I've been doing soccer my whole entire life. It's been a passion since I've grown up. I put so much effort and I think i'm ready for the game on Wednesday. I play for Rosemary Academy(random school). Not to brag but I'm on the varsity team with the juniors and stuff. Just as a freshman. I think it's pretty cool. To be fair I did work super hard to get where I'm at and one day I'll be playing for college and so on.
---
CC and I were walking to the soccer field for our own little practice.
We met at the beginning of the school year because of soccer. Not a surprise. She was real good and she definitely has potential into a professional team one day.
It was a cloudy day and we didn't think much of it so we continued practicing with kicking, passing, and all that stuff.
All of a sudden, it started sprinkling then it turned into pouring rain.
We laughed and ran for cover, grabbing our belongings.
"Do you want to come over at my place? It's nearby," she suggested.
"That would actually be great," I laughed.
My parents were out of town anyways so this is a great coincidence.
We made our way to CC's house, making our best attempts to not be soaked. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
We were soaked by the time we got to her doormat. She knocked on the door, waiting for someone to open it.
Eventually, someone did. A boy about my age, I think. He had short brown hair and lots of freckles. He was really cute.
"Come on, I have some dry, hot towels up in my room," CC dragged me upstairs.
She gave me a towel and I started with my hair to my body. She handed me some of her clothes and told me she would return mine the next day.
We were just chilling on her bed, but my thoughts were consumed with her brother, which I learned after the fact. I'm pretty sure I've seen him around school. He's definitely not in any of my classes, he seems way too smart.
---
Days passed after being at CC's place. All I wanted was to talk to him, just once. I don't know his name. I don't really know anything about him. Just that he is a nerd. He gets laughed at in school and it's a bit sad but what can I do? I mean I could do stuff but is it worth it?
He also doesn't have any social media and for a teenager he really is not social with anyone or anything. I heard he's like having a Yale interview. And yes, I found out that he is in my grade and I'm not actually stupid.
I hate this feeling. It's like seeing a really fine person on a vacation trip and never seeing them again. Or at a game. Or out of the country.
---
It's the day of the big soccer game. CC was helping me calm my nerves. I'm only really nervous because they rely on me to stop the ball. I can't disappoint anyone. I can't let that happen. I love my position on the field, but it is pretty stressful.
We were warming up on the field with the coaches, doing lines and they were doing quick drills. I was warming up with our coach.
30 minutes passed and it was time.
I got into the goal box and scanned the crowd before they had blown the whistle.
I see my grandparents talking with CC's parents. I love my grandparents. They're so involved with me and I appreciate it so much.
I was surprised to see the brother in the stands. It was a good surprise feeling though. His presence ignited a spark in me.
The game started and throughout the game I played with all my heart. I tried stopping the ball with all my heart. I had so much motivation. With him in the stands, with my teammates counting on me, with my grandparents.
We were up 5-3 and we had 2 minutes before the final whistle. I knew we would win. I just know it. They haven't passed the defense line, so I was thankful.
This game determines our ranks. We would be state champions. For the first time!
I saw the timer that was about to hit 0.
whistle blew
And that was it!
We all cheered and ran to the sidelines to the rest of the team and jumping around. We won! We were super happy and some were tearing up a bit.
I gave so many hugs to everyone that I could.
After everyone had calmed down. We did a team huddle.
"Good job everyone! I'm so proud of every single one of you. This was the best season yet, I hope to see a lot of you next year," our coach had spoke.
The season was over. We won't see our senior teammates after this. I was going to cry happy tears.
We did a team picture with our achievements.
---
I made my way out the field and see my grandparents waiting for me at the bottom of the stands. I ran to them giving them a hug.
"Good job, y/n/n," my grandma kissed me on the forehead.
"You guys did wonderful," my grandpa added.
"Thank you guys! You guys are my number one supporters," I smiled at them.
"We're going to use the restroom before heading out. It's a long way back home," they told me before leaving.
"Hey," I hear a voice from behind me. I spun around and see him.
"Oh hey! CC's brother right," I said.
He nodded. "Uhm... congratulations on winning. You did amazing," he smiled.
"Thank you. I don't think I actually introduced myself but i'm y/n by the way," I told him.
"I know. Wait no I mean like I heard. You know... when they announced you guys," he laughed, "I'm Wyatt."
"Nice to meet you, Wyatt," I take my hand out to shake. He accepted.
We started talking about the game a little bit then school.
"Oh wait, aren't you going to Yale? How did the interview go," I asked.
"Oh... I mean I think Yale is just not right for me right now," he mumbled.
"There's always next time. You have a lot of high school years left to get in," I added.
"Yeah you're right," he smiled. again, making me act like a child that got a new toy on christmas day.
"Hey, my family is going out to eat tonight before going home! Do you and your family want to come as well," I asked hoping he would accept.
"I would like to but I'll have to ask first," he said.
"Okay! Well I'll wait since my grandparents are taking a bit too slow," i laughed.
He texted his parents and they said they would go since CC is complaining about being hungry.
"Great! See you then, Wyatt," I said trying to hide the excitement in my voice.
He smiled and waved before heading back to the direction of his parents.
I stared at him when he was walking back still thinking back to our just ended conversation.
"Ready to go sweetie," my grandmother called out.
I looked back at her and nodded. When we were making our way to the car, I told her everything and she just kept laughing.
