𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈, 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 that it was the end of last period on Friday. Lizzie jumped up from her seat in math and gathered her stuff together. She couldn't wait to get home. She'd made it through the first week back at school and she decided she deserved a treat. By treat she meant rot her insides with junk from the nearby grocery store and stare at her laptop until the early hours of the morning.
Once everything was safely packed away in her backpack, the small brunette rushed out the door. She flew down the corridor, earning strange looks from the students that were milling around and chatting to their friends. She skidded to a halt right in front of her locker. As she moved the variety of textbooks from her locker to her bag, she found herself deep in thought over what movie she would be watching tonight. During math she'd narrowed it down to two: The Notebook and Iron Man. Completely different yet both insanely good. On the one hand The Notebook was-
She slammed the brakes on her train of thought and turned to the tall figure that had appeared next to her.
"Hey." She greeted Isaac and packed the rest of her stuff into her bag.
"Hi." Isaac replied. In the short time Lizzie had known Isaac, she'd learnt he was not a talker. Most wouldn't believe Lizzie was either but that was because they didn't know her. Once she was truly comfortable with someone she never shut up. Something about Isaac led her to believe he was the same. There had been a couple times when his eyes had lit up when Lizzie had mentioned something that interested him, but his words didn't follow along with his facial expressions.
"Can I ask you a question?" Lizzie turned to face him as she slung the arm of her bag over her shoulders.
Isaac unlocked his locker and nodded. "Shoot."
"Should I watch The Notebook or Iron Man tonight?"
The boy creased his forehead in confusion. Why was she asking him this? "What do you mean?"
Lizzie grinned. Isaac noticed that when she smiled, she smiled with all her features not just her mouth. He found it endearing almost, like there was something very real and honest about her that he couldn't help but like.
"It's a Friday night. I'm locking myself up in my room and watching a movie with my cat and probably my little brother who will join me in the middle too, but I'm stuck between two. The Notebook or Iron Man."
She looked up expectantly.
"Iron Man is better." He said affirmatively. Lizzie nodded her head at his answer. Iron Man it was going to be then. She was about to bid Isaac goodbye, but he spoke again.
"You're not going to the party?" He questioned. He'd assumed every Sophomore and Junior were going.
"If it's Lydia's then no. My brother already tried to get me to go but I declined. I am still traumatised from my last party. Very traumatised. Are you?" She expected Isaac to shake his head, he didn't really strike her as the party animal type.
"I'm not sure yet. The whole lacrosse teams meant to be going tonight after the scrimmage."
Lizzie could see in his eyes that he wanted to go. She guessed the reason he was hesitant on going was he didn't know anyone. When she'd watched the Lacrosse practices and try-outs, she'd noticed he didn't talk to anyone. Nor did he during the rest of school.
But neither did she.
She could sort of understand how he felt as Lizzie herself had refused many the social gathering because the only person she'd know there was probably her brother and Kayla. She sighed. She couldn't believe she was about to say this.
"I'll go if you go."
Isaac tilted his head to one side. "What about your movie night?"
"I can postpone it to Saturday, it's no biggie. Besides, my brother will be thrilled that I'm doing something that actually involves talking to people."
The curly haired looked doubtful "I-I don't know I- mean, I barely made the team. I don't think they'll even want me there."
Lizzie scoffed at Issacs's self-doubt. "You're going You're just as much a part of that team as the rest of them fuckers. We can stick together and if anyone gives you any shit, I'll beat em off with my super strength."
The girl smiled when she noticed that she'd made Isaac laugh.
"Okay, I'll go, but I'm counting on that super strength."
Lizzie placed her hands on her hips and pulled a sarcastic face. "Relax, I'm like Captain America. I'm that strong."
The two burst into a short fit of laughter. Isaac found it extremely the amusing that the girl about a foot smaller was him had offered to protect him at a high-school party. When the laughter and giggles died down, Isaac shut his locker. "I'll see you tonight then."
"Yeah, I'll bring my lightsabre. Good luck at the scrimmage." She said through a grin. The two teens turned on their heels and went their separate ways. Both still slightly chuckling and both excited to see the other again that evening.

Lizzie and Bobby clambered into the back of one of Bobby's lacrosse mates' car. The party had started at 8 however the Brown siblings were running late. Bobby, because he had an unfortunate incident with his hair gel, and he had to take a good few extra showers because of it. Lizzie was late because she had a wardrobe catastrophe.
She'd spent twenty minutes staring at the same items of clothing in her closet mindlessly. She had to get Kayla on a Skype call and she managed to piece together the perfect outfit in seconds. It consisted of a thin black turtleneck shirt and a pastel green and white checked pinafore dress over the top of it, along with a pair of fishnet tights.
Kayla had also insisted she wore a little eyeliner to add to her usual dose of mascara. When Bobby had called her downstairs, she'd lazily thrown on her pearl necklace and doc martins in a rush.
