chapter fifteen

What felt like days, could've been hours. There was no outside source of light to help her figure out the time of day. She was completely encompassed in the dark. Occasionally the light would flicker on, a meal being given to her by the ginger man whose name she finally learned - Rhodes. She was more than sure it was an alias or maybe even his surname. She tried to note the little details to the man, hoping to find a tic or a weakness somewhere. He greeted her with the same wicked smirk every time, a hint of desire flashing across his face as he looked her over, every time.

When her room went dark, the room across her lit up. She watched quietly as the woman cared for the baby, trying to comfort him as best as she could. The pair were given more time with the light than she was so to pass the time, she spent hours watching. Her heart ached with every passing second, the acts of motherly love weighing on her. As a child, she sent a letter to Santa every year asking for her Mom back, a woman she never got to meet. When she turned seven, Jakob broke and finally confessed Santa wasn't real, shattering her little heart forever. The first of many broken hearts the man would give her.

"Why so glum, love?" The ginger-haired man mocked her from outside the cell. The lights turned on above her, and a tray of food was left on a desk beside the bed. She stayed still on the bed, ignoring the way Rhodes eyed her. "Cheer up, girl, it won't be over soon." She shot him a flat look, his joke not hitting her. "Oh, that was good, huh?" He left chuckling to himself. She sat up straighter and crossed her legs, settling the food tray in front of her. She picked at the fries on the plate, her appetite disappearing.  She occasionally glanced at the transparent wall, no sign of any movement on the other side of it. She'd been waiting for another glimpse at the blonde woman being held like her, but other than the few minutes they gave her previously, she wasn't given another opportunity. She had a million questions and with the way the villainous blonde who kidnapped them kept smirking at the both of them, she knew wouldn't get answers to any of them.

She looked up as a new man stepped into her view, his back to her. Another one walked up and positioned himself beside the other man. They each held a gun in their hands, black clothes adorning their bodies. There was a shift in the air, something was happening that day. She pushed the tray to the side and quietly moved, her feet hanging over the side of the bed. Her hands twiddled in her lap, the light shutting off above her.

She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but having her Dad and Genie walk in with the man who'd been taunting her for fun. She abruptly stood to her feet, the chain clanking against the floor as she rushed towards the glass wall. Tears welled in her eyes as she stared at the back of their heads, her heart aching at the sight. The light flickered on in the other room, her father instantly putting a hand to the glass.

She clutched her hands to her chest, her tears falling when Rhodes smirked at her. She hated the smug look on his face, the wicked glint in his eyes. The man was taking pleasure in her pain and vulnerability. She heard a faint beep before feeling the cuff around her ankle loosen before sliding fully off of her. She stepped closer to the wall just as the light shut off in the other room. Suddenly her Dad's booming voice echoed around her, the speaker in the room vibrating with the noise.

"What the hell did you do?" Dom stepped toward Cipher, Genie putting an arm out to keep the large man from getting closer.

"Relax, Dom," Cipher smirked. "Just thought you'd like to see why soldier boy came with you." At her words, Genie dropped his nonchalant act and his features clouded with rage. Confusion danced around Dom's expression at the man's switch up. Cipher gestured with her eyes for them to look left and the men quickly got the hint. Dom's heart dropped, his face paled, and time seemed to freeze. He ignored how Genie instantly rushed to the glass, his forehead pressed against it as Izzy cried and mirrored him. Fury clouded his vision as he realized the new villain in his life had both of his children being held hostage, both of their lives out of his hands.

"How long?" He gruffly asked.

"Long enough for none of you to even notice she was missing," Cipher chuckled to herself. "In case it wasn't clear before, I own you now Dom. Fuck with my plan and your little girl gets a bullet in her head." She left the two men with Rhodes to guard them.

Dom whirled on his feet, his expression stormy as Izzy stared up at him. "I'm sorry," he grunted out.

"It's not your fault," Izzy shook her head. She gave him a teary eyed smile, hope filling her veins.

"I won't leave this plane without you." Dom was firm in his promise. He felt his shoulders start to ache as more stress was pushed upon him but he wasn't going to complain, not when his family needed saving and he was the only who could rescue them.

"Fuck, Iz, I hate that you're in there," Genie mumbled through the glass when he felt Dom step a little away from him. His gut twisted, his heart ached as he watched tears slide down Izzy's cheeks. His eyes ran all over her frame, narrowing at the undone cuff and chain on the floor by the bed behind her. "We're gonna get you out of here. I am not leaving this fucking plane without you."

"Caleb," her voice cracked as she spoke, his heart clenching at the sound. "She'll kill us before she lets us leave."

"That's not fucking happening Anisa," his tone was firm, his blue eyes dark. "Even if I have to carry you out, you are going with me." He could see the uncertainty in her eyes. "Hey, hey, look at me." When her weary brown eyes met his, he spoke as calmly as he could, trying to control the rage filling his body. When he first realized his feelings for the woman, he promised himself that he'd protect her with his life, and for years, he'd kept that promise. Now though, he was faced with the same doubt she felt but he wouldn't let her know that. "I'm here and nobody is going to keep me from you. You with me?"

"I'm with you," she muttered back, putting all her trust in him.

