luke talking about his hatred of hospitals »

"okay, listen why don't you go home?"

"you want me to go?"

"you don't look so good."

"thanks."

"that's not what i meant. you always look good."

"yeah?"

"i meant you always look healthy, —

"okay"

"but you don't look so healthy now. now you look ... yes"

"unhealthy, okay."

"oh what?
so i said you look good. we're not in fifth grade. 'you look good' big deal. —
stop staring at me"

"ah, jeez"

"see? that's what you get for being cocky."

rory: "where's mom?"

"looking for coffee"

"what are you doing?"

"staring at my shoes"

"okay, carry on"

(lorelai talking with rory;
then turns to emily talking to luke)

"oh, hello."

"hi."

"if you don't mind, i think i need to just—"

"oh, sure. sit, please."

*they talk about richard,, blah blah*

"so what exactly is going on between the two of you?"

"nothing. really. we're friends, that's it."

"you're idiots, the both of you."

* lorelai & rory come in the scene *

E: "well, there you are. where have you been?"

"coffee hunt. so what's going on?"

"your mother called me an idiot"

"wow, you must have sucked up good."

E:  "well, i'm gonna go wash my face"
*stands up + takes rory with her*

"so what you gunna do?

[sighs]
"okay, well, i'm just gonna..."

▬▬▬ ¡ one-shot starts here ! ▬▬▬
— luke's pov ! —

once lorelai goes in the room to see her father, i start to think about what emily gilmore told me about her and i.

i also think about her facial expressions when she was telling me those things.

saying that we're both idiots. are we?

i'm just to afraid to mess this up. i don't want to lose our friendship, at least. i do really like her. i'm happy with what we have going on.

i do eventually want to tell lorelai how i feel about her, but i think today is probably not the best day to tell her since her dad is in the hospital.

i settle those thoughts on the back burner for now and go get her some coffee.

i find the nurses station and find that the door is a bit open so o go in and make lorelai a cup of coffee before anyone else comes in and finds me.

i head back to richards room and find lorelai coming out of his room.

"i heard, everything's okay."

"yeah, yeah. they're going to keep him overnight, but uh, he's gonna be fine."
*starts crying*

she suddenly leans into me still crying so i try my best to comfort her and offer her my nonexistent handkerchief and i get a little laugh out of her. she says she's fine but i can tell that she really isn't fine. (oof same 🥲)

i ask if she's okay and she says she is.

"alright, oh hey. i got this for ya."

"where did you get that?"

"nurses' lounge. what? you're not the only one who can flirt."

she chuckles and it makes my heart flutter.

"the door was open."

"thank you."

"anything else i can do?"

"could you take rory home?"

"yeah, sure. what about you?"

"i'm gonna stick around here a while and make sure everything's settled. you take her, and i'll drive the jeep back."

"okay."

* rory comes out of richard's room & lorelai tells her that luke is taking her home & blah blah ... *

— back to lorelai's pov —

mom and i talk and then head to the cafeteria to eat a bit and then i decide to leave and head to the store to get something for luke.

i get to the hat section of the store and then see the perfect hat for luke and purchase it. 🧢

i head back to his diner and see that's he's cleaning the tables.

i open the door and greet him.

"hello."

"hey, how's your dad?"

"better, though he says life is not life unless it includes a steak. how come your not out with everybody?"

"i have some things to do."

"right, anyway. this is for you."
*takes out his hat from the bag*

"what's it for?"

"just a thank you, christmas, whatever."

"christmas isn't for two weeks."

"do we really have to do this again?"

luke opens that bag and pulls out the hat that i got him.

"i just thought, you know, god forbid, something happens to that one, you might need a spare."

he looks like he's struggling so i decide to help him out it on. i put it on the right way but then it looks weird so i put it on backwards and then everything is right in the world again.

gosh, he looks so handsome in the new hat i got him.

we stare into each other's eyes and get lost in them for a bit.