Bobby and his friend Greenburg were singing along to the AC/DC track that was playing on the radio whilst Lizzie gazed out the window. It was already dark and in Lizzie's opinion, the night only made Beacon Hills more beautiful. It made her feel a sense of tranquillity whenever she looked up at the night sky. The stars especially. They were another thing that reminded her of her mother.
She reached down into her tote bag that hung down from her left shoulder and pulled out her phone. She had 3 messages from Kayla.
Kay Kay
three new messages
Kay Kay
Meet at the front of Lydias xx
Where are you? x
Girl, I look stupid just stood here
Lizzie bit her bottom lip as she typed out a reply.
Bethz
omw we got a little held up
look 4 greenburg's car xx
She replaced her phone back in her tote bag which contained the current book she was reading, her iPod and headphones and some lip gloss. The essentials. Greenburg slammed his palm on the button activating the beep. The car was old so the beep that came out was more of a squeal, but it did the job of clearing away a few partygoers for the vehicle to be parked.
No sooner than she'd stepped out the car, Kayla came running over with two glasses full of God knows what in her hand.
"Lizzie! You're actually here." Her slurred words could only just be heard over the thumping music that came from inside Lydia's huge house. The taller brunette held her arm out to her friend to offer her one of the drinks.
"I'm gonna guess this isn't water." Lizzie looked down at the clear substance in her cup and Kayla shook her head.
"No, silly, it's vodka." She shouted down Lizzie's earhole. "Try it."
"How about no? You have it." Lizzie tried to hand the cup back, but Kayla just hit it out of her hand. Lizzie giggled. "Wow, you are well drunk, Kay."
Kayla started shouting again. "I know and I'm gonna get you drunk too. Let's go inside."
Lizzie's hand was grabbed by a larger sweaty one and was pulled into the Martin Residence. The party was in full swing and there were people everywhere. On the sofa, on the table, in the fridge, in the pool. They were grinding, making out, chatting, dancing. Lizzie kept her eyes peeled for the certain curly haired boy she'd made a deal with tonight as she was pulled through the sea of people.
They stopped at a mini bar that had been set up by the pool in the yard. Kayla reached over the bar and pulled a small bottle from the ice cooler. She waved it in Lizzie's face.
"I th..think you should this have." Kayla looked confused at her own words. "I meant have this."
Lizzie took the small bottle before Kayla dropped it and stared at it. Should she? No, look what happened last time. That didn't mean to say she didn't want to. No, she couldn't, Isaac was coming. Imagine how embarrassing that would be if he showed up and she was off her face. But then again... one small bottle of beer couldn't do much even for a lightweight. Right?
WRONG!
About an hour passed and even though Lizzie had only had two bottles, she was hurrying back from her toilet break to continue dancing with Kayla. She wasn't deliriously drunk or anything, she was just slightly on the tipsy side.
"I just peed in a fake plant!" She yelled over the music excitedly. Kayla clapped her hands happily and started cackling like some weird demon. Lizzie smiled around with glee, and she spotted a flash of curly hair hovering over the tops of most the people there.
"I'll be right back." She told her friend who couldn't hear anyway and carried on dancing. Pushing her way through the dancers, Lizzie frantically panned the room for any signs of Isaac.
When she was away from all the dancers, she finally noticed the tall brunette sat on one of the expensive looking armchairs in the living room with a beer in his hand. When he caught sight of Lizzie approaching him, he grinned politely.
"Well, hello there." Lizzie greeted.
"I saw you dancing, you looked like you were having fun." He swilled the liquid round in his bottle.
"Yeah, well I needed to fulfil those protection duties I promised you." The girl retorted. She lifted her thumb over her shoulder and gestured outside. "You wanna walk around a bit?"
Isaac nodded a little too eagerly, he was desperate to get away from all the people and if Lizzie was sober, she would be too. The pair managed to drive past the whole party population to get outside. They'd gone no further than the pool when a hand reached out to stop the smaller girl. Lizzie and Isaac turned back to see a couple pulling away from their dancing although still resting very close to each other.
"Hey Lizzie, uh this is Scott." Allison yelled over the music. Scott gave a half wave in Lizzie's direction.
"Oh....oh. You actually plucked up the courage to speak to him? Aw, Allison I'm so proud of you." Lizzie giggled causing Allison to blush and fall slightly stiff in Scott's arms. "This is Isaac."
Isaac nodded his head as a greeting in hopes it would help wrap up the conversation. Sooner or later, each pairing gravitated away from each other and Isaac and Lizzie could continue their walk. Lydia's family owned a huge field which you could get from her yard and when the two found themselves walking through it, Lizzie couldn't help but stare around her. Something felt a little off.
"So, you have two brothers then?" Isaac questioned which Lizzie thought was unusual. He was never normally the one to break the silence.
"Uh yeah. You know Bobby, he's in junior year and my little brother Davis. He just started Middle School on Monday." Lizzie replied as she gazed in awe at the nature around her shimmering in the moonlight despite the odd feeling. She sensed another silence coming. "Do you have any siblings?"
"No... well I had a brother." He stuttered and Lizzie slapped her hand over her mouth.