"That's my girl," Caleb wanted to hold her, his fingers itched to grab onto her and never let go.

"How touching and cute," Rhodes mocked them, his ginger eyedrows wiggling at them. Genie's jaw ticked when he saw the fear return to Izzy's face. "Time's up." Before Genie could even move, the light switched off above Izzy and darkness hid her from him.

"You son of a -" Genie rushed at the redheaded man, Dom grabbing him and holding him back before he could attack him. "You're fucking done!'"

"Not as long as I have your girl, I'm not," Rhodes taunted him.

"You motherfuck-"

"Enough!" Cipher interrupted them. "You all have a job to do, let's get to it."

Genie stepped up to Rhodes again, Dom right beside him to back him up if needed. "You have the upperhand now but you can bet your ass I won't hesitate to shoot you before this job is even done if anything else happens to her. Am I fucking clear?"

The ginger haired man fixed him with a steely glare and gave a curt nod.

"Can you type any faster?" Little Nobody hovered over the tech guy he'd been hammering for help.

"Maybe if you backed the fuck up and shoved a tictac down your throat, then yeah," Galaga rolled his eyes at the incessant man. "I can't think with your hot dragon breath in my ear."

"Your talking but I'm hearing nothing but bullshit," Little Nobody scoffed and walked away.

"Fucking dickhole," Galaga glared at the new man's back. When Nobody recruited him to help find the Potter, he couldn't say no. He'd been minding his own business, preparing a smaller team for a small job, but now he sat with the elite team spread around him and the world's top wanted criminals eyeing his every move carefully. Milo Clifton was in over his head.

"Galaga, anything?" Franco appeared beside him. Milo slightly flinched, not used to the man's stealth.

"Cipher's keeping every grid locked and signals bouncing from every major tower or satellite in the world. It won't be as easy as the first time."

"Aren't you supposed to be one of the best hackers in the world?" Little Nobody taunted him.

"Go bleach your roots, crayon muncher," Milo muttered to him. Little Nobody's face went red as quiet laughs echoed around him.

"I am a natural blond," the man defended himself pathetically.

"Chill your pants prom queen," Milo rolled his eyes.

"Okay, enough," Nobody found his hacker's humor amusing but they had a job to do and playground insults weren't helping anybody.

"Rules," Hobbs called to Little Nobody.

"That's not my name," Eric Reisner was reeling. Ethically, being in a room full of wanted fugitives wasn't an ideal work day for him and if it weren't for him wanting to impress his superiors majorly, he would've turned them in the second they started annoying him.

"Little Nobody," Roman threw out as a suggestion.

"Don't call me that," Eric growled.

"Oh, that's definitely sticking," Tej smirked.

"Anyways, tell your Majesty that we find Toretto as a team but that I'd be more than happy to slap his wannabe cookie-biscuit loving face."

"Wait a minute," Ramsey interrupted the feuding bald men before anything could escalate. "I think Deckard's onto something. How do you think Dom and Cipher got into the country without us knowing?" When everyone stared at her blankly, she rolled her eyes and continued. "Ghost flights."

"I thought untraceable aircraft was internet conspiracy stuff," Tej pondered.

"It's not," Mr. Nobody confirmed. "Satellites and radar grids all across the globe shift like an ocean. And they've got channels that open and close. And theoretically, if you know the right people who know the right pattern..." he trailed off and Ramsey picked up where he left off.

"You can fly right through the blind spots completely undetected."

"So you know where Dom is headed?" Letty interrupted them.

"Yeah," Deckard spoke up. "New York."

"Now how the hell did he figure that out?" Roman asked aloud, still baffled by the British man.

"Since you know where he is, can I go now?" Attention shifted to Milo.

"No. You're here to work, so work."

Milo was over it. None of them said a word as the nerdy man stood to his feet and was in Little Nobody's face, a deep scowl on his face. "Listen here prom queen. I'm here because my friend is missing and my fucking brother went rogue. I'm here because I want to be but if you're going to keep blabbing and wasting oxygen, then you can fuck off and find someone else to help you."

"'Prom queen,'" Roman chuckled. "That's the best one."

"Galaga, you can go," Nobody dismissed him, not wanting another fight to break out. Once the bespectacled man was out of the room, the older man turned to his successor with a heavy sigh and a roll of his eyes. "Fix the attitude. Now, I'll see all of you in the big apple."

As the New York skyline grew larger in front of them, Dom finally addressed the man sitting in his passenger seat. "You didn't tell me," his fingers clenched the steering wheel tightly as he sped across the bridge. "Did you know about Elena?"

"No, only about Iz," Genie swallowed harshly, biting down his rage. "Said If I told anyone they'd shoot her."

"I should've known," Dom was beating himself up internally. "Dad's are supposed to have this inkling for that stuff, right?"

"Considering you've only been an active Dad for six months, you're not doing that bad at it." Genie reassured him. "Despite all the shit that's happened, she's really happy to have you around."

"Yeah?" Dom had never felt insecure a day in his life. He knew the situation was a sensitive one and the last thing he wanted to do was fuck anything up.

"Yeah man," Genie grinned slightly. "Izzy's never been one to trust so easily but you broke down every wall she built. Just keep fighting for her."

"I'll never stop," Dom promised him.
