chapter fourteen
Before my rap part begins in the shooting, I memorize the lyrics. It doesn't take long since I was always really good with learning new vocabularies.
I'm sitting on the floor as my eyes roam over the text countless of times. I sense someone sitting down next to me but I decide to ignore it to study the lyrics.
"Learned it?"
My eyes widen as I slowly look up at Yoongi, who's already gazing at me.
I nod my head while gulping.
He scratches the back of his head. "I rewrote the lyrics so that it fits your style," he states.
"Thank you," I mumble as my eyes skim down at the piece of paper again.
"So, um," he begins, "what do you think of our concept?"
"Good," I awkwardly mumble as I bite the insides of my cheek.
"Yeah," he whispers to himself while looking at his lap.
This is so uncomfortable.
"Look—" we both speak up in unison.
I cringe again, but he seems much more lighthearted than I am. "I don't want anything to be awkward between us, especially since our debut will be soon."
"Same," I agree while nodding my head.
"So, no uncomfortable tension between us anymore?" He asks.
"Yes," I smile lightly.
He suddenly holds his pinky up. "Promise?"
Chuckling at his childlike behavior, I nod my head. "Promise," I intertwine my pinky with his and he smiles, gums showing off.
"You guys are so cute!" Jimin squeals as he stands next to the cameraman, who has been filming us.
"Did you film all of it?" I panic, eyes widening
The man behind the camera nods while chuckling. "All of it."
An exhausted expression takes over my face and I hide my face behind my hands, embarrassed that this will probably be shown to the whole media.
"Chill. As if someone will look at videos of me offering you my pinky," he shrugs nonchalantly.
"You're probably right," I slowly put my hands down while nodding my head.
"Ahri, your part is next!" Someone yells and I hastily stand up.
My heartbeat's quick while making my way to the place that I'll be rapping at.
"Rap your part and try to look tough and intimidating, I will tell you when to stop," the director we've met before declares.
Nodding slowly, I can feel my whole body trembling from nervousness.
Rehearsing the lyrics in my head quickly, I nod my head again to inform him that I'm ready.
"Start!" He yells and the cameras are focused on me.
I rap my part while moving my body in sync with the beat. Forgetting that I have to breathe because of my anxious self, I stutter over my own words.
"Cut!" The director yells, "again, without stuttering this time."
Gulping harshly, a deep frown makes it's way to my face. Just do it right!
Taking in a deep breath, I try to maintain my heartbeat. Nodding tiredly, the director starts my part once again.
Stammering over the first words of my verse, the music stops almost immediately.
Scoffing loudly, I'm angry at myself for being this stupid that I can't even rap one verse.
The boys are gazing at me confusingly.
"She did so well last time, what's wrong?" Jeongguk asks his leader.
Namjoon simply shrugs his shoulders. "I don't know, Koo," he mumbles.
Yoongi and Taehyung stare at me, trying to find a solution to help me.
"I know something, hyung!" Taehyung raises his finger as he knows a perfect idea.
Taehyung takes a piece of paper that's laying around on the set and asks a staff member if they have a pen.
Fortunately, someone hands the boy a pen and he is quick to write on the old paper.
Rushing back beside Yoongi, he holds the big white paper up.
Gazing at it, a smile paints my lips immediately.
The material reads 'we believe in you, nana'.
My body relaxes as soon as I read it.
The boys are always beside me, I repeat in my head.
Exhaling deeply, I tell the director to start the music.
Shortly, the loud noise of music fills in the whole set and I start spitting the whole verse in one breath out.
Moving my body to the beat of the music, I'm soon finished with my part and the boys start clapping and cheering.
Walking up to them with a smiling face, their cheers get louder. "You did it!" Jimin puts his arm around my neck and ruffles my hair.
"Yes, thank you guys," I sincerely smile at them.
I don't know what I would do without them.
"Well, actually," Taehyung steps in front of me, "it was my idea," he proudly smirks.
Rolling my eyes in a teasing manner, I exactly know how to make his cocky self flustered.
Going up to him confidently, I take his face in my hands and give him a small kiss on his cheek.
After releasing him and taking a few steps back, he touches his cheek and looks at me in shock.
His mouth is agape and no words seem to leave his mouth, but his furious blush fills in a whole conversation.
"Just date already," Yoongi rolls his eyes.
"Don't be so jealous, they're just having fun," Jin hits the boy on his chest while smiling at us.
"I'm just joking. Sorry, Tae," I laugh while pulling him down with my arm around his neck.
He soon starts to laugh as well and we both playfully bicker with each other.
I see the camera once again and stop my actions. Looking at the cameraman, I give him a feigned disapproved look. "You won't leave me alone today, will you?" I ask him while laughing.
"Nope, I've been told to film everything," he smiles.
"Get back here now. We still need to repeat many scenes," the director informs us.
"What time is it?" I ask our leader while making my way to the set.
He pulls his arm up and looks down at his watch. "We have 7:47 p.m." He nods.
Eyes widening, I gaze at Namjoon. "What's wrong?" He asks me worriedly.
"Today's the day I'll get killed," I over-exaggeratedly whisper to him.
"What do you mean? Is everything okay?" He panics and takes a firm hold on my shoulders.
