alec had known nestor since he was born. at that time he himself had been around fifteen, but different to most of his peers, alec instantly became protective over the little boy. soon after, nestor followed alec everywhere he could.

alec experienced nestor's first birthday, his first steps, his first words. the two were inseparable, despite alec being older than nestor.
nestor's dad wasn't there since he was born, so alec took over, as a brother and older family member figure, who wasn't his mum.
and then nestor's mum was killed. he had been by her side, at the airport and the then ten year old had seen, heard, experienced everything. despite later learning that it hadn't been the americans as he had thought in the moment it still left him with thanatophobia, trauma and a huge aversion to americans for knowing about the attack but not preventing it.
from that point on, alec was his only family he had left.
and he wouldn't let anyone take that from him too.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☁︎

nestor always had been the rowdy type, starting fights, not only boys his own age, mostly boys from grades above him. he wasn't scared, more so excited in a way when he challenged them, always searching for bigger opponents he could defeat.
not soon after nestor had moved in with alec and his family, they too experienced a hard hitting loss, this time it was alec's father. after that alec had the responsibility to take over his father's „business", the russian mafia.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☁︎

the first few years had been hard for him, since he still was very young compared to the other mafia members and he had to prove himself as worthy leader in many ways. but in that time nestor always had his back, supporting him in any way. alec could always count on the younger boy who, to nobodys surprise, followed soon after and joined the mafia too.
working closely with the boss, but rising though the ranks fast because of his hard work and not because he was close with alec. nestor wanted to earn everything himself, wanted to prove himself worthy the same way alec had a few years prior. and that he did.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☁︎

soon nes was known as ruthless, the man that would do the dirty work without second questioning, without batting an eyelash. he continued rising through the ranks, higher and higher.
until nes managed to become the boss's right hand man, being just 21 years old. at that point the two men were still as close as ever, probably trusting only each other. and together they had built a reputation, even beyond the borders of russia.
quite a few times they had to get each other out of risky situations, with both the men being taken quite a few times. but never for long.
in these situations nestor often was underestimated, as him just being a lowling in the mafia ranks because of his age. but that assumption they soon after would always regret.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☁︎

nestor and alec often remembered the time a few men of a lower rival gang had tried to get information out of nestor, threatening him with torture if he wouldn't give them the locations of the boss and his right hand man whe suddenly the wall got blown away and alec appeared in the hole. „i am here to get my right hand man back.", he said looking around in the room. „we don't have him, the boy wouldn't talk."
„oh you certainly do have him, he's right there. and i wouldn't call him boy, he doesn't like that.". alec answered, as calm as ever.
„that's your right hand man? the boy? that's nestor?". nestor looked at the surprised men, a smirk appearing on his lips, but alec spoke first, „oh yes it is, and i wouldn't talk more because then you're probably dead."
in that moment one of the men started laughing, „you won't kill us, we're more people than you."
„oh i won't kill you, but he might.", alec looked at nestor who now calmly threw the ropes at the ground, which the men had tried to tie him to the chair with.
soon after the men regretted taking nestor.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☁︎

through the years alec and nestor never got sick of each other. they had that knid of bond where they knew each other like they knew themselves. it was rare to find alec in the office without nestor being somewhere near, except when the now older man had to finish a job. nestor was ruthless but not cruel. he never hurt people who didn't deserve it, only concentrating on the bad.
he still used the advantage of him looking rather young and not as strong as he actually was so his opponents underestimated him and his abilities.
what can you say, they were two birds of a feather after all.
