Since she was seventeen years old Maya had been suffering one loss after another. From her parents to friends and worse of all she lost the love of her life, an event after which she was never the same again. She didn't love, she didn't let people in, she just kept moving forward without creating any ties. It wasn't her fault, after all when your husband dies the night you marry him its bound to leave you with scars. If she didn't have her daughters, and what little remained of her friends she might've just tried to die to be with him.

But she knew that would be the greatest dishonor to his memory, so she and Alaric founded The Salvatore Boarding School. It was a way for her to help kids just like her and her friends kids who would be scared and maybe even alone in the world.

Truth be told it was one of the few joys she still felt in the world, one of the few things outside her loved ones that gave her purpose. So when someone comes to take the last shred of the memory of Stefan she can't stand by and watch it happen. She was willing to risk everything to protect the kids at her school, and so would they. And who know, maybe fighting for something bigger than herself is just what she needed to survive.

since I wanted their daughter to be 13 that means we're gonna move the events of the seasons of tvd back. So instead of the show ending in 2017 it would've ended in 2015 with Alex being born that year. Then when legacies starts in 2028 she will be 13. Hope will be born in 2011 instead of 2012 and her parents dying in 2026 when she's 15. The twins will be born in 2013 so just push back the start of tvd from 2009 three years to 2006. it's not that important but just want to make sense.

clearest way I can put it, i moved the show end year back three years and thus everything else did as well. The time period tvdu takes isn't too important to the overall story line. Like it beginning in 2006 it's not changing that much about the series overall. I just wanted you to understand the math behind how it would possible for Alexandra to be 13 in this story. I will not any questions on how. Also, this would make characters like Maya, Elena, Bonnie, Matt, Tyler, and Caroline born three years before their actual birth year. Pretty sure their born 1992-1993 so now they're born 1989-1990 so they'd be the same age they are normally that they are at the start of TVD which is Seventeen.

Matt Davis is Alaric again bc I hate him most in legacies and I will enjoy having Maya destroy him every chance she gets.
