the death of abigail winston
April 1st, 1713
Abigail Winston stood in her chambers, smiling at a piece of paper she held in her hands. It was a quoted poem addressed to her by her true-love, sending butterflies in her stomach as she kept re-reading it over and over again.
It was one of her off days of practicing her spells and magic. She usually didn't get to lounge around much with being the main guardian of her coven, as well as being the strongest in her family. They were all proud of her for her talents in the art of witchcraft—except for one.
Raul Winston was Abigails older brother who hated his family. He blamed them for the fact that he was weak and unskilled unlike his sister, going on and on about how he never got any attention from his mother and father. In many ways, his hatred was mainly directed to his younger sister. But he hid his feelings very well and constantly made his family look like fools whilst playing innocent.
Her family consisted of her parents, Lilith and Evan, and her younger siblings. There were the triplets; William, George, and Gerald, being the most mischievous bunch. Then there was her baby sister of just a few months, Evangeline.
It was late evening on the first of April, and her parents were currently tending to Evangeline. Raul had taken the triplets to the woods for what he called family bonding, claiming they never spent any time together like they did. Abigail was very weary of his request, a gut feeling she had that something was bound to happen.
She hid her poem under her bed where lots more letters were hidden. Her relationship was a secret to her whole family, including her other family and friends. For certain reasons which she didn't care for, they would surely make a riot of and Abigail didn't like confrontation much.
Abigail flattened out her white dress as she walked out of her room and down the stairs to the house. It was very quiet which was quite unusual for a house of eight, but it was very pleasing seeing they didn't have many quiet nights like these. Though, quiet wasn't necessarily calming either.
As soon as she reached the end of the steps, she heard plentiful of very distant screams. Her head snapped the way they were coming from and ran out the front porch, checking her surroundings. Coming from the right field from the woods were her three little brothers running away from something, absolutely terrified.
She picked up her dress and ran towards them, meeting them half-way. She noticed that Raul wasn't following behind them. "What happened, are you guys okay? Where's Raul?"
"Sister, they've got him!" William shouted out while taking deep breaths, holding a hand to his chest.
They?
"Who's they, Will?" She asked calmly and bent down to his level, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. She didn't want him to be upset further on nor did she want to worry mother and father.
"Vampires, Abigail! Vampires took Aully!" Gerald answered for his brother, pointing back to the direction where they came from.
Abigail snapped up and took a breath before looking back her beloved siblings. The thought of any of her family members getting hurt caused her much pain, especially her oldest brother who she loved dearly. The girl wasn't very familiar with vampires face-to-face and didn't even what they were fully capable of.
Looks like she was about to find out.
"Boys, lock yourselves inside. If you see the same vampires, don't invite them in and stay clear of doorways and windows. Alert Mama and Papa at once," Abigail instructed the boys before watching them run to the house, making sure they got in safely. As she watched them enter, she turned back around and made her way into the forest.
It was very silent again, much to her dismay. From what her lover and father has said about vampires is that they're very fast, having the strength to just flick their fingers and snap your neck. She prayed to the heavens that her brother was safe, at the very least not dead.
It didn't take Abigail very long before she found six vampires surrounding Raul, demanding where the rest of his coven was. She came in perfect timing as they were getting tired of him and was close to ripping out his heart.
"Stay away from him, you monsters!" Abigail screamed out and stepped in front of Raul protectively, eyeing all of them down with a glare that could kill the simplest of men.
"There are too many of them, sister," Raul whispered in her eye, just as terrified as his little brothers. "What do we do?"
"Run," Abigail commanded him, not taking her eye off the bloodsuckers who demanded a next meal.
"Awe, look at that boys. She thinks she can take us all by herself," One of the girls along the group taunted her, making the others to laugh with lack of empathy.
She didn't have to tell Raul twice to leave as he was already sprinting back to the house.
Abigail swallowed before taking a defensive stance, "Leave me and my family alone. There's no need for bloodshed."
"There's always need for bloodshed," One of the men gritted his teeth, dark veins popping under his eyes which were now red and black like. It spooked Abigail a bit, but she stood her ground.
She suddenly raised a hand at the guy, muttering motus before he went flying into a tree coincidentally having a branch pierce into him. The others certainly weren't happy with that and all turned to look at her, angry that she killed one of their people.
"You're going to pay for that, witch," One of them threatened before they all tried to vamp speed to her, thinking they caught her by surprise.
Abigail only calmly closed her eyes and put her hand in their direction, making them all halt to a stop frozen. She opened them again and cracked her head to the side, snapping the necks of two of them. Three remained and hissed at her, while that one girl was surprisingly impressed.
"At least you could say you died a warrior," She smirked at Abigail and looked behind her before her smirk rose into a grin.
Abigail furrowed her eyebrows in confusion before she heard someone chant behind her. She gasped loudly as she felt a hand suddenly on her heart, gripping at it like it was some ball. In her ear, she heard a whisper.
"See you around, little sister."
Her heart was then pulled out of her chest, causing for her to fall at the ground and slowly die in the dirt. The last thing she saw was Raul standing over her with a wicked smile before her bison was clouded with blackness.
