Calum's heart was pounding in his chest. He'd never been so scared to talk on the phone with someone. Ashton felt exactly the same. He was the one who'd offered the idea, and he was absolutely terrified.

Ashton's name appeared on Calum's screen, and he squeaked in surprise, lifting the phone to his ear after quickly pressing the accept button.

"Hello?" He whispered, still just as uneasy as he was excited.

"Hi, Calum." Came Ashton's voice through the speaker, causing Calum to smile.

"Hi." Calum mumbled, giddy from this new emotion that he couldn't quite name.

"It's so nice to hear your voice, Cal."

"Y-yes. I agree."

"And I couldn't just text you this next part. Wanted to say it to you."

"What is it?"

"You're so beautiful." Ashton mumbled, a smile creeping onto his face. "I can't believe you're real."

"Can't believe I'm real?" Calum smirked. "You thought I was lying to you?"

"No." Ashton immediately corrected. "I was wary, that's all. Because it's the internet."

"I understand."

Ashton smiled, unsure of what to say next. "I-I love your voice."

"Thanks." Calum giggled, and Ashton thought he'd die right then. "I like yours too."

Ashton closed his eyes, still smiling. "Did you mean what you said about me? The picture?"

"I did."

"I loved watching you freak out." Ashton let out a chuckle. "It was adorable."

Calum pouted, though Ashton couldn't see him. "It's not my fault you look absolutely amazing."

"I believe your words were 'choke me'."

"I regret nothing."

"And you also called me daddy multiple times in multiple languages."

Calum almost yelled in frustration. "Of course I did. How mature of me."

"It's alright."

"I don't know what to say next."

Ashton didn't know what to say, either. So neither of them said anything for a while, but were comforted in knowing that the other was there if they ever did think of something to say.

Eventually, a question had been burning in Calum's mind for long enough. "Does it really bother you when I call you daddy?"

Ashton's breath caught in his throat. "No. It doesn't bother me."

"Wonderful. I will call you that from now on."

"What about papi?" Ashton smirked.

"It means the same thing. But daddy seems to have more of an effect on you. Right?"

"Um—" Ashton found no reason to lie to the boy. "Yeah. I love it when you call me that."

Calum laughed, filled with triumph. "I can't believe you just admitted to that."

"I can." He paused, then muttered, "It's scaring me..."

"What's scaring you, Ash?"

Ashton took a shaky breath. "What I'm thinking about doing."

"Oh. Um—okay."

"I'm sorry. I'm gonna go."

Calum's eyes widened. "No, wait!"

Ashton shook his head and ended the call, leaving Calum speechless and hurt.