"I'm so sorry. I have total foot-in-my-mouth disease."
"S' fine." Was all Isaac replied with and her stomach immediately dropped, they must've been close. Lizzie adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder and coughed awkwardly. They continued walking down the field in silence for a while before, to Lizzie's surprise, Isaac broke it again.
"Any news from soccer?" He practically whispered.
"Nah, they say Monday. Not too hopeful though." She sighed and glanced up at Isaac next to her.
"Are you kidding me? You were great!" He stopped walking causing Lizzie to come to a halt as well.
Lizzie laughed; her cheeks tinted slightly pink as they did when she was given any compliment.
"I'm serious, Lizzie. Didn't you like whack it super hard?" Isaac asked. He waved his arms round, emphasising each word.
"I'm not even sure how I did that."
"Maybe it was with your super strength." Isaac jokingly guessed.
"Of course it was. I'm hella strong. I actually used to take karate when I was a kid so I could probably kick your ass." Lizzie boasted. She flipped her hair over her shoulder cockily.
"You wanna try?"
Lizzie looked confused.
"What? Kicking your ass?"
"I mean...unless you're scared." Pulling his lips into a line, Isaac smirked. Lizzie's stomach fluttered for a few seconds before she unwillingly told herself to calm down. She dropped her bag from her shoulder and narrowed her eyes up at the curly haired boy.
"You're on, Lahey."
The two stood a few feet apart. Lizzie spread her feet out and moved her arms into one of the karate positions she vaguely remembered. But, she eventually realized the starting position was the only thing she remembered from her martial arts days. So then, she dropped them again and in that random moment, she decided to charge at him. Isaac grunted as he was forcibly rugby tackled to the ground by the tiny girl.
"That was not karate." He groaned. Lizzie rolled off him, onto her back and stared up at the night sky. Stars dotted around, they softly illuminated little patches of the dark around them. Nights like these Lizzie and her mother used to go out stargazing on top of the cliff in Beacon Hill's Preserve.
"Shit." Isaac suddenly gasped and sat up in the field. "W-what time is it?" He frantically searched through his pockets for his phone. Lizzie sat up too and leaned over to grab her own phone out of her bag. She flipped it open.
"Isaac, it's eleven thirty." The light from her phone illuminated her face.
"Shit!" Isaac yelled as he stood up. "I have to go- I- I'm sorry. I- I'll make it up-"
"Don't worry, I understand." She jerked her head in the direction that they had entered the field. "Go."
Isaac's panicked face softened. He darted forward and squeezed Lizzie's hand. "Thank you i-"
He nodded before he ran back the way the two came, leaving Lizzie alone in the dark field. Suddenly, when Isaac was out of sight, a male shriek came from the forest that the field backed onto. Lizzie jerked round at the unfamiliar sound that came from behind her. She chewed on her lip, debating on whether or not she should follow it.
On the one hand, someone could be in danger or needing help and Lizzie thought herself to be a first aid master after that one class she'd taken in Elementary school.
Buttt, when you hear screams at night in dark woods, you're not meant to go in. That's the sort of stuff idiots from horror movies did and they ended up dying like literally minutes later.
Lizzie was an idiot from a horror movie because her moral compass took over. She bent down and picked up Isaac's discarded beer bottle to use as some sort of weapon and ventured into the woods.
She immediately fucking regrated it. The trees that surrounded her were like looming monsters. Each one had a fictional serial killer lurking behind it, waiting to pounce. Every leaf or twig she stepped on made her flinch in terror. Brandishing her beer bottle over her shoulder, she trekked deeper into the eerie woods. She was definitely going to die.
✯☾✯
Scott McCall sat with his back against the tree, panting. He desperately tried to catch his breath after being chased by a bunch of random men. His shaggy, dark hair was stuck to his head. Sweat dripped down his naked torso.
"Who were they?" He asked the older man who stood over him.
"Hunters." Derek Hale replied. As he talked, a condensation like fog blew from his mouth due to the freezing temperature. "The kind who's been hunting us for centuries."
Rage bubbled in Scott's stomach, and he yelled. "Us? You mean you! You did this to me!"
He stood up with the support of the tree and glared at Derek. The older man rolled his eyes at the boy's arrogance and took a step closer to him. "Is it really so bad, Scott? That you can see better, hear more clearly, move faster than any human could ever hope?"
Scott still hadn't caught his breath and was breathing heavily and angrily. He shot daggers with his eyes at Derek. He hated himself for slightly agreeing with him.
"You've been given something most people would kill for." Derek paused and watched as Scott hung his head. "The bite is a gift."
"I don't want it." Scott declared through gritted teeth.
"You will." Derek shot back. "And you're gonna need me if you want to learn how to control it."
He pushed Scott into the tree he was leaning against and inched his face closer to the boy's. "So you and me Scott, we're brothers now."
A branch suddenly snapped and the two quickly turned their heads to the right. There, stood a girl Scott recognised from his English class. Her mouth hung open and she clasped an empty beer bottle to her chest. Lizzie Brown had heard and seen everything.