"I'll get fired," I nod my head while imaging an exasperated Jaehyun.
Damn, he'll be fighting me to death just verbally.
"Oh," he releases his hand, "I thought it was something serious."
"This is serious!" I raise my voice, panicking that I will maybe really lose my job.
"Come on, now," Namjoon is quick to change the subject.
We stand in the middle of the set and repeat our choreography constantly.
It's eleven p.m. by the time we're done. Just for today, though, since it'll go like this the next couple of days until our debut.
My whole body aches in pain as we make our way back home.
"I'm so done," Jin states as we sit in their living room.
I decided to spend a little bit more time with them before I head to sleep.
"Today was so exhausting," Jungkook mumbles, laying his head down on the couch.
Suddenly, my stomach decides to make whale noises and all heads turn towards me.
"Someone's hungry, I guess," Taehyung laughs.
"Oh, shut up. I haven't eaten in more than 12 hours and my body always needs food in its system," I mumble, frowning.
"Do you want to help me cook something, Yona?" Jin offers while tilting his head to the side.
"Yes!" I exclaim happily, making him smile.
"Let's start then," he mumbles and moves his exhausted body to the kitchen while I waddle behind him.
"What should we do?" He asks me while gazing inside the fridge.
Both of us think for a few minutes until we scream in unison, "kimchi fried rice!"
"Yes!" We exclaim while laughing happily together.
"Get the vegetables ready and I'll start cooking," he declares as he moves in front of the oven.
"Okay, hyung," I nod my head and follow his order.
Taking the kimchi and other ingredients from the fridge, I make my way over to the counter next to him.
"Do you think the pictures will come out well?" He asks me in a quiet tone.
Frowning lightly, I answer, "yeah, probably. All of us did a pretty great job and you have a handsome face, so why not."
"Really? Do you think so?" He widens his eyes, a small smile on his lips.
"Of course. You're worldwide the most handsome guy I've ever seen," I chuckle while shrugging my shoulders.
"Now I know why Taehyung likes you so much," he mumbles to himself, smirking lightly.
My pupils enlarge as soon as he finishes his sentence. "What does he say about me?" My voice gets higher.
"Nothing negative. He said that he knew you before being in Seoul and that he always really liked your kind and helping nature. While you weren't there and all of us were training together, he always talked about a girl from his hometown that he really misses," Seokjin explains while cooking, "guess that girl must be you."
I'm left stunned as I simply stare at the ground in deep thought. Did he miss me?
"Could you pass me some eggs, Ahri?" Jin rips me from my thoughts and I nod quickly.
After some time, the food is ready and the oldest member yells at everyone to come to the kitchen and eat.
"Ugh, yes, food!" Yoongi immediately sits down and impatiently puts the meal on his plate.
Sitting down next to Jimin and Hoseok, I happily put some food on my plate as well.
Gazing at my left side, I notice that Jimin isn't eating anything while the others are literally fighting for the last piece.
"Jimin," I call out and gain his attention, "don't you want to eat?"
"No, I'm not hungry," he tells me and pushes his plate away.
Staring into his eyes, I can read the insincerity right through his skull.
"Are you sure? It tastes really good!" I exclaim while looking at him carefully.
I noticed that Jimin works way harder than all of us and that he doesn't eat many times. For example, as I and him left early for practice he told me that he always comes earlier than the others.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Thank you, though," he smiles, his eyes crinkling at the ends.
Nodding slowly, I mumble, "don't mention it."
I hope that he won't overwork himself.
After finishing my meal, I let out a small yawn and stand up while stretching. "I'll sleep now, guys. Have a nice night," I smile at them one last time before starting to leave.
"I'll come in a few minutes to join, Ahri," Taehyung mumbles while eating.
"Tae, no," I turn around and refuse his offer, "I'm thankful and all, but I can't accept that. You won't get no sleep and I can't expect such generosity from you every day."
"Nana, I told you that—" he's quick to disagree, but gets cut off by Yoongi.
"I would stop, Tae. I've experienced way too many arguments with this devil right here to know that she won't agree and will argue even more," Yoongi states while eating, motioning to me with his chopsticks.
Staring at him offendedly, I reply, "I ain't no devil, hyung!"
"Sure," he chuckles deeply and continues to eat before I can argue any further.
"What if Ahri sleeps in our dorm with us?" Jimin suggests.
Jeongguk's eyes widen. "Hyung, I don't think that would be good—"
"Why not? Because you're scared of girls, international playboy?" Jimin teases the younger one.
"What? No! I'm not—" my fellow maknae disagrees, but the leader cuts him off.
"I don't think it would be appropriate if a young girl slept in a room with 7 older guys," Namjoon reasons, "no offense, Ahri."
"None taken, hyung. I agree," I nod.
"Well, I don't want Ahri sleeping alone in a room," Taehyung crosses his arms over his chest and pouts slightly.
"Agreed, Taehyung," the older boy from Daegu approves of the younger one's opinion.
Sighing loudly, I gaze at the boys who are occupied with arguing.
Having an idea in mind, I smirk to myself.
My other members don't notice me as I quietly sneak out of the room and enter my own dorm without them knowing.
Closing my front door, my exhausted body jumps into my bed, ready to rest for the few hours before the day starts once again.
